That's will power. I regularly do that for the Knicks and Devils because I put my kids to bed, but I'm only an hour or so behind and by the time I zap through the commercials and intermissions I almost catch up to real time. For the Jets it's impossible, I have to know what's going on up to the second.
Why don't you bring a small radio with headsets, listen to the game while you attend your son's basketball game? You can always watch the actual game later. I know I resented my father doing other things and not being at my baseball games growing up...
ok let me shed some light on the subject. first he has a game on saturday we are going to. second i am just an assistant coach third there are 3 coaches. forth he is 6 and in a division where they dont keep score fifth there are 14 kids on the team so we have to switch a whole group of kids every 3 minutes.play 3 minutes sit for 6 minutes.there is only 24 minutes in a game. sixth our kids are 1st graders and lots of kids have never played basketball before and we play 2nd graders who wipe the floor with our kids.
btw i have dvr'd plenty of games. one of the coaches already missed the last game and wont be at the saturday game.we play about 14-16 games
With the new information you have supplied us I think you already made up your mind to miss the game. If your wife wont be there who will be there for him? If its a relative then all is good. Have a pizza and Jets jersey waiting for him when he gets home.Ask him how his game went and then watch the NYJEYS kick the Titans asses together..................... You better hope and pray he doesnt dunk or make a 3 pointer.........
moral of the story- never coach your kids sports. actually, NOT having his dad there yelling at him to make plays would probably make it the best game of the year for him. He has to learn how to play on his own someday and Sunday sounds pretty good. If you weren't at chucky cheese to watch him run around playing games do you think he'd really give a shit?
1st grader, stay home, watch the Jets game. Not even a question. I have 4 Kids. I left the Taconic camp out (me and the two oldest boys), which cost me $$$$$, right after breakfast, to be home in time to work out and do my pregame prep.
Part of me says DVR the game. Another part of me says he's 6 and will likely not remember you missing his game.
If I was in your place, I'd go to the kids game (seriously, how long do they last anyway?) BUT I'd tape the Jets game and let the little one know that right after the game, we are going straight home. I'd also order a pizza (delivered) when I got to my car so that it would arrive about 10 minutes after we got home. If you do this, your kid will think he has the best Daddy ever and at most, all you'd miss is the first half (which you'll have on tape). Good luck and Enjoy!!! Never forget, they are only little for a very short period of time. Enjoy them while you can.
um, cant you go to the Game, and then watch the Tivo'd game after you get home? if you are tivo-less, um, go buy a blank tape and toss it in your VCR thats in the basement somewhere, set it to record and bada-bing bada-boom. All set and ready to go, you get to be a great father, and still get to watch the Jet vs. Titans game.
As painful as it is you need to honor your commitment, your Son will benefit in the long run. Tivo the game, I know it's hard but this lesson is bigger than a game. Your son is more important that this game.
well i went to my sons basketball game and they got smoked.these kids where hitting 3's.big kids too in the 2nd grade.we have 1st and kindergarten kids.had my lil guy in his stroller next to the bench and my daughter playing with her disney princess for most of the game until the 4th quarter she kept darting onto the court. got home at 3pm and my youngest son sleep till after the game was over.my son kevin and magnolia watched movies and daddy drank beer and watch the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS KICK SOME ASS
You did the right thing. Believe me because I know from experience, these years are going to be gone in a heartbeat. You will never regret (and your kids will never forget) the fact that you were a good dad and were always there for them for moral support if nothing else. With today's technology, there's no reason why you can't do both. That having been said, if the head coach schedules any BB games for SB Sunday and the Jets happen to make it to the Big One, you tell the coach you're going to kick his ass in front of the whole team!
yes....yes you are!!!!!!!! and im a great mom raising my son to be a jets fan.....my husband got to my daughter though and shes a bills fan...:bills_suck:
