A sack artist like John Abraham has not yet been found by the current regime.

After this season, I'm going to make a retrospect thread asking if people would rather have Ellis or Abraham for a long-term deal. At the time, I was in favor of Abraham. I still feel that way, though less so now.

Abraham was always the better player and Ellis is overrated. Yes, he's nice defensive end, but he can't nearly dominate like Abraham. I was one of the few here who didn't want to see him go.

abraham is a bum and he only played when he wanted to...for christs sake he sat out the divisional game in pittsburgh, and yeah i know supposedly he was injured, but come on ur quaterback is playing with a torn rotator cuff...you dont want to lock a guy like that up for a long time...and plus ellis has been a solid player throughout the years...i take ellis any day

I heard Mawae is looking for a job as a broadcaster...He wants to be sure that when he retires next yr, he'll have something to do.

Whereas Mangold is planning on going to Honiluolouloolalalila

What I never understood was the notion that Abraham couldn't fit in the 3-4. I'm positive he was a 3-4 OLB in college and played his rookie year in the 3-4.... I bet he could have been a force for us in this scheme. I like Mangold, but he hasn't proved to be worth the passrush we gave away with that trade.

He didn't want to play LB, and he's too small for DE especially in the 3-4. Personally I think if he just relented and played LB he'd be far more durable and he'd be more dominant.

This is really the first year they got anything out of Abraham actually. I don't know how long his contract is for, but I doubt they feel they got what they're paying for, and chances are he'll be up for a new contract soon.

15.5 Sacks is beastly but he'll probally play a total of 15.5 Games over the next 3 seasons...

That argument doesn't hold water anymore. He's had two seasons out of 8 where he missed signficant playing time. During the past four years he played in every game in three of them and he has 40 sacks during that period. Name me one Jet that even comes close to supplying that type of pressure.

I've been watching a lot of Falcons games, Abe has been consistently dominant. Its unfortunate he could never reach that level of consistency with the Jets because he is just the type of defensive force this team is missing. You guys could bring up Mangold all day long but a dominant pass rusher is far more valuable than a C. I do think the trade was the right move at the time though, he had just run his course with the Jets and at least we got a good player in return.
