Just beat the Phish, don't think I can take it anymore down here. The fairweather fans are out in full affect down here.....
No Champ I don't. Why? Because Herm, for all his faults, had one thing going for him. He had emotion. He had passion. He may have fck'd up many a game but at the very least, his teams had a pulse. He may not have had the team ready to play every week, but he did get the team's attention when he had to. You know I was never a Herm guy, but I like Mangini even less. I prefer originals instead of clones and Mangini, with that dumbassed, deadpan look on his face everytime I see it, just pisses me off to no end. Herm shoved the Cover-Who down our throats. Mangini shoved the 3-4 up our asses. BTW, Merry Christmas if I don't read ya before then!!!!!!!!!!!!
It seems like over the years whenever we've needed help we've gotten it, it usually comes down to what we do in the last week. The problem is we suck right now, we're one miracle play away from being in a 4-game losing streak.
Good call Seafood. There was one time I distinctly remember in 1993 when Pat Leahy missed three field goals against the Bills and the Jets lost in their 15th game of the season (16-14). Then during the the 17th week about four games had to go a certain way for the Jets to even hae a chance. Magically they all did - including a amazing comeback win by Drew Bledsoe and the Pats (who had nothing to play for) against the Dolphions. After all those games went the Jets way they proceeded to get raped by the Oilers 24-0 against the Oilers in the game where Buddy Ryan punched Kevin Glibride. Talk about disgusting.
I think Jags have a better chance than bills. Belly is NOT losing that game. Jags tried against colts. Its actually better to have jags and bills playing than (a) teams that are in but dont care (eg. giants, cards) or (b) teams that have long ago given up (e.g., rams, lions)
That Oilers game ranks up there with the worst. Oiler were good I think. Jets didnt even bother showing up.
I say fire the guy now since he serves no purpose on the sideline anyways. Make Westhoff the HC for the last game. Give notice to the players if they want to be around next season they better play like it.
Yup. In 1991 we needed San Diego to beat Miami to set up our Week 16 showdown after we lost to NE 6-3 in Week 15. Of course 2002 we needed NE to beat Miami, in 2004 Pittsburgh with nothing to play for beat Buffalo and we got in despite losing to the Rams. That carries an asterick because the Jets knew they were in as they played OT and admittedly played it differently. There have been a lot of times it's come down to the final game for us--1981, 1985, 1991, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006 on the plus side, 1993, 1997 and 2000 on the minus side.
I thought about this. In Mangini we have a coach who went 10-6, 4-12 , and possibly 10-6 this year. There are a ton a teams and fans that would sign on to something like that. We as Jets fans are conditioned to over react and lay blame at the people we feel are responsible for our misery. Is there light at the end of our tunnel? Will the Dolphins come in and put an exclamation point on our season? Will we be discussing a thread topic like "The Jets are in, but don't deserve to be here"? All will be known in due time.
Isn't it interesting how our last December collapse came pre-Herm? and isn't it interesting how our first Dec collapse since '00 comes w/ the great Brett Favre at QB?
The Herm collapses came in September, October and November. The team was generally pre-collapsed by December. 2002: 1-4 start. 2003: 0-4 start (understandable) 2004: 1-3 at the end, 5-6 after a 5-1 start. 2005: well you know... Herm was no better coach than Mangini, he just had different places that he was weak. Although in truth I am having trouble thinking about places where Mangini is not weak and nobody can argue that Herm was not a good motivator most of the time when things started to go sour.
06 was a mirage due to a week schedule. Check the games against average or better opponents, including the dreadful Cleveland game. Only that win against NE went well. Last year Mangini had another year to work with the team, mold them as he wanted to. He coached them to a miserable 4-12, leaving Chad in long enough to screw the season. This year the FO and Woody threw tons of money at the team, and they played some great games. But when in the driver's seat to make the playoffs, Mangini drove it into the ditch. That about covers it.
Exactly. The Oilers were 12-4 that year (Pro Football Reference: www.pro-football-reference.com is a great site by the way). How the Jets could look so bad with the playoffs on the line was beyond comprehension. Coslett got fired that year -> which lead to Carroll -> which lead to Kotite-> which lead to Parcells.
2002: 3/5 of the Ol was hurt, Curtis was hurt, Chad wasn't yet in yet. 2004: Chad and Abe got hurt. We never choked a season away under Herm. Have you notice we choked away '97 undre BP, '00 under groh and now '08 under mangini but it never happened under Herm?
I hope the Jets and Favre have a banner day against Miami on Sunday....... J-E-T-S Jets...Jets...Jets But then again, I have a motive.......
