There wasn't a single game we lost this year that we shouldn't have won or weren't expected to win. That translates to being undefeated at this point so yeah, 10-6 sucks.
Mangini's headcoaching record all time would be 24-24-0..but that's 6 am math. We've got a .500 coach. Great.
It seems to me like it's all about confidence. Chad seemed to start the year in the same kind of dink-n-dunk mode that he was in with the Jets. Then as the season wore on - the more Chad was successful, the more confidence he gained in throwing downfield. It certainly didn't hurt that he Jake Long protecting his blindside. Let's be honest, the Jets O-Line looked like 5 turnstiles last year! Aside from all that, I really think it did him good to break away from all the negativity that the NY fans and media are infamous for. This year, Chad looks like the QB we had back in 2002 before the pressure of high expectations started to take its toll.
I was thinking 12-4, I really was I thought Denver a loss and a sweep to end it with a possible loss to buffalo or miami and go 11-5
Nope, not gonna do it. I'm not going find new ways to excuse this coaching staff and this team for a string of losses that should never have happened. Expectations change. I expected a not-so-hot year - and then the team went out and started signing proven players to fill its holes. I expected that we would run second in the division - and then the league MVP from last year went down and was replaced by a guy who hasn't played quarterback since the Clinton administration. I expected we would limp along with a gritty, but weak-armed, quarterback - and then we got ourselves a future HOF guy to take the job. I expected that we would beat teams that we SHOULD beat. With everything aligned, why couldn't this team just go out and win? The fans, coaches, and other players voted and said that we have enough talent that I shouldn't have to sit around on Sunday and look for other teams to help us get into the playoffs. I'm not going looking for ways to excuse that. I'd rather just be pissed off about it.
In the beginning of the season I most certainly thought we would be better then 10-6. We had revamped the line and added more bulk to the defensive line. now I also realized that we needed time to jell , but thought that this team would be able to compensate with some of those growing pains to emerge victorious. The we were 8-3 and I felt those old 98 feelings , surely we could close out against the likes of Denver , who played inconsistently the whole season and got shellacked by the Raiders. Oh course we were going to destroy the toothless 49er's and come into Buffalo ready to close it out.....Um NO! How could anyone other then Lions fans think their team would suck? I had high hopes and still do ...but the tide is against us.
I figured 11 and 5 before the season but it was a total pull it out of my ass guess. I also didn't figure Brady was going down and the Pats would still be better than we are or that the Dolphins would be better than us on both sides of the ball. I figured the dolphins would be a lot better but I figured we has a 1 year window to be better than them based on the Parcells factor. What's really dissapointing is the outright fail of our D down the stretch. The fact that we have drafted an outright bust at 6 and we are likely to be fighting with the Bills for 3 or 4th place for years barring a miriacle or a new staff that can compete with Miami and NE. Favre was a shot at lightning in a bottle the lightning is gone an empty bottle remains. We may have two real good QB's on our roster? Does anyone believe that we have a staff that can develop either one of them or give this team direction and discipline?
I have to agree he is throwing the ball really well. I saw him make a few long ones this year, that I have not seen in a long time. He seems to have gotten stronger again. Don't forget he used to throw some nice long ones pre-surgery. I'll never forget Criss Carter in his blog, while Chad guttted out playing hurt, calling him the worst QB in the league and throwing likea HS QB. And yeah, at times he did, but to knock a guy playing hurt is just classless. But if the Jets want to give him sgort ones he will take them. I would rather force him to make deep throws across the field. That is his weakness, Brett can throw 20 yard outs. Penny has trouble with 10 yard outs, somehow the Fins have worked around having him make those throws.
Yes, I thought we would have 10 wins this season. If I had known the players would be good and the coaching would be good, and Tom Brady would be out for the season, I would have felt comfortable with 11 or 12. If I had known how we'd be coaching down the stretch, I would have thought 6.
I think the Jets matched up well vs the Titans at that particular time. Jenkins clogged the middle and the Titans did not exploit the the Jets with screens and dumpoffs, they tried, but it didn't work for them. I actually think our secondary is good in coverage. It's the line giving the QB enough time to do those dump offs that seem yo kill us. One thing the D has been coached well in is stripping the ball loose. That strip vs Buffalo was not luck.
Since the titans game this team has been crap and played with no heart we only won the bills game on luck. The bottom line is this team got cocky and that's on the coach. I see no reason why the jets should beat Miami after the crap we have seen over the last month.
I think we are better then 10-6 when we are 8-3 and beat the #1 in the afc. The way this team has been playing is just sad. I am sick of the west coast bs we should have been better then the 49ers and seahawks but thats not the case.
It's called an upset, you know, when the better team gets beat! Your true colors show up in a whole season, not just one or two games.
Yes at the begining of training camp 10-6 was what I was figuring. That was before a season ending injury to Brady. That was before the Jets beat both New England and the Titans back to back. The Jets were 8-3 at the turn with 4-1 a very good possibility. As usual the Jets played down to the competition and folded.
I think your point is bogus. Yeah, at the begining of the season I picked 'em to be 10-6 with a possible Wild Card spot. But expectations can legitimately change. When they beat Buffalo, New England and Tennesse on the road, they raised the bar. They were 8-3 and they had their destiny in their own hands. And then they laid 3 serious eggs against 3 beatable teams. And they should have lost to the Bills. We had a right to expect more.
