That's funny you say that, there's an unrelated article out on Newsday just this morning that says it was more or less a dead heat. Timing is everything.
This sunday I want to see resilient grass blades that are infilled with a granular filler to resemble natural turf all over Pennington's jersey.
Winston, Not bad as a post, and I don't disagree with anything you said, I just wondered why you thought it appropriate to opine whether I was going to be a pussy going forward from here. I saw no basis for that, but we've had our disagreements before. Ok. Anyway, as I said on another thread, I don't really care enough what happens going forward right now with the Jets to want anything specific to happen at this point, since there are so many uncertainties about what will happen, so many dark clouds within silver linings (make the playoffs and embarrass themselves? That kind of thing), like a win this week helps Mangini stay?!? Wow. But there is one thing I am certain about, as several here have agreed with, and fence sitting Chad Fans like Seafood refuse to acknowledge - if you are rooting for Miami to win this weekend, as some here have openly said, and I legitimately suspect others secretly agree, then You cannot call yourself a real Jet fan. This is not at all a mere matter of opinion. There are some rules. This is not Vietnam. Someone who wants to legitimately call themselves a Jet fan cannot simultaneously root for Miami to win this week and not be called on it. Sorry! And those who like Seafood are the usual suspects in that regard, who argue with me for making the foregoing point by making personal attacks (don't bother me in the least - just shows they don't have sh!t to counter my points) and failing to agree with the foregoing, in his case even playing dumb that others here have openly stated a hope for Miami to win - which is fine, they are actually helping me make my point for me - well, I think their posts say it all. And I have a pretty good idea who they want to win this weekend. And excusing it as rooting against the Pats is pretty amusing, but arguably the pussy way out. That pretty much sums it up, except that despite the cloudy and uncertain future, the one thing we have left this week is to hope the Jets beat Miami, no matter what else is going on. One last thing - one day this whole fracas about Chad will be over, and most of us, hopefully, will still be Jet fans. I respect anyone else who is a Jet fan, because I know what it is like, and whatever other differences we have, we do have that in common. So, Merry Christmas to all Jet fans here and elsewhere! I am coincidentally leaving on vacation today, so I probably won't be back here until Jan 5 or later. Have a good one!
Can somebody tell me exactly who it is that said openly they are rooting for the Dolphins? I've repeatedly said I'm rooting for the Jets, as always, and I will be there in Jets gear, as always. I don't care if you believe that or not, or what you think of me as a fan, because it doesn't matter. What's going to happen is going to happen. If Chad makes you look silly one more time this year, that has nothing to do with me. As I mentioned before, a personal friend of mine played for the Pats and Dolphins for fours each and I never rooted against the Jets even then. I don't see anyone on here who is a Jet fan that understands fully the playoff scenario and game times that has said they are rooting for Miami. One guy said it before he understood what the playoff deal was and then retracted it. Show me these people.
I went through 2 threads and found these gems. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1070685&postcount=1 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1073588&postcount=4 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1073733&postcount=34 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1074278&postcount=61 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1074585&postcount=68 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1074592&postcount=69 I know damn well you and junc would never root for the Fins, but there are definitely people on here that will be. If there are some on here I'm sure there are more elsewhere.
Hey Broadway Brett, my favorite thing about Chad was when you let go of him too, you fucked your franchise up even more, and helped the Phins....haha
As you said, me and nyjunc aren't there, so once more Big Blocker is talking out his ass. Some of those aren't really strong statements, a lot of "if that happens" scenarios, and most are within 24 hours of the Seattle loss when people aren't thinking clearly. I think it was winstonbiggs yesterday or the day before that said once the game starts you see the Jets and root for the green and white. I imagine that is the case with most people, except maybe the most die-hard Chad fans who don't remember any other QB or people who are just extremely pissed off and want Mangini gone. Even then I doubt it. If we pull the game out, end up winning some playoff games (unlikely but possible) would people still want him gone? As we play the Miami game that will remain a possibility and that would trump all else for most rational thinking Jet fans.
It's going to be a thing of beauty watching Chad end the Jets season this Sunday and winning the AFC East for the Fish, Crash and Burn Jets
I'll promise you I'm scared to death of this game Sunday, the Jets may not have played like they're capable since the Titans game, but they are still the same team the spanked the best team in the league this year. I for one wish it were over, the waiting is killing me. I think the Jets could make Miami look very bad...easily!!! If I were Jet fans I wouldn't be as worried as Dolphin fans should be.
We're still talking about a very small handful of people here, not like it's half the board or a large contingent with this sentiment. You can probably drum up this much support for a lot of wacky ideas. People on here were happy when Justin Miller returned a kickoff for a TD with Oakland, I didn't see people huffing and puffing and telling those guys to go be Raider fans. The guy was a Jet, people liked him, so what? To me it's no different with Chad except there is this group that hates him so much they have to get all pissy about it and telling you you're not a Jet fan. You can root for an individual to do well and still keep your wits as a Jet fan, it isn't really that hard to do. Guys who play fantasy do it every week.
You're right it is the minority, but it's crazy man. Maybe I am too emotionally attached to this team but seeing people that call themselves fans actually wanting the Fins to beat us because of a player really gets under my skin for some reason. Personally I don't have any problem with people rooting for a player on another team that used to be a Jet. It may aggravate me at times, but it's not a big deal. As much as I have disagreed with you guys (you, Junc, ...) on Pennington, I know you're still Jet fans first. I don't see anything inherently wrong with a Jet fan wanting a former player to do well so long as it isn't hurting the Jets in the process. I was happy to see Miller get those TD's for Oakland. I like seeing Abe succeed in Atlanta. Pennington, I was sour on him long before he left and now he's on a rival team so I don't care when he does well. I want him to fail. I'm actually concerned that there will be a lot of "Jet fans" at the Meadowlands this week rooting for Pennington and the Fins instead of the Jets because of the people I've seen on here saying they will. This is only a game, it's only entertainment and what the Jets do has no real impact on my life so I really shouldn't care so much. But I do. I care about the Jets way more than I realistically should and it pains me to see people who call themselves fans rooting for them to lose.
I don't recall any of those posters actually being "Chad Lovers" either though. Most of those posts are either made out of frustration (emotion), or some half-wit statements. As much as I would hate to see us put the Pats into the playoffs, I would despise having let the Dolphins walk over us and end up getting in. Unfortunately, this team has made its bed and is about to lie down in it. I'd like to see one more win on the year before that happens. I've always said, I could stomach being 2-14, if the two wins we had came from the Dolphins. :finssuck:
What's worse is that Chad isn't going anywhere. Whether Favre comes back for one year or not, we have to deal with Chad, Parcells and Miami in our division, along with the Pats, for a few years to come--probably as they are putting Favre's Packer bust into Canton. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving.
I try not to think about that, but it is true. I just hope there is some way Tanny can convince Favre to give us one more year. He's got it in him if he can find the "desire". Otherwise, I hope Ratliffe (sp?) is ready to step up to the big leagues.
