I didn't expect Bowens to get cut...he is decent depth that can play Outside or Inside and was ST captain.

Bowens would have made a decent back-up, but overall this is another step in the right direction.

you realize that is a rediculous statement in comparison right?

Bowens is making 2 million next year, for that versatility and being a ST captain. I wanted him to stick around. His "rediculous" number is 2 mill.

Gholstons base salary is 2.9 mill, he earns a 2.3 mill as a roster bonus come March, then next year it is estimated he will earn a bonus of between 13 and 14 million. All together, thats 19.2 million due to him in the 15 months.

Meaning Gholston is making 17.2 million dollars more than Bowens would have made. Bowens also did a hell of a lot more than gholston did for us last year, and likely will do for us this year.

So in short I don't think Bowens salary is "rediculous" Gholston's salary also shouldnt be classified as rediculous. A new term needs to be invented to adequately describe Gholston's salary.

I really wouldn't call Bowens or Kassell underachievers. Kassell was a decent special teamer and backup, but he was on IR last season. Bowens was decent filling in for David Harris and was also a good special teamer. I don't think underachiever is the right word..

I'm sorry to see Bowens go. He has been a very usefull player for the Jets & did a good job filling in for Harris when he was hurt.

The fact that I fucked up the spelling ridiculous is what you took from that? Sorry I was more focused on making my point that spelling at the time...

Yes i will admit I didnt just screw it up once, i did it quite a few times, but rather than running to my dictionary to make sure I spelled it right, i figured making my point was more important. silly me.

Well, look at the bright side. You will probably never spell it wrong again.

To me, cutting Bowens, with Barton remaining a UFA says one thing.

Bart Scott is already in the Jets locker room picking out his new locker. :)

i could swear that bowens being cut saves more than 2 mill in cap space... someone would have to check on that for me though as i feel kinda lazy right now.

kassell i have no problem with cutting. bowens was a pretty good player but easily replaceable especially with money coming off the cap even if its only 2 mill.

gholston was a high draft pick he will be paid and paid handsomely for some time to come as it is completely cap prohibitive to cut him. that is exactly why they are trying to put a rookie cap on. a high draft pick who busts can set a team back a number of years with all the money tied up in them.

its always good to spell things right, people are much more likely to pay attention to someone who knows how to spell. ill admit i go to www.m-w.com fairly often, but i like to know how to spell a word that i am not sure about. and people will always bust your balls about it.

The Jets cutting Kassell is great news. To the best of my recollection, he didn't make a single impact play for us since he started wearing green. See ya!

I knew Bowens $2,500,000 & Barrett $3,700,000 were going to get cut they were the obvious ones.

This is not a surprise. Bowens has been terribly disappointing.
