I liked this quote: Anytime you go against up Bill Belichick or Bill Parcells’ team in Miami or Buffalo
Rex is either a genius who will have us back near the top of the AFC w/in a year or 2 or he'll be a colossal failure who won't make it to year 3.
Why? ...because he cut an overpaid guard? We've released 5 players so far, and 4 of them were backups.
This theread is about his confidence not about the moves that have been made. He has been talking SB since the day he took over and how opponents should be worried about us not us worried about them. I remember a guy in Arizona doing the same thing in the mid 90s- same last name too. i hope we get different results.
Yeah, I know what you're saying here. But the thing is Rex Ryan makes a point, if the coach doesn't believe they can get to the Super Bowl, why would the players. I didn't know what to make out of his statement that he would be meeting Obama soon anyway etc., but when he explained it that he believes it and why should the players strive for the top, if the coach doesn't think it's possible, it made sense to me.
the positives is that he learned what not to do from his old man. Also, he has better personnel people around him than the awful Cardinal franchise. Doesn't mean that it can't happen here though.
The Cardinal team Buddy inherited had some talent and remember philly had incredibly talented teams and he never won a playoff game. I like Rex, I am happy we got him but he has alot to prove. All the talk is really nice but his teams have to back it up. That is why I am saying either he is a genius and his teams will back it up or he will be a colossal failure and be gone w/in 2 years.
I loved Mangini at the start and thought after listening to Herm that this guy was our coach for years to come so I am gonna keep my mouth shut this time. Who knows, sounds like he only care about defesne and is handing over the offense to Schotty so I can see in 2010 Ryan saying I need to spend more team withe offesne and I am giving so and so more responsbility for the defense.
I agree, I am not going to too amped up till I see some results. Talk is talk. The confidence part is good, but it has to be matched by results.
I'm not anointing him as anything, YET. But I have to say that I haven't been this psyched for a new coach since Parcells walked in the door. You know what, I think as Jet fans we're so used to coaching blunders that when we get a guy that certainly appears not to have any big question marks coming in that we're all confused how to feel. I'm 40, so I've seen more than a few coaching failures, but this guy, to me, is the shot in the arm this franchise desperately needed...
The thing that boggles my mind is how this guy had so many interviews, yet never got a HC job? Evertime this guy speaks you can just feel his energy and love of the game. The only thing i can think of is that his last name scares people away. I really have to give Woody a big  for having the balls to bring this guy home.
For all his macho antics, Rex seems to lack a certain intellectual prowess; an "alpha," if you will. I can't say that doesn't concern me.
^ Murrell I could make a case for that article to have its own thread... its fantastic to hear that confidence coming from the HC.... the word "mentality" was used - which is my favorite word, and its going to be the correct kind of mentality.. a football mentality.
