I'm a little miffed why there's no interest in this guy. I've watched him play & he's just as capable (if not more capable) than Kenyon Coleman. Hardly anybody has put in a bid for him -- very surprising considering he'll be only 27 in May ------ 6-6 309.
and you're miffed why? just curious why you are taking is so personally as to be angered/irritated by it... and to make this post only partially off-topic: maybe he's just asking for more money than people thinks he is worth...
He would fit in really good with this Jets defensive unit, the thing is...As a Jets fan, I'm not even trying to think about any more free agent players until we lock up my boy from FSU, Leon. I wouldnt mind going after Igor, I think he would be an upgrade over Coleman and if anything, he would make a solid backup to spell time for either Coleman OR Ellis.
I thought we would def go after him. Really surprised the other teams that are changing to 3-4 this year havent either.
I just dont understand the lack of respect that Ellis gets from alot of Jet fans around here, I just dont get it...This man plays with a motor thats 2nd to none and as a "3-4" Defensive end...He's one of the better run stuffers around. Jet fans just wont understand what Ellis brings to the table until he's gone, I know he's getting up there in age, but still...The man is an ideal 3-4 DE and it's crazy how he get no love around here.
He?s a good 34 DE, a little inconsitent holding the run (by far not one of the better runstuffers around). I?m just very high on Olshansky
Better than Ellis? Absolutely not. Better than Coleman? Sure. From what I've heard the Packers have expressed interest but otherwise theres been very little interest.
Another Igor thread. Look, this guy is a JAG. SD let him go and said don't call us. Bye. Three teams have switched to the 3-4 for 2009. No one is interested. Why do people think this guy is any good, nevermind better than Ellis, which is a fuckin joke. He is getting no interest because he isn't very good. Is that so hard to comprehend?
There aren't many 3-4 teams and fewer 3-4 DE openings and you don't pay a lot for a 3-4 DE anyway, which is why the Chargers are letting him go. If he comes to the Jets I'd be thrilled but not if they pay him like he is Richard Seymour or Ty Warren.
The Jets have very little money left to pay anybody anything..not if they still want to re-sign Washington and Mangold before '10 that is. It's probably a safe assumption to think FA is over for the Jets. Maybe something minor but that's about it.
well yeah, it is hard to comprehend being that were looking at depth on the defensive line. Instead of signing a strong, younger guy who IS a good run stuffer, we're looking at other guys who are also not so good like Hartwell to add depth to our linebacking core, which is much younger than the defensive line. Hartwell is not very good, and hes 31, but we still have interest in him. We also have interest in DL depth with Marques Douglas, who is also old and not very good. Igor and Ellis would be very good ends together, and coleman would provide considerable depth, but our defensive line is old across the board, and we have Pouha as a backup nose tackle right now. We have to address guys that fit in to our system, that are younger, on the defensive line to add depth because Ellis isn't playing like hes getting any younger...
Look... GB is going 3-4. Kampman has no home in that defense. Same thing in KC, Hali is no 3-4 DE. Both of these teams have plenty of cap $. Denver is going 3-4 as well. Igor sits by the phone and waits, after SD said "we are not interested." Good 3-4 DE's ARE hard to find. If he was that good, I have to believe he would get al least SOME interest, but he has gotten zero. I'm no expert on the guy, but I think these teams know a lot more about him than any of us do.... and no one wants the guy. You folks want to make him out to be some 3-4 DE stud, go ahead. The facts as they are now fly in the face of that evaluation. I'll go with the NFL's opinion of him, as opposed to the opinion of any of us.
No trust me, I usually agree with your arguments, in a sense , I do now. BUT, our ends are getting older, and we need some younger depth. From what I've heard, Igor wants a starting role, and a lot of money that teams don't think hes worth. But we need younger guys to step in and make an impact as well, because coleman isn't much of a game changer in my opinion, and Ellis is getting older. I am getting bothered by two things... 1) Were trying to go after all ex ravens for depth 2) The guys were looking at for depth, most people haven't heard of because there old, and not very good. Igor is a name brand guy, who has shown great potential in the past. He's extremely strong, and he's a good run stuffer. The other elements of his game, I'm unsure about, but I just want younger depth who can rotate out in to give ellis some rests because his mileage is getting high. I don't care who it is, just give me not an ex raven nor a guy over 29 and I'll be happy. Hopefully, we draft an impact end that can replace coleman and we can use coleman for some depth.
I'm not sure what bell your insisting? San Diego got rid of him to keep there center/guard, because of the salary cap. I am not going to base my judgement on a guys impact because 3 other 3-4 teams don't want him. If thats the case, there are probably other factors why teams don't want him, as far as personal already there, cap room, etc... I'm not sure you don't really know what teams Igor is talking to, and who he isn't, but the guy was a starting end and had some good seasons with the chargers. Thats fine if you don't want him, but he would fit in with our system, and he would give us younger and much better depth than the guys on our roster, that can't really be disputed.
As someone who lives in San Diego and watches every Charger game, I have to say that I agree he's a very solid player. He's probably the most underrated player on their entire roster (I'm not saying he's great, just that he's a very solid player who gets zero recognition at the national level). However, the issue here is whether or not Coleman and Ellis need to be replaced and whether or not replacing either one of them with with a 27 year old who is going to demand more money over a longer period of time is necessary or worth it. From listening to Mike T on WFAN a couple of days ago, the Jets seem very happy with Coleman's production. Clearly, he'd the guy to replace since Ellis is clearly a better player than him. Based on what Tanny said, I don't see the Jets replacing either Coleman or Ellis for next year. I do, however, think they will almost definately draft a young DE or two for depth and/or the future.
