-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New York Jets agree to terms with Ravens DE Marques Douglas by Dave Hutchinson/The Star-Ledger Friday March 13, 2009, 8:57 PM The Jets have agreed to terms with defensive end Marques Douglas, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations. That person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the club hasn't announced the deal. Details of the contract were not immediately available. Douglas, a ninth-year pro, is the third ex-Baltimore Raven to join new Jets coach Rex Ryan, the Ravens' former defensive coordinator. Linebacker Bart Scott and safety Jim Leonhard are the others. The Jets are still hoping to land Ravens unrestricted free agent cornerback Corey Ivy. Douglas, 6-foot-2, 292 pounds, provides depth along the defensive line. Last season, he had 36 tackles in 16 games with Baltimore as a key reserve - his third stint with the club. He has also played with the Buccaneers, Saints, and 49ers, and had been a starter for five consecutive seasons before last year.
Really nothing to dislike. He's signed for depth and is familar with Rex Ryan's system. The guy is a steady, unspectacular player that can fill a role. He' not going to break the bank and I know he's a high character guy that can help develop younger players.
makes sense from a depth standpoint...but were signing a bunch of ex-ravens that are old and won't really do anything to contribute if coleman or ellis get hurt.
Mind expanding on why not, or are you just acting like a brainless negative jerk for no reason? We needed D line depth and signed some. My god god i hate when we do that!
Good pick up from a depth stand point and now we have someone thats played in the system at every level of the defense. Douglas on the line, Scott at LB, and Leonhard in the secondary. Could be a big help in the teaching process of the scheme.
I like it, we are now getting some much needed depth at the end positions, still looking for the backup NT, here we come Ron Brace
I expect the flood of D players to continue into the draft. CB in the first, then MAYBE a WR or RB. Ryan wants to have the highest scoring defense the NFL has ever seen... and I say that only half jokingly.
Unless Vontae Davis falls to us, there is no way we draft a cornerback in the first. Even if he does fall to us, I think it's unlikely. We just dropped a fifth and possibly a second next year for Sheppard. Power running back. Nothing compliments a stout defense like a grind-it-out offense. Beanie.
Right now, it's all about setting up the system - we have an ex-Raven playing with each unit of our defense: line, linebackers, and secondary. Smart moves by the front office.
Good signing. (I'm looking foward to all of the wisecracks over the fact that we are signing yet another Raven)
