Werd. This whole "It's TC" excuse doesn't fly with me. Live action is much harder. What will the excuse be then?
It seems to me there are a number of Jet fans into the hype of the Sanchez signing who, for understandable reasons, want the Sanchez era to start yesterday. Then there are some with a risidual negative view of Clemens going back to the debates about Chad, meaning Chad Fans. Some are members of both camps. Me, I just want to see the best player at Qb, and secondarily I hope that the Jets get something out of their high second round pick used for Clemens. I have some concerns about turning this team over to a rookie who has only started 16 college games. You don't want to make too much of it, but there is some substance to the idea Sanchez could be adversely affected by a horrible experience, what people call being thrown to the wolves. Now if Sanchez were smoking the ball and way outplaying Clemens, that would be one thing. But that does not seem to be what has happened so far. Why then the repetitive posts dissing Clemens? Nobody here really knows that Clemens cannot play Qb in the NFL. If that truly were the case, then why is he playing somewhere near even with our high priced rookie? I guess that is all by way of saying I cannot relate to the POV that the Jets should just start Sanchez and to hell with Clemens.
Yeah other people were throwing Rhodes out there..not intended for you directly. But here's the thing, if they're playing equally as good (or bad haha) there's no point in throwing away 4-6 games to let Kellen feel like he wasn't slighted. We clearly know he isn't the future. Not to mention, if they are playing at an equal level, that only says that KC can't beat out a guy with 16 collegiate starts or 2) Sanchez is just so good he's getting better, faster than KC ever did or will.
This week's excuse will be that Mangold and Woody were out..just like the '07 excuse was the OL (even though Pennington played behind the exact same line and played at least twice as good). There is always an excuse for Clemens.
i take Training Camp with a grain of salt. theres alot of players that look either amazing, or shitty, in practice. and when game time comes. theyre a different player im not even remotely trying to make excuses for clemens. but the scenario could easily play out that, Sanchez gets crowned starter. fans get a boner. and Sanchez looks like a total deer in the headlights. i want to remind people this is an actual possibility before they go and get their bottles of Sanchez dick polish. and trust me MB that's not even remotely aimed at you im just using this as a platform to address the overall attitude im seeing around here. but to argue your point, we literally don't legitimately know what we have in either of them so letting Clemens play wouldnt be throwing him out there for the sake of it. in that case i could argue the same about Sanchez. either way one of em will play and people will bitch, this is the Jets afterall. lol
two things - a shutdown corner makes everybody else's job easier. The safety can lean on the weak side and make it tougher for the Quaterback to get his reads. Thus give the d-line a few milliseconds more to get involved. - The majority of games come down to line play but it is not an absolute. some games come down to a corning shuting down a reciever and limiting what the QB can do. A few years back NE used a jam at the line to shut down Harrison and Manning was left to his second and 3rd options.
I gotta agree with this... if they are on par, you have to go with the future now. We have a solid OL now, and a good running game. There is no reason to really think he's going to be thrown into that hot of a fire in the end. I believe the best guy should play, but in the event of a tie, Sanchez starts. That is how the Steelers brought along Big Ben in his first season. He rode a big OL and heavy running game. They expected him to take care of the ball and not win anything on his arm. No reason why we can't do the same with Sanchez.
I'm not buying into any hype. I reject hype by very nature. I do know one thing: KC has done 0 to impress in 4 years. All I hear are excuses from people about the line, and no fair shot against Chad, and Favre. If the CS had any confidence in him, there wouldn't be a Qb competition right now. He'd be the starter. These guys know who they have, and they're not sold on him.
I just laugh when people try to write off Clemens' mistakes to "Oh, he's practicing against a Rex Ryan defense...let see what he can do in a real game" 1) Sanchez has been getting reps against the same defense... 2) Clemens has been in this system for 4 year now 3) It's not just the defense....obviously Clemens is making the wrong reads....and he does have a penchant for overthrowing & underthrowing receivers. The goal for the starting quarterback from the get-go this season....was to limit mistakes and manage the game effectively. I really didn't give a rats ass if it was Clemens or Sanchez that stepped up....but as long as SOMEBODY does. At this point....it sounds like Sanchez is go-to guy, IMO.
Not to mention that in the offseason everyone was saying how Clemens was their man... I remember a conversation with Schotty that went that way.. then what did they do in the draft? Pick up Sanchez. There really isn't much in the way of confidence for Clemens in Jet camp. He makes a nice backup so far.
Absolutely. And no matter how long Sanchez sits he's still going to have a rough start, just like every other starting NFL QB. So why prolong it? What does he stand to learn from Kellen Clemens? What not to do is a great lesson, but by all accounts this kid has a good head on his shoulders, and he'll figure out what not to do after he does it himself. He's going to make the mistakes anyway..so get it over with now.
Our D knows our O better than any other Defensive team. Our starting O has moved Cotchery to the other side and doesn't have an experienced starter on the other side. I'm not saying it's predictable or not. I'm not a big believer in the concept that you beat teams with scheme. Generally good teams win because they have the match up advantages and can execute, they aren't winning consistently by fooling the opposition. To me scheme should be about your players ability not trying to fool the opposition. The best coaches have both philosophy and flexability to put their players in position to excel regardless of scheme or predictability. TC should be about getting down the execution. From all reports our D has been ahead since day one. There is no doubt our D has the stronger players to begin with especially when you look at our secondary vs our WR group. It could be Kellen sucks? It could be Shotty is completely over matched going against Rex? It could be we have much better defensive skill players than offensive skill players? It could be the O isn't executing well yet because working as a unit offensively tends to be more complex than working as a unit Defensively? I don't really know, I don't think you do either.
Haha right. KC is our guy until we get to the draft and send a handful of guys and picks away to get someone that's going to compete against him in camp. That's a HUGE thumbs up for Kellen. haha
Perhaps, but don't you think having access to what your own D is doing is going to help you make better decisions with the football? It's a pretty simple answer, i think. There's no mystery, trust me.
Over the last generation there are 3 pro bowl CB's who have played on a Super Bowl winning team: Deion Sanders with SF in 1994, Todd Lyght (freak occurrence) with StL in 1999 and Ty Law with New England in 2001 and 2003. It's just not that important a contribution to a team. Pro Bowl QB's happen every other year. Pro Bowl safeties happen much more often than CB's. Pro Bowl offensive and defensive lineman and linebackers happen all the time. Pro Bowl CB's just aren't that valuable. Teams that have them and win Super Bowls often let them go within a season or two, because they weren't a key to winning the Super Bowl and nothing makes that more apparent than actually going out and winning the trophy and then sitting back and figuring out how you got there so you can try to do it again. All of the Pro Bowl CB's that have been on Super Bowl winning teams since the late 80's have been let go by their team within a season or two, some of them in the prime of their career - like Ty Law. Without Ty Law we wouldn't even be having the discussion.
wow, I would have assumed many more. I always thought that the shutdown corner was too expensive to keep but your right if they were worth keeping they would figure out how to pay them. I wonder why Sports writers seem to put a huge emphasis on them and their importance.
Am I the only one to support giving the reigns to the offense this year to Clemens? Looks that way to me...
I have nothing against clemens. I wouldn't care if it was Ainge on the field getting us wins. I just want our starter the person that can take this team to a new level.
