Seeing Sanchez go for it will be pretty cool, also looking forward to seeing how the defense operates especially with the plethora of injuries.
There are few things I am going to look for. - I want to see Gholston show us something. I dont care if he gets a sack tomorrow. If he does, great. I just want to see his progression and a good motor and ability to be around the ball. - I want to see someone step up as a WR that isn't named Cotchery. We need a legit #2 on this team, and im not sure we have that guy currently on our roster. Clowney seems to love the spotlight, maybe he can thrive in the preseason again. (woo-hoo) - I want to see the transformation of a Rex Ryan defense. I want to see swagger, and I want to see some hits. I want to see Bart Scott barking at someone and putting them on their ass. - I want to see Dwight Lowery and Lito Sheppard battle it out so good that Ryan has a problem on who he should be starting. I think Lowery can and will be good enough to be the respected corner opposite of Revis, and I want to see that he's ready to step up. - I want to, but fully expect to see Sanchez make Clemens look like a 2nd string QB.
I'd like to see the backups that some of us think they can be 10 productive starters to at least show up and prove that they belong on this team and they can step up if someone gets injured. I want to see this Westerman kid do something that equates to the praise he's been getting. i expect preseason to be preseason and see vanilla defenses and nothing complex or interesting until the real games begin... i have patience.
As a fan my #1 goal is alwasy to see the Jets come out of every preseason game HEALTHY. This is just to tune these guys up to get them ready for real games so there's not alot we can take out of these games good or bad. All I want out of Sanchez is to see a guy that looks like a QB, that he has command of the huddle and the offense. He will not be going out there w/ a full playbook so mentally he should be fine it will just be the nerves of playing an NFL game for the first time. I want to see Gholston, he doesn't need 3 sacks I just want to see him. Last year he was invisible when he was ont he field, I just want to notice him w/o looking for him. Again, as long as we are healthy I'll be happy regardless what happens on the field.
Someone please refresh my memory. Who was the tall, white receiver from about 5 years ago, whom Herm raved about day in and day out, "he's catching everything" etc etc? When it came time to the 4 preseason games I think that he dropped nearly everything that was thrown his way- the guy was so damm scared about being hit when he had possession... Anyone, anyone, Bueller?
Yes, I figured that someone would remember the 6'5" of "suck" in a football uniform, thanks. As to what I'm looking for: 1) Seeing just how good out OL depth really is. Having 3/5 of the line in against a starting D for a few series' will certainly help. 2) TE- can anyone else besides Keller catch the ball? Who is the best blocker in the bunch besides a OL we used extensively in 2TE sets last year? 3) WR- After Cotchery it's really a mixed bag. How good is Stuckey? Was Clowney a one-game wonder? Will Wright be able to bring his ST prowess and use it in a full-time WR role? 4) DE-LB- Obviously to see how our new additions will perform but also to get a better idea about guys like Westerman, Murrell- 2 players whom I really hope make the squad. 5) DL- With Jenkins out, who can step up their game besides Pouha, who hasn't proven anything since he arrived. 6) Who sucks on this team? Someone has to suck! Ryan will have you believe that everyone on this team is 100% bringing their "A" game but there must be one player who will entice us to throw the proverbial shoe at the television set. Who is it?
Aside from what I am always looking for on Friday night - poonanny - I am also looking for... a) Performance of the depth O-linemen with the 1s. b) Significant improvement in Kellen Clemens' mechanics over 2007. c) What kind of pocket presence and escapability Sanchez has when the pocket inevitably collapses. d) How Sanchez retains his composure after bad throws/sacks. e) If Shonn Greene is able to shed tackles at this level the way he did it at the college level. f) If there is a single decent blocking TE on the roster. g) How well Jehuu Caulcrick steps in for T-Rich. h) What our pass rush looks like when Calvin Pace is not on the field - particularly #50. i) How well out defense can disguise coverages this early in the offseason. j) If Jimmy Leonhard is half the player as a starter he was as a depth player for the Ravens. k) If Lito Sheppard is half the player he was in 2006. l) How terrible our D-line depth is.
I'm looking at a glimpse of the defensive schemes, but not expecting to see much of it. I want to see how these guys are tackling; I don't want to see missed tackles Shonne Greene How Clemens and Sanchez handle pressure with 3 line starters missing There's a lot of things I want to see, that probably won't show up tonight. I'm not expecting these guys to pull out their crazy blitzing schemes, but I'm sure we'll see some things we haven't seen.
1. The "New" Defense-Will it become Von Ryan's Express? 2. Vern-Still the Ghost or what.. 3. Qb play-Mark, Kell or Erik. Hopefully there's one NFL caliber QB between them. 4. WR play-Can anybody get seperation? 5. Will the team show some "tude". Finally, will someone please fire the designer of the Flight Crew's unis? They really, REALLY, suck..
This, and.. Dustin Keller's improved blocking...and the emergence of a #2 TE. Shonn Greene being a beast. Hopefully our 2nd string DL and OL does well.
In addition to what's already been posted (Clements-Sanchez, Ghost, etc.) I'm hoping to get an extended look at Ainge even against the 2nd half scrubs.
Same as the others, but I'm actually interested in the punter battle and the battle for #3 QB. I definitely don't want to see anyone get injured.
