STREAK WILL NOT INFLUENCE HIM, FAVRE SAYS byESPN.com's Kevin Seifert

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Brett Favre insists he won't let his durability streak hurt the Vikings.

Favre will make his 270th straight start when Minnesota plays at Cleveland on Sunday. That will match what the NFL considers the longest streak in history, held by former Vikings defensive lineman Jim Marshall from 1961-79.

Favre said Wednesday he "absolutely" would sit out this season if he's not healthy enough to suit up as Minnesota's quarterback. The 39-year-old also said he "may not" be able to play in all 16 regular-season games.

Favre said he was willing to sit last year with the New York Jets, and that he shared his concerns at the time with his coaches. His poor performance in December was due in part to his injured right arm.

Naaaaaaay, said the dead horse - I know.

WEll really this leads to one of two assumptions:

Favre told the coaches but they had so little confidence in Clemens that they had him keep playing.

Favre did not tell the coachs, but wants to put the blame in Mangini's court to save face to the public. Knowing Mangini is widely disliked it will work perfectly.

Either way, there is little doubt the dropoff in QB play was a huge part of our late season collapse.

That's pretty damning against Mangini if it's true.

Not when his only other option was Kellen Clemens... you remember the guy, right? He was the "the guy" before we went into the draft and then got made a bitch by a rookie coming out despite having 4 years experience in the offensive system.

I think Mangini was not told by Favre...Favre cares about his streak, so he just kept his mouth shut. Mangini wouldnt have sat around and sent in a qb who would cost him games.

Unless, mangini was really a big vagina when it came to making decisions like this

I do not believe Favre here. No way at all he voluntarily ends his consecutive games streak, literally no way. Pure bullshit.

I have a few problems with that.

    1) They had a fantastic running attack and passed the ball far too often in the final 5 weeks of the season.

    2) If the all-time NFL iron man is telling you he probably shouldn't play, you might want to think about putting someone else in. I don't care if he sucks, he would have had to have tried to have played worse than Favre in the last 5 weeks.

    3) He had a hand in drafting and developing Clemens.

I think at that point they didn't really have all that much faith in the guy... He doesn't beat out Pennington - twice... and then they ditch Pennington to bring in Favre. Of course, I don't believe Favre either. It's never gonna be clear what really happened but history in the NFL is filled with all-star, or HoF athletes playing hurt. Sometimes it ends up coming off like the Cinderella story, and other times we end up crying in our beers "why, why, why??".

Sure Favre could be lying. He could also be telling the truth, and this could be part of the reason for Mangini's quick firing after the season ended.

It will be interesting to see if Mangini has anything to say about this.

We'll never know if this is true or not, considering Mangini was the coach. I'm still trying to figure out which knee Jonathan Vilma hurt.

He won't.. he'll avoid it until confronted and then dance around it if it ever comes up. It would be interesting to hear though.

Or 3) he did tell Mangini. Tannenbaum and Johnson found out after the season was over and that is why he was fired.

Proof that no one REALLLY cares about Favre or Mangini....
The Favre vs. Mangini game on Sunday isn't getting as much media hype as I thought it would, as far as juicy off-the-field stories are concerned. I mean, Favre's performance did indeed get Mangini fired, in essence. Maybe Mangini was given an ultimatum about Favre's possible return in 10 and he refused to be forced into it again - so Woody fired him? Now with Favre seemingly throwing Mangini under the bus here, there's another story.
It's all about the stories! And conspiracy theories!

I'm still pulling for the Vikings in this game, only because of the NFC/AFC potential playoff implications - I don't care if we have the same record as Minn after 16 games. If it was an inter-conference game, I think I'd be pulling for Mangini just because he takes on the David role in the David vs. Goliath story here...albeit a doughier version of David.

"FUKK YEAH!" That was great when the Jets were 8-3 for five minutes. Is Brett Favre ever going to shut up or stop crying? Which is gonna come first? I'm getting really sick of this act. I always liked Favre and the wise-ass look on his face, but please, just stop it now.

When he came to the Jets, all I did was laugh. In a good way - for the obvious reasons. Then we had to sit through the Green Bay wave (chunks rising) and the injury excuse mongering when the Jets choked. Oakland, I could have won that harbinger of doom with my ass. One of those west coast games - just ONE - and we're not even having this conversation. And we've all been there and done that sentiment. I'm done with this guy. Really done.

    A couple of reactions:
    (1) If it is true, it is an incredible indictment of Mangini and Schottenheimer. Even if they thought Clemens was unplayable, the playcalling at the end of the season was exactly the opposite of what should have happened if they knew Favre was hurt.
    (2) If it is not true, and Mangini still just says "I'm moving on, blah blah blah" he deserves all of the ridicule that could be heaped on him. Any normal human being at this point would call Favre out for lying if this is not true.

If forced to choose, I would vote for Favre lying, since the alternative is that the Jets coaching staff was mind-bogglingly moronic, and was doing everything they could to get fired.
