Cotchery is going to benefit the most, because he will see the single coverage he saw with Coles lined up across from him for the past 3 years. The better news is that Edwards is better than Coles. Cotchery's numbers will be very high this year regardless of Edwards' presence. Geez, you think the rookie has one bad game and they go and get him a big WR?? Spoiled fuckin kids.
You hit the nail on the head. Expect Cochery to blow up big time. Can't believe there is an actual Jets fan with common sense out there.
The whole offense is going to benefit from this. He's a true deep threat and should push everyone back and make it easier to make plays underneath. And as I type this, I realize this is exactly what RaiderJoe was saying about DHB. I'm slightly less confident about the trade now...
Cannot agree more. I only see Cotchery getting better with someone who can draw double coverages on the other side. Although, if Edwards can remember how to play football like he did 2 years ago, Cotchery may no longer be the best WR in the city!
Oh I agree 100%. But I was among the posters telling Joe he was dumb for saying DHB isn't going to help when he's just running downfield dropping passes and now am convincing myself that Braylon will improve his focus and do a better job catching the ball and will open it up for other players. Green glasses at it's best I suppose.
Badger said it and i'll add on to it. DHB is unproven and should run track. Edwards has a track record of being elite when he devotes himself completely to football.
I disagree. Cotchery is helped a lot, but so is everyone else, and I think it helps Keller most. Who does this trade help most offensively? It's hard to tell. Edwards's mere presence could open up running lanes. If he makes a few big plays, defenses will stop putting safeties on Dustin Keller, freeing him up to go against linebackers more often. Jerricho Cotchery will stop facing #1 cornerbacks and be the possession receiver he was born to be. He's a fantastic compliment to Edwards. And, of course, it helps Mark Sanchez. He now has a big, tall, athletic receiver who can make plays on 3rd downs and in the redzone. Edwards's issues with drops and effort have been well-documented, but few players needed a change of scenery more. However, one thing he hasn't really been known for is whining for the ball. Sure, if he doesn't get thrown to, he won't be happy, but he's not Terrell Owens in that sense. And if he is, the Jets will just win on defense, and they may try and get something back for Edwards, who is a restricted free agent after the year. www.jetsdaily.com
every player on the offense benefits from this move. all of a sudden jones should have a bit of room to run. leon should have some room to make plays in the flats. cotchery should have room to make some plays. the most important thing is that sanchez should be seeing guys more open than he has the first few weeks.
well said. I really can't disagree with that. But I have a feeling Cotch will still be a security blanket for Sanchez while Edwards is the big play in waiting... and those two have to get their chemistry going too. when its time to play the Patriots again, I think Sancho-Edwards will be at a decent level by then.
too bad we still got the great god-king Sean Smith who can just shut down Edwards for the entire game by himself.
I completely agree with this. With Edwards being a legit deep threat and requires the double team this will free up Cotchery in the middle and Dustin Keller. Cotchery this season his proven to be a capable #1 guy but if Braylon shows the dedication and form of the 07 season Cotchery and Edwards both have the abilty to have 1000 yard seasons while Keller works the middle for 700ish. This will not only take 8 men out of the box this will give Sanchez another legit option to throw to
Vontae has the instincts and physical tools to recover in a split second. Now Will Allen I give you that one, hes older and slower now but even if Vontae makes a mistake he can recover and bat the ball down VERY quickly. Let's face it, your Saintchez is not that good yet.
