What a fantastic win this one is! We imposed our will on the Raiders, running for over 300 yards for the second week in a row. The defense, especially Calvin Pace, played lights out. The team played great from top to bottom. One area of concern is Sanchez's refusal to handle the ball properly. I have to think the coaching staff has been working with him, so that means he just isn't listening. He is WAY too careless with the football. The coaches absolutely need to get him to handle the ball better. I know he's a rookie, and that he will improve in this as time goes on, but I still have playoff hopes for this team, and his poor handling of the football will cost this team in a tight football games, such as the upcoming showdown with the Dolphins, which I expect to come down to the wire. Now, with that out of the way, on to the good. The OL is absolutely DOMINATING right now. As Deirdorf said yesterday, it gets easier when the OL is moving the line of scrimmage 2-3 yards down the field. The loss of Washington certainly hurts, but Greene looks like he can run the rock just fine, so I don't believe that we're really going to suffer in the running game (KO returns are a different story). The defense? Can't ask for much more than a shutout. Revis is indeed the best CB in the league. His pick in the endzone was just awesome. It actually makes me wonder if he could run routes, if he has hands like that. The best thing I saw yesterday, however, was 3 young guys stepping up. Clowney finally showed he can play in a non-August month. Wallace Wright made a couple nice catches. Finally, Shonne Greene looked freaking GREAT. These three can make life much easier for the rookie QB if they can play like this every week, but they have to show they can do it agaisnt non-Raider teams. Now, as much as I'm loving the win, I know that it was just against the Raiders, who are as dysfunctional as a team can possibly be. Next week things get a lot tougher, with a Miami team that imposed it's will against us, at least offensively. I hope Rex has been thinking about stopping the Wildcat nonsense.
Hopefully the Raiders game builds everyone's confidence and makes the Jets a better team. However, I still can't get past Sanchez's play and I didn't see it improving this week. Keep in mind, I'm not a Sanchez hater - I say start him all season no matter what and never pull him. In time, he could be great. Right now, he's pretty shitty. Often inacurrate. His deep ball to Clowney was ugly. Didn't make any particularly stupid passes but against the Raiders any pass can look genius. I think he's going to have a very tough time again next week against the Dolphins.
My gut tells me this game told us more about the Raiders than the Jets. A win is a win but I wouldn't take anything away from this game other than Green stayed on the field for more than 3 carries.
He played great against the Phins Monday night, our defense lost that game, not Sanchez. That pass to Clowney was perfect, I hope it was designed to be underneath though.
I took a couple things from yesterday! 1. The raiders are real bad 2. Sanchez is developing, I liked the stepped back game plan because he needs a couple of good games to get his confidenece back. 3. Shonn Greene has heart and can play! Good call trading up to get him in the 3rd round because with the injury to LW we need him! 4. Cudos to the O-Line, when they play like that we are a good team!
most QBs have that problem for the entire rookie year. It gets the proper attention the following offseason. I think he'll be ok. He looked fine yesterday. I still hate the shovel pass call. Divisional games are always completely different from the other 10 games played during the season. the crowd needs to be at the Pats level next week, and i hope Ryan asks for it again through the papers and the rest of the media because its going to be a tough game.
Those are actually two of the worst run defenses in the league. The Raiders are 30th in the league and the Bills are 32nd.
Good thing is that we've found our running game again. Perhaps even a hydra headed formation with Smith, Jones and Greene. The bad thing is we might have just become a victim of our own success as we've probably just put 8-9 guys back in the box against us on offense. Great win yesterday but we didn't exactly shut the run down with our 3-4 or 4-3 formations. Its gonna be another great game next week in the Meadowlands and with the addition of Greene, its another facet that the Phish will have to gameplan for. I'd love to see how good Greene can catch out in the flat. Get him in space, let him get some speed up and we might have something really special..
I agree, looks like the offensive line is finally playing like they're supposed to. You can tell they took the criticism to heart and put a fire under their ass.
its tough to have that many in the box with Braylon outside and if teams are paying attention to Clowney it'll make things even more difficult for a defense to truly stack up on the run. this team can have a balanced offense. Its actually surprising.
Why is that funny? Sanchez didn't throw 5 Interceptions this week. In fact they only let him throw the ball about 15 times the entire game.
Yup 9 out of 15 aint bad. Td throw and a Rushing TD, I'll take that every week. I think my favorite pass of his yesterday was when he was under pressure and just threw the ball away. I was seriously clapping and thinking, Nice Throw.
The Jets ran all day long and I loved every minute of it. And they humiliated Russell and forced Crazy Al to bench his fatbody 1st round QB and put Gradkowski (or whatever his name is) into the game. It's days like this that I wish raiderjoe was a real person.
^ they were both at the bottom of the list prior to playing us. I know the Bills were 32nd before playing us, not sure where the Raiders were but I know they were towards the bottom.
