Alright, so I've been reading through the fallout of last weeks game and I have to say, some of you guys are taking this season as if we've got the best coach in the NFL and we were "supposed" to go all the way this season. You see, I'm from a younger generation of Jets fans. I know a lot of the old timers around here grew up hating the Dolphins for the 80's and 90's, but I grew up in an era where the Pats dominated us, every year, with the occasional close win over them on a injury prone week. I've had to endure close wild card losses, a 4-12 season, and watch the Pats win three Super Bowls. This series against the Pats means a lot to me as a Jets fan, even more so than the one against the Phins, or the Bills. I will be praying to all things Joe Namath that we can please sweep the Pats this year. If we end up with a 9-7 record, and a sweep over the Patriots, I'll be more than a happy camper. A lot of people don't realize that John Harbaugh, Sean Peyton, and Mike Smith were all anomolies. Taking your team to the playoffs in your first year is a HUGE accomplishment. One that should not be expected from every rookie head coach, just as Joe Flacco, and Matt Ryan were anomolies. The same applies to coaches. I know I'll probably get bashed here, but I haven't made a thread in awhile, and I was bored.
I will if we sweep the Patriots this season, because I'll be crying like a baby. I don't even remember the last time we've done that. Not since I've been a fan.
It would be nice to sweep the Patsies, and if we do, I don't see us going 9-7, that's a stretch. We do play better in games within our division, however, after seeing how the Patsies played last week, and the way we played last 6 games, I think we lucked out back in September.
Kaiser, I see your point homey and I can understand why you would be excited with Ryan still. You bring up Harbaugh, Smith and Peyton as guys who were rare in winning in their first years and I agree with you 100%. My personal problem is that I've been around a little bit longer than you as I started watching this team in 1981. I remember Buddy Ryan. I remember Steve Spurrier, Mike Martz (as you prolly do), and I remember Chuck Knox. I'm quicker to put Ryan in these guys catagory based on his actions and coaching style. Not based on it being his 1st year or 5th year. You see all of these guys were more concerned with their specialty, then they were winning. They were only concerned with one part of the teams game. They carried an overconfidence about them and what they did. That is why I think there is such a disconnect with the fanbase right now.
I wouldn't call it luck. I'd say it was an under-prepared Patriots team, which is rare for the Pats. I think Ryan spent his entire three months leading up to the season preparing for that game. I wouldn't call 9-7 a stretch considering the Colts game is almost a given loss, barring any huge injuries or problems for them in the future. That means we'd have the room for one more loss against sub-par teams.
the patriots offense becomes pretty ordinary when randy moss is not a factor. we happen to have the ability to make him a non factor so you won't be seeing what you saw against the colts secondary. the pats defense still does not look any better than the one that made sanchez look like a seasoned vet his second time out. of course this is going to be a tough game and i think the potential for a blow out loss is much higher than a blow out win, but this team has had the opportunity to win every game this season and i don't see why sunday is going to be any different.
ummmm didn't mangina and herm take us to the play-offs their first year?so actually given past history as a trrend maybe it's best we don't make it this year.
i think breaking that streak is a good thing considering the last two coaches were/are terrible and they will both be out of football once Mangini gets fired.
i agree the younger fans have the hatred for the pats like the older guys despise the phins, i pray to god we sweep those bastards it would def. be a bright spot to a dissmal season so far.
The saddest part to this season for me is the teams we lost to. I mean Miamix2,Buffalox2 and Jacksonville? We had the Saints beat also, even after the rook spotting them 14 points! WE HAD ALL THESE GAMES WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So now we have Jets fans coming up with excuses for why the Pats lost to us the first time around? Can our team get a little credit for playing like monsters in that game? The Colts game is almost a given loss? When things go south they sure go south fast...
No he didn't,plus welker wouldn't have dropped that ball right before half-time like edelman did either, edelman should have brought that to the 3 yard-line(or even a td) but instead, since it was a 3rd down pass, had to settle for a fg. plus brady will not be as off/rusty like he was in week 2,he's in a groove and wont throw sailing passes for missed td's like he did to galloway and edelman(a dif edelman play than the one i described above) now you gotta deal with welker AND edelman in the slot, good luck.... pats win big/easy imo,the jets look like they lost hope and interest in football because of their qb and coach,i cant see how they can respect a crying grown man as a leader,it comes off as soft and terrified, and the other just wants to eat hotdogs during games and be a smartazz.
