Didn't really know wether to post this in the draft section or the NFL... anyways... almost everyone is certain the Jaguars will be drafting Tebow for economical reasons but does it make sense?

Garrard will probably finish the season with about 3'500 yds and around 15 TDs (consider how much they like to run the ball) and has an 85 QB rating with >60% completion rate.

Why draft another QB? With a good DB (they could be in a position to draft Haden) and a good WR they will be a pretty strong team.

On the other hand... if they do indeed draft Tebow where do you think Garrard will end up? I think he has proven he can be a starter in this league...

Everyone is certain they will draft Tebow? I have never heard this. Everyone is a lot of people by the way.

That Tebow will get drafted by the Jags?

I'm a bit of a draft junkie and this is the prediction many analysts are making... in part for the money, in part because of the attention Tebow could bring to Jacksonville.

Never heard any mention of it. Doesn't make much sense to me. They can win with Garrard, and with Del Rio perhaps gone at the end of the year, the team will be in upheaval. I would guess if they fail to make the playoffs there will be alot of changes in Jacksonville.

I heard Peter King say that he talked to someone close to the Jags who said if he's available when they pick they are taking Tebow. Of course it was Peter King so who the fuck knows. Hell...why wouldnt we trust him...he was always right on point with the Favre stuff. (sarcasim)

its been the buzz in Florida for over a yr now. The Jags have problems filling seats and Tebow is not only from FL, but UF is close enough that theyd have no problems selling out their stadium.

itd be a business move to keep a team thats almost a year or two from being shipped off to LA

I've heard quite a few people predict Tebow to the Jags for reasons mentioned.

It's not an indictment of Garrard. Garrard is a good quarterback, one many franchises in the NFL would be happy to have. But Jacksonville needs to start turning a profit. I feel like Jacksonville has been a very sound franchise for a while now. But nobody is running out the door for a brand new Eugene Monroe jersey. Nobody is buying a ticket to see Eben Britton in action. Tebow puts jerseys on backs and asses in seats, regardless of whether or not it's a good football move.

    And to support the Op...

Yeah, Garrard is a solid QB. He's a threat to run and pass and does a pretty good job of not making mistakes. He's not top tier obviously, but he's in that second tier of QBs I think. The Jags would be dumb to try to do anything to push him out the door. It could get a lot worse than Garrard, trust me.

FYI, I think Tebow's also from around Jax, too.

Jags are in a strange situation where the team's successful but the finances are out of whack, though it looks like the stadium was packed last night. I can't think of any other NFL team that's ever had this type of problem and it is unfortunate, particularly for Gerrard, who's done a decent job down there and signed a big money deal last offseason.

This is the essence of the problem - if they're going to move from Jacksonville they would be insane to take Tebow, but if they want to stay this might be the only way the finances could work. It really depends on how much ownership cares about staying in north Florida.

See that is what I was thinking, he just renewed. But reading everyone's posts I guess it is a no win here. If things are so bad that you sacrifice the team in terms of not filling gaps only to sign the local boy then maybe it is time to move.

If you ahve never heard it mentioned, your not reading any draft sites or watching much TV on NFL network. It comes up constantly.

The Jags need people in the seats. They have one of the worst ticket sales in the NFL. Tebow is a superstart in florida. Many think the Jags will draft him far ahead of his grade to get the fan base pumped up to buy tickets. Its a very common theory.

Yeah like others have already said, it would be a business move to attract people into the seats for home games. I live in Miami and that has been the buzz for over a year or so.

Do you believe everything you hear? The sites that are saying this are just saying this due to the fact that everyone knows the Jags will be out of JAx in the near future and they feel Tebow can save them. It doesn't make sense. No one can save the Jags in Jax. Some of these sites also have Locker going number 1 and he's not even entering the draft.

That is going around, since he's a big draw in Florida now they know Tebow is a great role model and all that Jazz.

It was discussed of him playing QB/h-back/TE, kind of like Slash.

So they wouldn't necessarily get rid of Garrard.

I've heard this too but I wonder if even this will save them.

Someone with a good memory help me out, a few years back we signed a CB from Jax...what was his name? Anyway, in an interview he said he didn't care for Jax because the only time the crowd really got fired up was when they played Sweet Home Alabama. Seriously, anyone remember that?

    Sounds like pretty shitty fans.

I agree with all these thoughts actually. It makes sense for them to draft Tebow. The seats would literaly be filled. Plus, he might be an okay QB. They will pick around 18 prolly. He should be there.
