Last night the media seemed to keep asking questions about the "Same Old Jets" stuff and if this team and this win puts an end to that " We are bound to fail mentality". Maybe I'm alone on this but I felt that the Jets put an end to that stuff back when they hired Parcells? I know he didn't get to a Superbowl but from that 1998 Jets team till now, I always thought the Jets had some good teams and they always competed? I know there have been some tough losses, the 04 playoff game @ the Steelers for one, but overall the Jets have been to the playoffs 5 times this decade as compared to just twice in the 1990's 91 & 98.. I think Parcells gave the Jets a winning attitude and it's been here ever since...He changed the uni which I think helped a lot, gave the team the look of a winner, even under Al Grogh, Herm & Mangini the Jets have put together some good seasons, I don't think people look at the Jets as a loosing franchise anymore, not since like 1996?? Rex has done a great job, I'm not taking anything away from him, but for me, Same Old Jets has been dead a long time now....
The Jets have come a looong way from the Kotite era. We are consistent and light years ahead of teams like the Lions, Rams, Bills, Bucs and Raiders right now. We should be comfortable with our status right now.
Ghosts are a hard thing to kill. Especially ones that have been around as long as ours. Parcells put a stake thru their ethereal hearts, but last year resurrected it. This year, the Gremlins have already packed their bags after the Atlanta debacle and are long gone. If we lose, it won't be because we fucked it up. It will be because we lost to a better team..
That's what I'm saying, us Jets fans had it worse then any teams fans in football for a long long time, I haven't felt like that in years...I think the Jets try harder then most teams to put a winner on the field every season, they just have to hit that stride that will carry the team to a championship!!! Maybe this is that year?
After getting Parcells: 1999: the Jets were Super Bowl favorites. Vinny goes down. SOJ. 2000: the Jets were (9-4) and lost the last 3 games to miss the playoffs. SOJ. 2004: Doug Brien's 2 missed kicks. SOJ. 2008: From (8-3) to out of the playoffs. SOJ. I guess thats SOJ. I don't really like the phrase.
Any time we lose a game the SOJ crowd on here comes out in droves, like no other team ever loses. Until we win a Super Bowl they will never shut up, either. In reality, Parcells did change the culture, Rex is now the third straight coach to come here and take us to the playoffs in his first year.
I see what your saying but go back to the late 80's & most of the 90's & the Jets are not even being looked at as a Superbowl pic like the 1999 team was before Vinny. The 2000 Jets were actually good enough to be 9-4 has compared to the 3-13, 1-15, 7-9, 8-8, 4-12, garbage seasons I was always used to. 2004, I still hate Doug Brien, but that Jets team hung and should have beat the Steelers who won the Superbowl a year later, just being in that game is something to be proud of, the Jets could have been sitting home for the playoffs in 04. 2008, again, least the team was good enough to be 8-3, Favre's breakdown sucked, but least the team was competative.
When I think of SOJ I think it has less to do with the number of W and L. And more to do with the fact that they give us hope, and somethingbto believe in, then find so many different ways to rip our heart out through our chest. But hey maybe this year will be different. Go JETS!!!!
in 1999, pre-season super bowl favorites rarely win. So fuck that. That was bad luck. the rest are good examples. 2004 is a good example of the horrendous coaches that have graced the sidelines for the Jets. You don't take a knee, that's retarded. The Jets have been victims of a team with talent destroyed by bad coaching for most of their history.
