Trade Kellen let Ainge backup. Honestly Ainge looked twice as good as Clemens did in preseason. How the fuck is Kellen going to mentor Sanchez.
I think he stays until a better option presents itself. Clemens was a disappointment in terms of being "the" guy, but now the bar for him is lowered. All he has to be is a servicable backup who knows the offense and personnel, which he is. If someone better comes along that's great, if not we keep Clemens in that role. I doubt anyone is going to offer him a chance to start or starter's money, so it's the Jets hand to play.
I like Garcia as a QB, but it seems he doesn't embrace the role as a backup too well. He wants to play come hell or high water. I don't blame him. I think he'd be a good guy to pick up as soon as you need him, not before.
If we keep the O-line together and bring in maybe Rickey Henderson to teach Sanchez how to slide, we hopefully won't have to worry about it.
The Ravens would be pretty stupid to let Troy Smith go (Is he a RFA or UFA). He looked pretty good in the limited action he saw and would have been the opening day starter last year if he doesn't get sick in the preseason. As far as Clemens goes I doubt we will ever be able to get anything for him. After drafting Ainge and trading for O'Connell the fact that Clemens is still here tells me that nobody is willing to give up anything for him.
Thanks brotha lol your right with the face that he is cheap and a servicable back up but i think we dont see him as that, we see him as just some piece of shit because he was supposed to be "the" guy. but i would be open for trading him for like a 5th, which wont happen since we only got a 4th for rhodes who was a starter. and not to many teams out there. rams signed a.j. and will probably draft bradford and redskins wil most likely draft clauson. maybe panthers? who knows
Okay, just back away slowly from the vicodin and you'll be okay in a few hours and we can try this again
It doesn't matter how we see him or that he had a chance to be the #1 and never got it. What matters now is if we unload him just for the sake of unloading him, then we don't have a QB on our roster with any NFL experience at all behind Sanchez, who just finished his rookie year. So until we find someone who fills that role Clemens will be here. He's not an ex-starter takling up huge money, he's the back-up, has pretty much always been the back-up and is paid accordingly. So if he stays there he stays there, it's not the end of the world.
based on what i remember hearing out of camp during the qb battle last season clemens seems to have a very good mental grasp on the offensive system. he is probably a good guy to watch film with and he probably understands the x's and o's pretty well. he isn't good enough mentally to do all that stuff on the field which is why he will never be a starter, but that doesn't mean he is worthless.
Looks like our old buddy Mangini is shopping Brady Quinn and looking to pick up another QB as well. What bountiful gift could we get for Clemens, a 2nd rounder perhaps?
holmgren is making those decisions now and he already brought in one of his guys to be a backup/possible starter.
