interesting fact from 2009 i saw on espn, and my numbers may be slightly off, but not by much.

here is the percentage of players that saw at least one game in 2009 round by round:

1st round picks: 20+% saw at least one game

UDFA: 17+% saw at least one game

    2nd round pics: 15%

    3rd: 10%

    4th: 7%

    5th: 5%

    6th: 3%

    7th: 1%

only 1st round draft picks had a higher percentage of players that saw at least one game than UDFA.

    i'm not making this up.

What does it mean by saw a game? Like played in one? If so, I call bullshit. Theres no way 80% of the 1st rounders only played in 1 or 2 seasons.

I think he means, the percentage of players in each round that start a game in the year they are drafted.

I saw this the other night and the numbers are slightly off. ESPN was saying that after the second round, you have a higher percentage of UFDA's starting a game over a 3rd to 6th rounder.

I think they are using it as a percentage of players in the league that are starters..... 20%+ of the leagues starters are 1st rounders followed by 17% of the leagues starters are UDFA etc. etc. so on and so forth ...... I do not think he means only 20%+ 1st rounders come into the league and actually start........

This is why Tanny has been so effective in the draft. Quality over quantity. Get 3-4 blue chip guys that you know will contribute and take your chances with UDFAs.

It makes for a boring draft but I kinda like rooting for the underdog UDFAs in camp.

the point of the espn highlight was that UDFA are important and fall somewhere between 1st and 2nd round pics. The percentage thing i 'think' is the percentage of players in each group that started at least one game last season. UDFA had a higher percentage than everyone except 1st round picks.

    Maybe tanny's onto something
