Don't know if it's more of an affirmation of him or a damnation of the offensive line.

Ok, hold on just ONE minute here...

How many sacks does he have now???? Any? Are we really going to count ALMOSTS!!?? I guess that is maybe Rex's way of coaching him up, or giving him positive reinforcement?

You can't sack your own quarterback in practice lol. Rex didn't say "almost" sacks, he said "would be" sacks.

I've heard this shit before...like last year, when Rex said he was gonna turn Veronica into Terrel Suggs.

He's just trying to boost his trade value from totally fucking useless to fucking useless.

No one wants Gholston or his contract and no one would trade for him no matter what Rex says. Rex isn't an idiot so clearly that isn't the plan.

I was being facetious...I and everyone else on this board knows Gholston is worthless.

Guy will be an average 3-4 run stop DE. Will never be a pass rush DE/OLB as he does not have the quickness.

Wow do you even watch our team play? or are you just that ignorant? He's 260 pounds and quickness/strength per pound are his biggest assets, what he lacks is football instincts and "bloodthirst"... not raw physical ability. He is certainly "quick" enough to be a pass rusher.

Oh dear. Please don't insult me , there is no need. if you disagree fine but act older than a 5 year old.

Gholston has no off the snap quickness nor the instincts to be a pass rusher.
His one talent is to actually hold his position and prevent the OG/C from getting to the inside or outside blitzer which is the scheme Ryan uses. His weight is not so much of an issue as he is naturally strong ( Ryans words not mine). If he bulks up to 270 he can be serviceable.

Guy is not quick, if he is Jay Cutler must be Usain Bolt for how he ran away from him last year!

I thought we all agreed that Rex is simply gassing up Gholston's confidence in an last ditch effort to get some ROI. Unless The Ghost lives down his moniker, its probably curtains for his Jets' career and we'll wind up with alot of dead money because of Mangenious.

He has fast timed speed but he is not in any way "quick".

Good try but you just made yourself sound like an asshole.

We don't know which guys he split, could have been two UDFAs.

I don't think Rex should be saying so much right now....let Vernon have a great preseason game first, against starters. Let him do something noticeable in a regular season game, but don't sing his praises in freakin' May workouts....all Vernon's gonna think is that what he is doing right now is going to cut it in real games, but it's not even close to the same.

I apologize for coming off as a dick before. I had a rough night and I'm still yet to sleep... That was an uncharacteristically brash post for me, and you didn't deserve that.

On the football side of it, I took your use of the word quickness too literally.
His bull rush and straight line speed are good for his size, but yes he lacks the instincts to track guys down in pursuit, for the most part I actually agree with your point of view.

and for the record Jay Cutler isn't terribly slow.

I don't think your opinion of what Ryan should or should not be saying when it comes to "coaching" and/or trying to motivate/rehabilitate The Ghost is based on any of qualifications, insights or football experience that is even remotely comparable to Ryan's. Why would you, even for a thoughtless moment, think you know "more" or "better" than Rex when it comes to how to best coach VG toward a respectable level of play?
