Both Revis and Tanny are being assholes. Revis is right that Woody's got a lot of money, but he's wrong to expect to be paid higher than Aso. What these guys don't understand is that the economy is still bad, but Woody thinks he can overcharge us for tickets and Revis thinks he deserves 15+ million a year. It seems like these guys are dictating their market worth instead of the fans. This kind of greed will be the collapse of the NFL. If there's a lockout next year and the economy is still bad, expect pro football's popularity to plummet. Serves them right.
This is what worries me, the Jets ARE getting a reputation for this kind of thing, it's not the first time we've heard that the Jets promised a player one thing and didn't deliver. Plus the Leon thing only makes the players more worried about their own situations. You can be a skank if you have the Patriots' record of success and just decide anyone's replaceable and treat everyone like crap but when you're the Jets you really can't do this. Especially the whole breaking your word part of it. Could you imagine what an en masse holdout of Revis, Mangold and Harris would do? Fact is people can call these players greedy or whatnot, they're playing in the NFL, with non-guaranteed contracts and no assurance they'll even be paid beyond 2011 with the labor situation. I don't get on any NFL player for getting what he can get unless he's just totally out of touch with reality (like say Braylon expecting a new deal  )
too many times now. its almost as if this occurs EVERY YEAR with tannenbaum. and the lies and deceit and the playing of the fans against guys...
The PSLs aren't selling, so they have to cut costs somehow. I'm not trying to be a dick, but fans need to put their money where their mouths are and stop bitching.
It's not worth reading into this too much right now. 1- He hasn't missed any mandatory practices. 2- "His Friends" are as reliable a source as the Easter Bunny. 3- Tanny will not let the best defensive player in the league walk. Also, for anyone who heard Revis on Sirius NFL radio, he didn't sound like he was trying to break the bank. He actually sounded very reasonable on the matter, and realized he wasn't the only player on the team that needed to get paid. At this point, much ado about nothing.
Hate to break it to you but EVERY YEAR, EVERY TEAM has contract negotiations, EVERY YEAR, EVERY NEWSPAPER will have a columnist use unnamed sources blowing things out of proportion and EVERY YEAR, EVERY FAN BASE will have someone that claims the front office lied to the player. You act as if the front office is trying to pit the fans against the players when in reality it is usually the reporter stirring things up and sometimes the player. Rarely does the management go to the reporter saying, "We offered him this much but he is being ridiculous". In the other situations I am sure you are referring to it was the player who went to the press and said the team told him he was going to be renegotiated after the season. As usual when you get one side of the story you have no idea what actually transpired. I am not being an apologist for the front office but too much on these boards we hear, "Just pay him" or "You have the money Woody" and accusations of Tannenbaum lying when in fact he is just doing his job which is being a tough negotiator which has helped put The Jets where they are right now. If Tannenbaum did what many posts on the board suggests he should do the team would have be in cap hell and be nowhere near where they are now.
what about the guys we did pay? Rhodes? Coles? Ellis? Moore? Don't just ignore those contracts we reworked so it fits your argument that the Jets refuse to pay people....
I think Revis ends up with liek 12.5 to 13 mil a year. but i dont expect anything to be done for a couple months. if he gets extremely difficult, id use the buyback option and make him realize CB's simply dont get contracts like he expects unless a senile mouth breather is running the show. worst case scenario if he really draws this out and demands 15mil + a year you trade his ass after this year for 2 1sts. then when people liek woody and possibly ellis come off the books you keep mangold, brick, harris and 2 1sts. pretty good worst case scenario to me. and I say that as an absolute last resort, that being said Rex Ryan has had great defenses with CB's half as good as Revis. but like I said i think its a 12.5 to 13 mil a year type deal. we'll see. but its someone looking for top dollar at their position, these contracts are never quick and painless.
And Cotchery, Bryan Thomas, Pennington (going farther back) The guys we didn't give the big contracts to, like Baker, Kendall, Leon were all either not very good or easily replaced role players. There is no way Revis won't be a Jet going forward. Just not happening.
i dont recall hearing so many guys having the same complaints about a fo over a 3 or 4 year period as i do with the jets right now. no the fo should never ever ever listen to the fans. that is suicide as we the fans think with our hearts more than our brains. however it would be nice to hear about how professional the fo is every once in awhile rather than that they lied to me and told me this and that. first time no biggie who cares if it happened. the guys a malcontent. second time you raise your eyebrow. third time you have to start wondering if this is standard operation procedure. 4th time and you have to start really wondering wtf kind of negotiation process is going on. like i have said before i would rather lose the right way than win being a douche.
I don't understand the promise. If Tanny just said "we'll take care of you" than he really didn't lie. He offered Revis an extension, it was Revis' decision to not sign it.
I'm trying to think who besides Revis is considered without question and by far the best at his position. I would immediately say Polomalu...but he got hurt. You would think Peyton Manning...but now Drew Brees enters into that one. For a while you could say Adrian Peterson...but he dropped off the board. Brandon Marshall?........Andre Johnson. You go through the league and for every guy there is another guy. Ware maybe as a pass rusher? Maybe. For that reason, this deal will get done. Each side is trying to get or save a few million. Nothing to see here.
This is sound logic...if you're the one who is actually doing anything. If they put a team out there that wins a Super Bowl, then I really don't care how they do it.
You're witnessing the media make a story out of a contract negotiation. There's nothing wrong with negotiating a contract and it doesn't make Tannenbaum or Revis a douche. c'mon man.
Player wants the most. Organization wants to pay the least. Nothing out of the ordinary as far as i can see.
Selective memory. Since the malcontents are loud and media-savvy, fans forget about the quiet signings. You can spin twenty stories out of "Chris Baker upset over contract." You can only spin one out of "Kerry Rhodes signs generous contract extension with a year left on his rookie deal." And we also never hear this story... "Friends of Mike Tannenbaum say the general manager is upset that Kerry Rhodes has been half-assing his job two years after signing a very generous extension. People close to the story say Tannenbaum feels "betrayed" by Kerry's half-assed worksmanship." Anyway, the common thread here isn't "the Jets are liars," the common thread is greedy little agents. Leon has Keels, and most of us know what a slimy little shit he is. Chris Baker? Feinsod and Schwartz. Pete Kendall? Feinsod and Schwartz. Darrelle Revis? Feinsod and Schwartz. So apparently, when we deal with players with decent agents, we quietly sign players to pleasant contract extensions. When we deal with Schwartz & Feinsod, we start lying. Whatever.
Do we know who Harris, Mangold, and D'Brick's agents are? Hoping its neither of the aforementioned ones.
