I didn't think this was worthy of a new thread because it's laughable, but I got it from an NFL news aggregator I follow in Twitter. Apparently, according to KC Joyner, Revis' value is...DWIGHT LOWERY?! Admittedly, I don't have an ESPN Insider account to look at his rationale, but drivel like this doesn't exactly inspire me to get one.
Nobody else is going to pay him $16 million a year at this point. I'm guessing everything cools down and he gets some money moved forward in the contract so he doesn't have to play for a million this season. There is no way he sits out that Monday night game at the start of the season. That's prime time exposure and he'll want to be there. I guess it's possible that he and the Jets will work out a 5 year 60 million dollar deal but the ball is going to be in his court to make that happen. There's just no way it makes sense for the Jets to pay him along the lines of the Aso contract, at least not until it's clear that's the going rate for top cornerbacks. The Jets need to see an open market deal to establish that value and all of the recent ones say it's 10 million a year not 16.
i dont think hes gone but i do think this thing is gonna drag out and get uglier before it gets nice.
I agree with this completely. The one thing Tannenbaum has not been able to avoid in his tenure so far is nasty contract negotiations. That was partly on Mangini, but looking at how things have been handled this offseason I think it's pretty clear it was partly on Tannenbaum as well. I hope the two parties both realize that they're kind of stuck with each other for the next season or two and at least make an effort to keep things from totally degenerating. Right now Revis has no leverage at all and so he is acting out hard in the PR war to try to get some. If the Jets are smart they'll just relax and not add to that at all. I'd let Revis agent know that I thought I had made a mistake opening negotiations at this point and that I had no plans to revisit the deal this season. Put the ball in their court and have them come back with a proposal to open negotiations and see what happens.

Completely agree with this. I mean, there's 30 other GMs besides Tanny who think the Aso contract is totally retarded. If he thinks he'll get that, he's crazy. This will get ugly with all sorts of threats, but I agree, there's no way he misses monday night. He'll get a huge deal, but he'll have to live with being the 2nd highest paid corner. Maybe he can get a longer deal and get more money over a longer period. At the end of the day, what's more important: being AMONG the highest paid at your position and being on a winning team or being THE highest paid on a team that's totally cash strapped because of you?
