Yup, I'm concerned about the offense. First is the O line. They are making no holes for Greene between the tackles. Woody has played pretty poorly in pass protection. DuCasse is so raw, he won't even be good depth this year unless something clicks, and soon. Next is Sanchez. Came way too close for comfort early, nearly throwing a pik 6. Then he has Tomlinson underneath on the INT, but threw into double coverage instead. He definitely should have made the safe toss to LT there, and settled for the FG if LT couln't wriggle free. Sanchez can engineer a drive, but then he makes isolated bad decisions. Ill advised throws. He looks real good, and washes it down the tubes with a big mistake. That has to stop. Until this offense can start scoring 20 points a game, we can't afford turnovers. It's one thing to throw some INT's on a high scoring offense, but one that struggles to get points just can't have so many INT's and near INT's. Sometimes he looks like an NFL QB, a good one, then has brains farts. Brunell scares the shit out of me. So do our 2's on the O line. Side note, I sure hope the reffing gets better in the regular season. There was NO way Cromartie should have drawn his second PI penalty. Awful call on that fumble recovery too. Cromartie isn't a sure tackler, but he manages to bring ball runners down most of the time. I hope Pace can get back by week 2. Pouha is more than JAP. Two blocked passes. His smarts and technique are light years better. Even when he doesn't generate pressure, he gets his hands up. So, don't go off. I know it's preseason, but this was the third one. I expected a better performance. Not time to panic, but if we want the division, some players are going to have to play better: The O line in both run and pass blocking, especially Woody. Sanchez. We will not survive another 20 INT season, unless he throws for 35 TD's. That aint gonna happen. Lastly... depth. This team cannot afford injuries on either side of the ball. The 2's and 3's have not played well at all. Especailly the DB's.
I thought Sanchez was in the film room and studying the playbook during the offseason.....I know this is the preseason....but what the fuck?! you're right T-Bird...no need to sound the alarm yet....but i'd like to see something positive.
Sorry, I guess this can be merged in the "The game was..." thread. Shitty thread title, but whatever.
All Sanchez needs to do is be Trent-Dilferesque. Once Revis get signed this Defense is a Juggernaut. Sure we got gashed a few times but thats just rust getting knocked off, overall our run defense was superb and the pass defense was solid considering we dont have Revis, if anything this gives Cro and Wilson more work which is a good thing. I'm not panicing at all yet.
I'm not going to panic until that fuckn' shit happens during a game. My God the offense looked like shit. I mean, what the fuck was that? Can we complete some god damn passes? WTF is up with Sanchez?
Right now, it looks like more of the same as last year. Great defense assuming Revis comes back. Even if he doesn't come back, it should be very good. And the running game won't miss a beat. In fact, it could be better, as Greene is better than Jones, and LT is a very good compliment to him. However, we're much more vulnerable to injury than we were last year at that position. However, the passing game is a concern. Sanchez needs to start to show improvement. It's only preseason, but being charismatic can only go so far, you gotta produce. I know he's inexperienced, but he's all we got, and the rest of the team is Super Bowl caliber, no doubt about it. But if our quarterback isn't good again, the rest of the team needs to be exceptional to make up for it. We saw last year how a one-dimensional team offensively with a great defense does. Now, if Revis comes back and Taylor can provide a pass rush boost, maybe they can be the '85 Bears or '00 Ravens. Is it likely? No, but if Cromartie keeps playing the way he has, and Revis plays like he did last year, nobody will be able to throw on us. Sanchez's play really affects our margin of error though.
Agreed, except for the running game. Greene had no holes at all to run through tonight. Our rush offense between the tackles has not been impressive so far, and it's not on Greene, it's on the O line. Woody is doing his Fanecca impression in pass blocking so far. If the O line has taken a step back, we need two steps forward by Sanchez.
I represent the panic in Jet fandom SOJF..... so TBJ here is my contribution to your thread (I haven't seen the game yet). BTW the most troubling thing about this game by far is Pace's injury. As for Sanchez......... Again, without seeing this particular game.... I think it is reasonable to say Sanchez is going to struggle a bunch this year. I said this prior to training camp. It really is unreasonable to expect him to go from absolutely horrible into superstar. Yes he studied and made progress knowing protections, defenses and all the little nuances he was too overwhelmed to even contemplate last year. Still it is going to take at least 1/2 a season to see real improvement as he takes what he learned and applies it to the speed of the game. His head is still swimming, just wait till he tries to get used to all the crazy blitz packages in a real game. I hate to say it, he might be light years better than he was last year and still stink up the joint. I think the Jets are going to be a run happy team the 1st half and gradually go to a more balanced team as Sanchez can apply his "schooling". It is too bad with this fanbase and the insane expectations he can not grow into the job more.... a think a lot more patience is going to help our sanity.
You said you hadn't seen the game yet. Insane expectations? That he might look as good as some other young QB's at this point like Henne and Flacco? I didn't say better, I said as good, comparable. I can live with mistakes. All QB's make them. What I want to see is the kid make a play once in a while. He's sticking to short, "safe" throws and still making the same old mistakes. Throwing into double coverage. Bad decisions. This isn't just the Skins game, he did the same thing against CAR. How about the first throw pick against the Giants? This is now a trend. It has to stop. I want to see progress. Improvement. I don't see it. I see the same rookie QB making the same mistakes. Those are not insane expectations. They are quite reasonable. It's still the preseason, so I'm not in panic mode, but worried? You bet yer ass. We CANNOT afford another 20 INT season. He has to be better than that.
I am curious why do you take a general post personal? I didn't call you out, shit it wasn't even directed at you........ except now, for not even bothering to understand what I wrote but whatever. Yeah I hadn't seen the game, so what? It really doesn't take a genius to see the stat sheet and read the game notes, to somewhat determine what happened. I will watch the game later today. Yes, this fanbase (not TBJ ) has silly expectations for him.
Overall the chemistry with the WR's seems all over the place. Its worrying and only way we will all know who is right and wrong in this is after games 1 and 2 agaianst 2 good defenses.
At this point id be happy if Sanchez can have a 1:1 td/int ratio and 3k + yards. But to be fair hes coming off a surgery and it could take him a while to get a feel for the speed of the game again. All I really care about is how well he will perform in January and February though. I have no issue with his regular season looking like last year as long as his post season also does. I got a good feeling the color code system could be coming back though
I had a face of "who farted" all game, because they did stink. But as everyone has said, its preseason. The running game looks fine to me. Greene kept his feet churning, and LT is going to kick ass this year. He will pull off a C Mart at 31, but he won't amass the same yardage. Sanchez didn't start well, but he went 8 of his last 10 and a TD. He responded well, and for a young QB, I want to see him respond well to early struggles. Thank god this defense is damn good, because teams can't seem to score TDs, only FGs. That'll keep the ball in Sanchez's hands, which should turn into simple drives racking up points. Pick up Folk in your fantasy leagues if you have not already done so. Revis needs to return for you to be able to go get something to eat until the offense comes back on the field, because the Jets defense will make games boring I have a feeling this team can just turn it on, because the talent on this team tells me when they have a gameplan, they'll be flying to the ball on both sides. Ducasse needs to really work on everything. I've never seen a OLmen so lost. On one play he turned the wrong way and almost got Sanchez killed. I know he's raw as fuck and I like the kid, but he needs to get better. This team will be fine.
I have a great feeling it wont He's coming off of a surgery that was done when football wasn't played. He didn't miss any time minus 11 days of minicamp, but still did half the drills.
idk if its that much of a stretch. I mean you GOT to figure that the addition of Holmes and an improved coordination with Braylon/Cotch/Keller at the very very minimum has to account for at least 5 more tds minimum for Sanchez. And you also have to factor in that almost half of his ints last year came over the course of TWO GAMES. Its kind of amazing when you look at it but 9 of his 20 ints was vs bills and @ NE. I think hed have to be god awful this year to not be able to do a 1:1 td int ratio.
I meant the color code system. Its not coming back. The kid knows his shit, and he's not a rookie anymore.
If we bring the color coded scheme back our QB of the futre aint that and we are a long way from that. Guy needs to show more patience and better judgement in the red zone , our Offense sputters in the red zone pre season , regular season and post season! Anyway I wasn't drunk when I watched last night and I have realised that drink is the key to watching all 3 of my chosen teams!! Roll on the Ravens , I will be there and will be drunK!
Hard to show patience when your offensive line can't pass protect. Sanchez needs to make reads faster and better to make up for the fact the O line stinks right now. With our pro bowlers and rating as the highest O line in the NFL last year Sanchez should have all day to throw back there. He doesn't. I agree with Thunder our O line also wasn't opening up the holes for the running game. I saw them open up some holes a few times against Carolina and a few times against Washington, but for the most part, the O line just wasn't dominating at the point of attack and creating space for the rush. Holy hell I hope it gets better. The only good thing that will come of this is if we keep losing and sputtering on offense I bet you we'll sign Revis by Week 1. If not, then by Week 4 if we're 1-3 or worse we'll give Revis whatever he wants.
Tbh when he does have time he isn't on it but its pre season and lets hope it gets better in 16 days time. In pre season I would have expected a lot of Sanchez/Keller but that relationship isn't there as yet.
