^^^^^ I can't. Junc is there anything about the Jets you like? For the life of me I can't figure out why you are a Jet fan. It's like you look for the worst in every player, game scenario, coach, and anything else green or flight related and just tear it to pieces. GO JETS!!!
I apologize for being realistic, do you want me to say our D has been great? The facts are that our D has held us back this year. We have won mostly w/ O and STs, if this D plays like ti is capabale of we can do something special here this next month but if not our season could be over quickly. I don't lie. I give honest, educated opinions.
what's funny to me is that our expectation going into this year was that of a dominant D. Our D is good this year but far from dominant! Those numbers are great in a normal year but are nowhere near our expectation for this year.
On the other hand I'd say our offense has gone over our expectations, mostly. Sure we had some real bad games but we all expected that with our young franchise QB.
our defense hasn't been as good as last year as a whole, but its still better then at least 28 out of the other 31 teams in the NFL so that's not too shabby
You're 100% correct. The Jets had a top 5-7 defense this year. Many expected, myself included, to build off the dominance from last year based on several factors; the 2nd year of the system and bringing in more talent. However, the fact remains that the league caught up to the Jets scheme faster then most thought. This was especially evident on 3rd and long. Think about all of those 3rd and 8 + yards where the opposition gained the first down. That's where they should have exerted their dominance but did not.
Those games were also the defense's fault. Yes, Junc will make that argument and will call me a child for mocking it.
So b/c the D had 2 really good games(one in tough weather where netiher offense could do anything) that means they had a great year? The D was not a bog time D this year, they were not a top 5 D this year. I don't think we watch the same games.
Yeah, that was totally what I said. As for the bold, how are you finding the time to post on TGG while you're on the air, Mike?
Junc, he makes a good point. This year our numbers reflect a top 5 d. As I said we expected a dominant D and did not have one. Hell that happends so rarely that I can think of only 2 (85 Bears and the 2000 ravens). So maybe it was our expectations that were unrealistic.
Not saying they were a top 5 defense is assinine. The rules were changed in the past decade to give all of the advantages to the offenses. The NFL wants points and TDs just like MLB wants HRs. You say the defense had 2 good games? What's your definition of "good"? Holding the Patriots to 14 points? Holding the Bills to 14 and 7 points? Holding Cincy to 10 points?
Holding the Packers to 9 was very impressive too, considering how well their offense played against others. Also holding Baltimore to 10 in week 1 when their offense was unknown at that point.
nice stats in there and a little surprising......however i would prefer to see some of the behind the door stats such as 3rd down sacks, ypp on first down, and defensive penalties that result in a first down.... there are a few more that can tell u the real story. some of those superficial stats listed can be very misleading. thanks again jil
Between the 2009 and 2010 defence there's things to prefer with both. In 2009, yes we were dominant for good chunks of the season, but we lost the first Miami game, Jacksonville and Atlanta game with back breaking drives to end the game, there was some issues with finishing there. This year, while we've had lapses, we closed out games when it mattered. Either way, if this defence plays sound fundamental football (like week 17) vs the Colts this weekend, I like our chances. Nice to see Pace and Taylor getting to the QB, although I wonder how much of that had to do with us and how much it had to do with the Bills. We'll find out on Saturday.
