What good would juicing in the offseason do a player during the season? He'd lose all his gains once it's out of his system. LOL @ people who think Smith is juicing because he added 12 ilbs of muscle to his frame.
lol you think pace is the only player who uses PEDs? their testing is a joke. He must have been extremely stupid or careless. These guys have a good heads up on when they're going to get tested. even if, they have ways around it (wizinator etc). the testing is merely in place to avoid a shitstorm like the MLB where there was no testing at all, hence the congressional hearings and media explosion
Would he not lose strength gains? I'm not claiming to know the ins and outs of PEDs, but I am under the impression that once one stops juicing, they revert to previous form. Do tell.
It depends what (if)he took, but you can keep most of what you gain with the exception of the water weight/bloat. If you continue to train and have a high enough caloric and protein intake, atrophy and strength loss will be marginal. obviously as a professional athlete, that's not really a concern. If he were some douchebag who never works out trying to juice for spring break , it'd be a different story That's why *most* pro athletes juice in the offseason, because they bulk up and then the grind of the season will result in overtraining and some muscle loss. Clay matthews is a good example. his biceps got considerably smaller during the season.
Duely noted. At the same time, it's not a given that E. Smith had to juice to add 12 pounds to his frame. It can be done naturally. So you're under the impression that most NFLers hit the juice during the offseason? That's an interesting thought, and I could see it. Wouldn't going on and off PEDs make them considerably less durable?
I remember cromartie tweeting about a month ago that he gained like 12 pounds of muscle and that he was doing MMA training
First of all, i always highly doubt the accuracy of reports that say "so and so added <x> pounds of muscle". You don't add muscle without adding some fat..now, they obviously are leaner than they started if the ratio of Lean Body Mass gains are higher than the fat gains. Second, yes it can be done naturally...........over a long period of time, not a few months, unless you're a genetic freak or you just started training and still getting newbie gains. A person is lucky to add 5-7 lbs of genuine lean body mass a YEAR if they are working out and eating clean, and after a certain point it's even less than that. Now, like i said, the number is probably exaggerated...so is it impossible he did it naturally? No, but it could go either way. How would PEDs make them less durable if it increases their recovery and lean body mass? The reason people get injured with PEDs is often because of too much too fast. Your muscles will experience hypertrophy and strength goes up in a shorter amount of time, however your tendons and ligaments don't keep that same pace. That's where people get in trouble. But that can still be mitigated. besides, most of these guys take HGH year round anyways, even at low doses. HGH alone doesn't make you big or even strong, but it helps recovery significantly and will help prevent injury or overtraining (along with muscle loss).
Cromartie is also actually black. a lot of the normal processes of physiology related to muscle mass tend to go out the window with a lot of black people. i worked out in a mostly black gym in newark for awhile, and i used to talk with a bunch of the bigger dudes who worked out there about their diets. It was almost always complete garbage, and their lifting form would often be horrible. But their genetics pretty much overidded all of that. *most* white people and hispanic people are not so lucky
Good to see his neck and shoulder muscles are stronger because it will spread the blow of impacts to his head. Smith has already had a concussion or two so he's at risk of it during the season.
