Anyone else hoping for a Demarco Murray situation with Powell, or is this very unlikely? It would be incredibly if he came in and gave a jolt to this offense. I know its wishful thinking...But what if....
I think we're all hoping for that. ...but it won't happen. He certainly has big play ability - something Greene doesn't have.
Who knows. Maybe some fresh legs can bring some new life to our run game. Split some carries with Greene and maybe Shonn realizes his job is not as safe as he thinks. Greene just doesnt run with the toughness he used to and seems to just fall across backwards now.
I honestly dont think he'll get a carry... I mean look at McKnight and the carries (lack there of) in the past 8 weeks. He had to prove himself on Special Teams, and Defense for that matter, to even get a chance on offense.
I'd love to see what Powell can do but I'm more concerned that they just stick with the run this week regardless of who's carrying the ball. The way they gave up on the run against the Pats was just sickening.
I've been thinking about this for a while now. It would be great if this guy could come in late in the year like shonn greene did a couple years back and give this team a little boost.
Part of me thinks this is the case; the other part of me is reminded of Shonne Greene in 09. I don’t remember seeing him on ST at all. He came in and pounded the rock. Powell is on the other-hand a very different back; he won’t provide elite power, speed, or elusiveness. Based on his college game he has, good hands, some speed, can pick up the blitz, and had the ability to create the big play. But; that is college; in the big east non-the less. I don’t expect much out of him; but hey he could surprise. We see him on special teams first.
I wasn't thinking Demarco Murray.. but the thought did pop in my head that maybe he can be the 2009 Shonn Greene and give the run game a lift with his fresh legs. I really don't think he's any kind of special talent (can't say that with certainty of course and I certainly hope he is), but a fresh running back down the stretch can do wonders for a slacking run game.
The major difference between now and 2009 and everyone hoping Powell can even provide some sort of boost like Greene did is that we are running ball not nearly even close to the same amount as we were in 2009. No way in hell would we have abandoned the run vs. NE like we did Sunday if that were 2009, and I really dont care who was playing in their secondary- when you are averaging over 5 yards a carry you dont stop running until the Defense makes you. I really think this team has gotten too "pussy"ish, at least on offense. I dont have much faith in our run game simply because we won't stick with it, and Schotty/or arguably the line hasnt allowed Sanchez to throw a pass over 30 yards. Just has no balls to it.
How banged up are Kerley and Turner? If they don't play, or cannot finish, I think we might see Joe in the slot. Maybe this would allow Powell to get some touches behind Greene.
