I know its Rich Cimini. But is it possible that the Schotty era could end more perfectly?

Dolphins lose out on the Luck sweepstakes, go on a mini-tear but fire their coach at just the right time for them not to give a shit when we face them for the last game, and now are thinking about taking a major headache off our hands.

I can't believe Dolphins, after getting burned by the likes of Wannstedt, Cameron and Sparano, would go the hot assistant coach route again, though.
    (Is Schotty a "hot assistant"?)

Pettine thing seems more like BS, but if Pettine leaves, could Rob Ryan come here ?(he's not too popular in Dallas these days)

Schgtty to the Dolphins would unify the board: we'd all be Schotty haters.

The statement by Schotty that he's not looking to leave the Jets is nuts. What young coach wants to be an offensive coordinator after his 6th year on the job? It's all guts and no glory and sooner or later you're going to get fired if you stick around. In Schotty's case he'd likely take the people above him down if he stuck around for another 2 or 3 years.

Could Rob and Rex really co-exist on the same team?? They both seem so competitive vs each other

Theres no way this is known already it sounds like he is just guessing. I can't imagine in the middle of a run to make the playoffs our 2 biggest ACs are taking phone calls for new jobs.

Both of them have been around for 2 years that went to the AFC championship game. If the Jets make a run in the playoffs this season both should move on. If they win a Super Bowl they'll definitely get the opportunity to do so.

I'm really surprised that Pettine is not being mentioned for an NFL job at this point. Somebody out there somewhere must want an apple off of the Ryan tree at this point.

No coach in their right mind would tell the media that they're looking to move on in the middle of a playoff run.

Cimini just said there are rumors. This isn't any new news. Get back to me when the Fins request an interview. Personally I think Schotty ends up in KC if McDaniels doesn't.

I know what you mean, but maybe teams are scared away by the fact that he was coaching high school football just 10 years ago.

Im not saying its not possible they leave at the end of the year I just can't imagine that either coach has either thought about it or discussed it with all that is going on right now.

there is no way rex and rob could exist on the same team...competitive, alpha males, who are also brothers....

imagine the FUCK YOU fest on the sidelines in Rob makes a shit call on a play that results in a TD! OUr sideline is fucked up enough now without that shit (i.e timeout before the first snap last week)

10 years is a long time. The aggressive defense that the Jets and Ravens run is one of the main contenders for best scheme at this point. People must be interested in exploring that in this new passing era.

I guess part of the problem is that Pettine works in Ryan's shadow. People don't know how much of the game plan and overall scheme is his and how much is directly Ryan's influence.

That and he really doesnt get a ton of respect league wide it seems. I think most people feel Rex is the brains and Pett. just kind of follows Rex's lead.

I'd be really surprised if Schotty wasn't thinking long and hard about where he might land next season. Staying in one place too long makes your contributions stale and the value of Schotty's contributions has never been clear in the first place.

I think those people would be correct too. Im sure Mike Pettine contributes but Rex is for sure the mastermind. Without Rex Pettine would not be as successful.

I think this is obvious. The question is: has Rex taught Pettine enough over the years they have been working together that Pettine can go somewhere else with a DC under him and plant the seeds of that defense and then make whatever changes are necessary for a positive evolution to occur?

Eric Mangini was incapable of taking Belichik's defensive schemes and making them work somewhere else let alone improve upon them. However we have to recognize that by the time Mangini left the Patriots it is unclear that Belichik was still capable of presiding over a topflight defense.

We see Mangini as a failure because he could not carry the precepts of Belichik's defense elsewhere and succeed with it, however his master has had not much more luck than he did in keeping that defense strong at home.

Yea it reminds me a lot of Mangini. Whenever people take a coordinator away from a great HC a lot of times they don't pan out. I would trust Schotty as HC more because atleast he runs our offense and there are no questions about that. All the Coordinators out of NE have failed because their weaknesses were no longer masked by Belichick.

Schotty always seemed glued to Sanchez's hip during the clips we saw on Hard Knocks, I think that illustrates that his true value is the same as it was in San Diego. He runs the offense like a Quarterbacks coach, it seems. He hasn't done a terrible job with Sanchez, but his concentration on mentoring Mark seems to take something away from play design.
