When they teamed up in Dallas, the first season Sean Payton was the one calling the plays, the second season it was Sparano. Not sure if it'll be that way again but we'll see.

Both Haley and Sparano have to prove themselves
This will work, at least in the short term
Jets are looking at a two year window, where if they don't get to SB,
with the realistic hope of winning it in the future, everyone will be out

Haley should be able to contain himself for 2 years

Plus, believe it or not, Haley has said he started w/the Jets, loves the Jets and really wants to be here.

Regardless if these coaching moves work out, bringing them in definitely speaks well of Woody - he appears to be willing to throw down the cash to improve the on-the-field product. (Now if he'd just lower the price of club seats...)

let me clarify.....i think Haley would be awesome. Miami has a worse o than the jets. Sparano by himself would not be an improvement, with Haley, a different story....much better.

Sparano will. That's how it worked back in 2006 as well.

I just don't want Tony settling for FGs every game like he did in Miami

And he did that in Dallas too, right?

Sparano called plays in 2006, he lost playcalling duties for 2007.

So the Cowboys in 2006 settled for FGs a lot? Stay with the topic. You just need to say YES or NO. It is not that hard. Ok?

Which leads to my only concern: the BIGGEST problem with the Jets today is, we hear now, a complete absence of leadership. I hope splitting this job between two strong personalities won't create new issues.

I don't think it will. Sparano can be the leader of the offense and Haley can be the leader of Santonio Holmes.

I don't know, I didn't watch watch them. I know, as usual, they didn't win a playoff game and I know he lost playcalling responsibilty(that can't be a good sign, can it?).

A valid concern actually, if Haley tags along as well; back in 2003~2006, Parcells was the presiding figure, so I don't think the leadership problem was there during that time. In 2007, Wade Phillips took over, and they did pretty well statistically, but in terms of wins and losses, they were merely pedestrian (9-7). It remains to be seen whether Rex can exert same amount of leadership over the two personalities.

    SERIOUSLY.

I can picture it now. 3rd Quarter: Patriots 14 Jets 10.. 3rd and 5 from the NE 14. Sparano calls a swing pass from behind the line that gets the Jets 3/4yards. 4th and 1 from the 10? Not even a debate Sparano was kicking the field goal on 3rd down with his playcall. Easy Field Goal is good:

    Patriots 14
    Jets 13

CUE THE GIANT FIST PUMP FROM BIG TONY!!!!!

I will literally lose my mind the first time this happens, let alone a whole season of that crap.
