I've always considered myself a realist, and while always optimistic, have never considered myself someone who wears "green glasses" The media has gotten out of hand though, you'd think the jets are the browns the way they've received constant doubt. Question the offense? That's justifiable, have at it. But now im even hearing so called analysts question the defense. While constantly quoting how we were 22nd in PPG allowed last year. Yet I hear nobody mentioning how the jetss are younger and faster in the front 7. How kyle wilson could start on over half the teams in the league and only plays nickel because he's playing behind the best CB in the nfl and a top 15 CB in cromartie. I questioned rexs love affair with cb's because the front 7 depth suffered until this year. Now this sstrategy will pay off. Demario davis will see the field far more than people think and can play ILB in a 3 man front and OLB in a 4 man. David harris is STILL underrated and has played at a pro bowl level since his rookie year. Coples will go down as a steal, for someone who had question marks about his motor I've yet to see it. He commands double teams, keeps his head on a swivel and is versatile enough to play in every gap on defense. He will take some time to become consistent but im not worried. Wilkerson was second to only JJ Watt in tackles for loss by rookie DL. Anyone who's seen him play should feel he's got a bright future. Plays hard till the whistle every snap and much like coples can play inside a 4 man front and as a two gap run stopper as a 3-4 DE. Pushes the pocket well. Pouha, Ellis,DeVito. Great run stoppers and this isn't even arguable. The question marks on this defense are at pass defense from the safeties and if Maybin can develop as a run stopper and not be a liability in the base formation. The positive thing is though he found the qb regularly in limited snaps and went from a bust to a contributor. If rex can continue this salvation project it will be a very underrated contribution to this defense. If this defense can not give up big plays in the passing game and use its injection of youth to revert its run defense to 09-11 form, which isn't out of question since the only missing piece from then is Kris Jenkins, who missed most of 10-11 anyways. Then this defense will make doubters eat alot of crow. Now before I get labeled as serving up a big pitcher of green kool aid, keep in mind everything I've said is true. Now what can make this all meaningless is if the offense can't at least operate at a average level. Most notably, limiting turnovers and OL consistency. If the jets lose tomorrow expect alot of people to hit the panic button, not here and most certainly not yet. I have a feeling the offense isn't as half as bad as it looked under vanilla playcalling. I do however feel this defense is ready to carry this team as long as the OL and WR depth don't become an albatross. Im anticipating tomorrow to be a very good barometer for the Jets OL. While I feel the Bills have been overhyped this offseason. I do feel their DL is now one of the best in the NFL from a talent standpoint and am curious to see what Sparano does to address this. Football is back, along with overreactions, clueless opinions and americas NEW favorite past time. Here's to both teams staying healthy and to another year of the game we all love. Cheers.
I hope the team is paying attention to the media, how much everyone is counting them out. How people are ready to count the Bengals as an elite team after one playoff appearance (and no wins) while we had 4 playoff wins in the past 3 seasons and people are ready to put us on top 5 draft pick watch.
If our new and improved Defense steps up like you presented above, then Sanchez can scratch out 15 pts/game we probably go 12-4. I would not be surprised to see Rex's new Defense pitch a few shutouts this year. Saying the first part of our schedule is brutal and we could go 0-5 b/c Mark has to face tough defenses like Pitt and Texans is skipping the part where those same teams have to face Rex Ryan's new and improved defense as well. If our boys up front can shut down Arian Foster and hold the Texans to 17 points, you have to admit ANY team with ANY offense has a shot at winning the game.
Well said indeed Here is a big cheer for a strong game on both sides of the ball....no turn overs and no injuries. Let the media spin our win to say we caught the Bills of guard.
I demand this thread be stickied. With that said, I co-sign this and +10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.9 it
I'm so tired of predictions and prognosticating, and all this crap. It is time for our Jets to show what they're all about! GO JETS!
What ive noticed is ALOT if not ALL experts are quick to buy into offensive teams while none are quick to buy into defensive teams. If you have an elite offense people will suck your dick quickly, but when people hear defense, many questions pop into their head.
The good thing is that this offense looks like it's more likely to move the chains and get some sort of points on the board compared to last season, even if they don't get as many touchdowns when they get to the redzone. Even long drives that don't result in any points gives the defense a rest so that come 4th quarter in a tight game the Jets have the upper hand.
Although most "experts" consider this year's Jets squad as average at best, I kinda like the "underdog" label for this year. It's obvious that our defense will be Elite, and though nobody really knows how our offense will play out, if we can limit turnovers and give Sanchez time to actually throw the ball instead of being on his back, we will be in it every single game.
When they lay the beat down at 1 pm, watch the tremendous ass covering. On fng NFL network, the Analysts all picked Buffalo, then in the closing segment, picked the Jet defense over the Buffalo offense. Huh?
Well written and very informative. I agree with the writer and do feel our Offense will be much better then what the media tried to have us believe. The three ring circus is going to wake up and play great and impose its will on teams like the Bills and Steelers. I think Sanchez's mind set is now completely diferent then it was. He is a tough hombre and his play will show it significantly starting today.
Lol I am the writer. even better I typed it from my cell phone on my couch after watching the lousy total access on NFLN last night. That and after hearing us become a punching bag on sports radio the last few months. Thanks though I am grateful you liked reading it I know some people wont read anything over a paragraph
That^..you would think the fans need to spend six weeks in a psycho ward with how much they worry about what the Jet-hating media has to say.
Baldinger picked the Jets while Sharpe and McNabb, snickering and laughing at the Jets O, picked the Bills. We all know there's only one way to shut the smug a-holes claptraps. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap2000000059613/Playbook-Bills-vs-Jets Excellent OP.
Well, the offense really didn't give anyone the warm and fuzzies this preseason or last season for that matter. Add in the Tebow factor and its not hard to see the skepticism overflowing from both the fans and the media. At least Rex didn't make things worse this year by making some outlandish prediction or some other off the field shenanigans. Is this team as bad as its portrayed? Probably not. Is it as good as Rex thinks it is? Probably not but the good thing is, after today we'll get some idea of what this "new offense" will be like. I don't blame the media or the fans for the skepticism. Today would be a really good time for the Jets to shut everyone up and convince us that the circus has finally left town.
I love the "experts" all picking against the J-E-T-S. The Post caricatures the entire organization as a bunch of pathetic clowns. I hope that post coverpage is wallpapered all over that locker room this morning. Hopefully Rex ordered 5000 copies of that cover and throws them all over the locker room this morning - this is what they think you are.
