Disagree. You can't make something out of nothing. How can you over come bad decisions made about player personel by the GM and bad play calling and game planning by the OC. It is what it is but to blame Matt Cavanaugh for this is obserd.
When you have a QB who has been this rotten this long, you dump the coach. If the Jets are running a good ole boy network, they are not going anywhere.
I actually have a connection to Cavanaugh and the thing is, Rex and Cavanaugh are VERY close. They won a Super Bowl together in Baltimore, thus they have a much tighter bond. Hell out of everyone on the Jets, Cavanaugh, might have the longest relationship with Rex.
Agree 100%. The new OC and QB coach will have 1/2 season to determine if Sanchez is salvageable or not. After that we move forward with a project QB and retool in 2014. If Rex sticks with the same Sanchez too long he will be our ex-coach. THE ONE THING WE DO NOT NEED IS ANOTHER DISTRACTION LIKE VICK OR A "HAS BEEN QB" THAT CAB SELL TICKETS
Very surprised he is still on the team. As soon as Mike T got canned his last order right after he got the call from Woody should have been to fire Cavanaugh.
Not really. Sanchez has gone from bad to worse with no signs of improvement on the way. It's one thing to regress, but to go back to rookie year numbers and performance is ridiculous. Was that with Cavanaugh's other amazing protege, Dilfer? I kid. That's interesting though. I forgot that they had history that far back. Here's his career: Offensive coach: Arizona 1994: 8-8; 25th ranked offense 1995: 4-12; 24th ranked offense Offensive coach: SF 49ers 1996: 12-4, 6th ranked offense Offensive Coordinator Chicago Bears: 1997: Record 4-12, offense rated 17th 1998: Record 4-12, offense rated 21st Offensive Coordinator Baltimore Ravens: 1999: 8-8 24th 2000: 12-4 won superbowl - 16th 2001: 10-6 - 14th 2002: 7-9 - 26th 2003: 10-6 - 21st 2004: 9-7 - 31st College Offensive Coordinator Pittsburgh Panthers from 05-08 QB Coach - NY Jets -2009-present. Looking at that, why did we hire that guy in the first place to coach our QBs? He inherited the 49ers offense with Young, so I don't him him being a huge contributor to that team. Other than that he only had an above average offense once in his career at 14th. Bye Cavanaugh. You shall plague us no longer.
If Cavanaugh is still on the CS this season, Rex's bed will be made by week 15. I want to support Rex, but I can't support that decision.
Sanchez was a top 5 draft pick. He sure as hell wasnt nothing. He had a ton of talent and there's a reason why he was looked as a top draft pick. Its his job to make Sanchez improve. He failed. Despite the lack of talent around Sanchez, he regressed fundamentally- footwork, arm strength, pocket presence, ability to read a defense, accuracy... Pretty much in all aspects. That sure as hell falls on the QB coach. Its not like we gave him Greg McElroy and said "there, turn him into a franchise QB".
