Albert Breer @AlbertBreer Couple things here: 1) Asking around last night, feeling around NFL is Jets have to trade Revis; 2) The market is limited by circumstances Folks who know Idzik believe he'll be measured and won't rush into dealing Revis. Revis' camp is more motivated to push this to conclusion. Talking to 3 execs in last 12 hours, market for Revis seems to be a first-rounder, plus another high pick, perhaps a conditional '14 pick. To clarify, I meant two picks -- first-round pick to start with, then a second pick, which could be a conditional in '14 based on his health
It really doesn't matter that teams feel we " have to" trade Revis. If more then one team wants him that works in our favor.
the more I look at mocks and the more I look at our roster, trading Revis is an essential move this offseason. They really need to trade him prior to draft day or on draft day. Aside from SF, Atlanta has also been named as interested. Here are some other teams I could see pulling the trigger. - NO - Terrible secondary, enough said. - DET - Many see them taking Millner. Also losing Avril and Houston so they need help on D and someone that will fill a CB hole and help the pass rush. - KC (yes KC) - There is no clear cut #1. Their secondary is pretty good but they could load up. More unlikely but possible. - OAK - Horrid secondary. Same situation as DET. - TB - Need secondary help to round out that defense. A player like Revis could help that offense which is turnover prone but also explosive at times. Getting that offense a short field and more looks could be valuable. - MIN - Adding Revis will take that defense to the next level and play off their offensive style well. - SD - Secondary is aging and defense is aging in general. Could consider inserting a key piece to their D to help their recently plateuing offense. Just some thoughts, but these are teams I see as potential trade partners. That list is in no particular order and some would be more serious considerations than others, but all I'm saying is I could see them expressing interest. I'm not too familiar with their cap situations so that has not been taken into consideration. On a side note, ATL also could be a landing spot for Tebow for short yardage situations after they lost Turner. Not like it would sweeten the pot too much but we could potentially add Tebow to this deal for a project player at a position of need.
Daily News is reporting that teams are working on a long term deal with Revis. If it happens that way the Jets should get good compensation for Him. Rotoworld writeup: Sources tell the Daily News that the 49ers and Falcons are both interested in trading for Darrelle Revis. When the trading period opens on March 12, the Jets are expected to strongly consider the best offer for Revis. "He's gone," a Daily News source said Tuesday. "This is happening. They're moving him. They can't keep him. They're rebuilding. They're starting fresh." The suitors have reportedly made it clear that they are willing to part with draft picks and give Revis the new long-term deal he wants despite his ACL tear. At this point, it would be a major surprise if we ever see him in a Jets uniform again.
It's reassuring to know that teams are working on an extension for him meaning we'll get nice compensation. Also if other teams see this they may throw themselves into the hat.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN Source on Revis' future with Jets: “He’s gone. This is happening. They’re moving him. They can’t keep him. They’re rebuilding.” #nyj Best window to trade Revis is during free agency, not closer to draft or later this summer. Otherwise, the already select market will shrink
I think that's plenty with him coming off of injury and asking for a new contract making him the highest paid defensive player in NFL history.
Yeah, maybe you're right. Hopefully there is a bidding war going on that can get us a 3rd pick though.
i made a similar post to this. add denver to this list and remove SD. denver has actually shown interest according to the rumor mill.
Don't count out TB. They have the cap room and need a corner desperately. A first and a 4th and it's done.
The NFC South could generate a lot of competition to get him. Every team could use him, and every team is not going to want the others to get him. I still think the relationship with Tampa Bay and Idzik makes them the favorites. Best mutual situation. We can turn the 13th pick into even more good picks.
There is a need for quantity (at rookie salaries) as well as quality, so i think we're shooting for 3 picks. If its a team with a low first (Atl, SF), I would say a first and a third this year and a conditional pick next year - first if he makes pro bowl, second if he plays 14 games, fourth otherwise. If we're talking about a top 15 pick this year, you still get two more picks but maybe they are a fifth and a lower conditional scale.
@AJCFalcons Don't get too worked up about the Revis report. #Falcons freed up cash for their free agents. Jets trying to leverage 49ers with leak. Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora Teams I'd look at as possible suitors for Revis would include SF, WSH (need cap room), TB, IND, DET (must redo Stafford) ...
