Last season was most disappointing for all of us, and the contributors to our demise were many and quite frankly some very unexpected. What if the opposite happens this year, are we possibly underestimating the potential of this young team? 1- The OL who was a sack waiting to happen for many games, suddenly becomes solid if not a strength with depth to boot, enhancing the running game and giving the QB time to make the throws. 2- Our play calling and MM offensive game plan becomes unpredictable, aggressive and capitalizes on keeping the defense guessing. 3- The D which last year showed their age particularly in the fourth quarter, allowing monster runs and mid field catches to extend plays, is now faster, younger, stronger, and we might finally have a pass rush with our front 7 to force more 3 and out. 4- Revis was not a contributor last year yet we played well, we could be better in the secondary than last year if we can replace Landry with something close play wise. 5- Can we all agree that our WR corps will be far and away better than last year barring the same amount of injuries? 6- TEs and RB - I will call it a wash, we will be better at running and perhaps not quite as effective with the TEs. But if H Smith grows into a starter we might have ourselves a dual TE threat for a change. SO FAR I THINK MOST IS POSITIVE 7- So now we get to the hard nut that will define our season....the QB position. If Sanchez regains his confidence, plays closer to his second year or better, this team may surprise a few folks. In fact one could say a playoff spot could be doable. BUT, IF Sanchez falls back to his 2012 performance frocked with mental mistakes, and Geno is not ready to be a starter, then the reversal of fortune will be delayed and possibly by just one QB an a couple of players away. 8- Of course if Geno becomes this year Wilson or Kap, then all hell will brake loose in NY. This season has the making of a very good beginning for the Jets
I can agree with you on the fact that I believe we are heading in the right direction. No clue about 2013 but hey you never know.
Yes, because.,,sanchez isnt better than Freeman, who ever the Jills put up, and Lockyer. And rex cant beat Beli. Schedule says yes. After the bye. Baltimore is the lone roadblock, and their defense? No Reed, No Lewis?
One great thing about the NFL today is that teams frequently turn things things around very quickly and shock the world. With rex calling the defense all it really takes is for the offense to turn it around. I don't think the offense suddenly becoming good is an unreasonable scenario even if it's not the most likely.
I am optimistic about the season mainly because i wanna see everyone play already ! .. maybe not so much when we get deep into the year. I actualy will watch EVERY Jets pre-season game for once in my life.... this will be a great way for Rex and MM to find our starters. it will be time for Zach Rodgers to shine and the rest of the team. I would be happy if we had 2012's games.... but 2013 seems hard as fuck to get through......
I definitely agree the first three are doable. And, call me crazy, but I'm starting to warm up to the idea of Sanchez starting (if he has an Alex Smith like turnaround under MM. If not, the hook will be quick.)
2014 is the year where the Jets hopefully make another run. People will disagree, but there just isn't enough talent on O to get the job done this year. Idzik is taking steps to move the circus out of town and build towards the future like the successful franchises do. I think it will happen, but not this year.
With the cap space AND the draft picks, we'll be poised for 3-5 years. I seriously believe we can take the division one of those years.
Of course not this year.. if everything goes according to plan.. i say 2015 we become SERIOUS contenders.
Agreed. I keep reading people on the board thinking playoffs for the Jets THIS year. I say no way to that. We are heading in the right direction, but playoffs aren't happening this year. '14-15 Baby!!!!!
People are seriously underestimating the Buccaneers this year, and I'm not saying that because they have Revis now..though that doesn't hurt. For Hobbes, um yeah. Because the Bucs last year had the leagues #9 offense in total yards, #10 offense in passing yards, #13 offense in terms of points scored. #8 offense in terms of passing TD's. What let the Buc's down last season was they were #28 in points allowed..and they shored up their defense this off season, and not just with the additon of Revis. Patriots are, even injured, a better team than the jets. Bills are a wild card, it all depends on how they play as a team. Their defense is still suspect. But they added some big time offensive weapons and addressed a number of defensive needs in free agency. It depends on how their young recievers do...but they could be dangerous if Kolb is half way decent or EJ steps up and wins the job.
Pretty much this. The Jets are likely to win 6 games next year but if the offense turns out to be capable they could win 9. If the offense turns out to be good they could win more. I'm going to stay with 6 for now.
The only issue I have is similar to 09/10 Go to the AFCCG and then pick #29 and #30 We were somewhat mediocre and were drafting late like elite teams I wouldn't mind just missing out that way we keep Rex hopefully and still draft in the 12-19 range which could net us a dynamic Wide Receiver
Disappointing yes but that ain't nothing compared to 1 of THEE most disappointing, disheartening, disheveled & disgusting seasons many Jet fans have EVER endured............ http://jsportsblogger.wordpress.com...s-of-all-time-part-28-the-1996-new-york-jets/ .....& I sat thru it all!!!
I agree. We will probably have a mediocre season this year but we should have a good amount of comp picks next year and we can use our picks to mainly address offense as our defense is relatively young. Obviously some holes on defense will open up through guys leaving but the majority of our focus at draft and in free agency should be building the offense up.
May have been the worst season not not the worst team. I remember suffering through the early to mid 70's, specifically the stretch from '73 to '77, 5 and just one of them the Jets won more than 4 games. Namath was just a shell of his old self and might as well have just put a stretcher on the field in his place, injuries, drinking and age had just devestated his game. That was a bad half decade because you could still see the stars who had shone so greatly just a few years before; Namath, Boozer and a some up and coming players in Riggins and Caster. But as a team at that point in time I'm still surprised in 76 and 77 they managed to win 3 games. Especially that '77 team. I will say this, with the Salary cap in the league it's possible for any team to reach the playoffs, all they need is a career year at the right position(s) and any team can make the playoffs...
