The '98 D was pretty much as good as our '09 D.

oy - so many what ifs during that run of 81 and 82....

IMO those 81 and 82 teams were at least just as good as the modern day 98-09-10 teams. a very talented roster thru and thru except maybe for the secondary.

i recall the seahawks being our achilles heel during 81, losing both games. geez if we split with them we get a higher seed and u dont have that crazy bills game for the WC.

82 was strange with the game u cited with the fish miami. if we win that one we probably beat the chiefs as well in the last game and finish 8-1.

oh the memories. i was 15/16 at the time and little did i know what was ahead of me as a jet fan.

Curtis wasn't Curtis in 1998, that was actually one of the worst years of his career. We had better run games in 2009 and 2010.

'98 was the Jets only 12 win regular season. It was one of their very few division titles. The Jets had a bye and hosted a playoff game which they won. They throttled the NFC champs during the regular season. They had a 10 point lead in the third quarter during the AFCCG, on the road, against the eventual SB Champs.

They were the 2nd best team in the NFL that year and would have won the SB had they gotten past Denver somehow. I've been a Jets fan since the late 70's and that was the best Jets team I ever saw.

I think we would have beaten Atlanta but when we did beat them in the reg season it was at home and they were w/o Chris Chandler and had 45 year old Steve DeBerg at QB so i'm not sure it would have been as easy as the first meeting.

1998. Broncos cheated by being over the salary cap. Turnovers were brutal that game. Should have won. I cried after the loss.

A little forgotten fact about both Elway Super Bowl titles. They did cheat the cap and I believe it was Elway and Davis who were involved. If memory serves correct they lost a draft pick and were fined a million bucks for doing so. Long before spygate there was salary cap gate. I think they got busted again a few years ago.

I'm gonna go with the 1998 team. Vinny had maybe the best season by a Jet QB ever. It also shouldn't be forgotten that the team went 13-3 over their final 16 games (including playoffs) after starting 0-2. They somehow lost to the 4 win Rams and the 3 win Colts. Those two losses were the difference between hosting Denver and going to Denver. They did however sweep the AFC East and this is what makes the team standout from any in Jet history but they hold the record (along with the 97 Packers) for going 7-0 against teams that made the playoffs. That doesn't include the win over Jacksonville in the playoffs. 4 of the 6 AFC East teams made the playoffs that year.

To be fair everybody says that we were the 2nd best team in the NFL that year but the Vikings were 15-1 and had the greatest offense anyone had ever seen at that point. The Falcons weren't the best team in the NFC and maybe not even the 2nd best but they won when it mattered.

The 1998 regular season was the best out of the three since it was 2 years removed from the Kotite era and was the team that dominated the division. 2009 was too much of a headache during the regular season & the Jets got lucky to be in the playoffs. 2010 was close to 1998 but they didn't win the division. Either way, nothing happened from it & we're still waiting for SB ring #2.

    1998, easily.

The Broncos were better than us too though. If they don't lose that stupid game to he Giants they would has gone undefeated. That team was scary good.

Remember that after they lost to NYG they didn't really play the next week at Miami. If we had beaten SL and Ind and were fighting for the 1 seed I'm sure they would have beaten Miami the way they did in the playoffs so I don't think those 2 games cost us the 1 seed.

Minny was 15-1 but I was never convinced, Dennis Green teams always failed in postseason and so did Randall Cunningham teams and Minny had both. I think we were the 2nd best team, I really think we were the best. We should have beaten Denver. 2 losses bother me more than others- Pitt '10 title game and Den '98 title game, I felt we should have won both of those games.

What's sad is that they had a very good chance to beat the 49ers in week 1. I always wonder what would have happened had Parcells kept Foley around the following year instead of bringing in Rick Mirer. I hear people say Parcells was unfair to Foley but he started the Rams game and we got smashed. That was my 1st true Jets road game. I went to the 96 win against Arizona but my dad lived in Phoenix so that didn't really count and I went with my dad to the "Garrison Hearst" game.... I still think he is running BTW.

The Colts loss was very close but the Rams blew us away. I think Tony Banks started that day for the Rams and I nearly got into a fight with some dumb redneck. Hard to imagine that Trent Green was then brought in the following year to be starter but goes down in the preseason and Kurt Warner (who when I first heard the name thought was the old Penn State RB Curt Warner) led them to a SB Title.

I am sure we would have been better if he kept Foley, would we have won anything in the playoffs? I doubt it, remember that he never won a game he started and finished for us.

3 of our 4 losses were to .500 or worse teams, week 2 vs. Baltimore was probably our worst loss(that or SL). W/ SL you could see the talent they had, I didn't think they'd win the SB the next year but I expected them to be much better.

1998 remains as my favorite year as a Jets fan. (Wasn't around for 68 Jets) God that team was awesome and fun to watch.

Because of some bad decisions I made over the years with mind altering substances (often induced by the Jets) I struggle to remember games/plays/whole seasons, but I can literally remember every game from '98 that's how awesome it was!

Funny how you mention that team went 13-3 over their last 16 games, what's even more impressive was that outside of that wacky loss in IND to a rookie Peyton Manning TD pass late, Vinny Testaverde didn't lose a single game as starting QB of that team until the Denver loss. Just incredible.

So unfortunate that team ran into that Denver team. The 1998 Denver Broncos team might've been better than any 2000s football team. They were stacked. Most year's that 1998 Jets team wins the SB!!

We need to get homefield advantage sometime in our history, boys. Tired of blowing easy games Same Old Jets style and having to win road playoff games!!

The '98 Jets are one of only two teams in history to beat 7 teams that went to the playoffs that year. That's an amazing stat. '98 was a fantastic year. '09 and '10 while great years, can't compare.

I personally believe 1998 because of Parcells along with a veteran quarterback in Vinny who was lights out. Solid defense as well. With Vinny, Curtis Martin, Keyshawn and Chrebet... That offense was deadly behind a powerful offensive line.

But then again in 2010 we went on the road and eliminated both of Belly/Brady/Patriots in NE along with Manning and Indy inside the dome. That, can not be overlooked. A truly great defense along with a smash-mouth rushing attack.

Both special teams to me but I just believed in 1998 like never before.

    Funny. Too funny:rofl2:

All you guys voting 1998, miss the obvious point.

Parcells brought in a failed turnover prone QB, who finally got a decent OC..,but yet hate a guy thats been there twice, because hes been a turnover machine without a decent OC.

We FINALLY get a decent OC...and no one can do the math.

1998 for most of the reasons that have been mentioned already.

we beat 4 teams, 3 of them twice.

    Mia 2x
    Buf 2x
    NE 2x
    Atl

we had 4 teams in the AFC East make the playoffs which helped and we were head and shoulders the best team in the division.
