I think flajetfan meant that "it's rigged," like, in a tongue-in-cheek way:
If the competition is based on not turning over the ball, then, yeah it's "rigged" against Sanchez because he's incapable of NOT turning over the ball.

    Haha get it?

He's passing off his opinions as fact. IMO.

I'm hoping for a #1 pick at QB in the 2014 draft....and the only chance of that happening is to have Gino play the entire season.

Now, that is really what the Jets have in their plans, in the overall scheme..play a rookie QB to set themselves up for the more desirable player.....brilliant!!

If there is true competition for the QB position Simms and McElory should be given a shot. They both looked good with limited playing time. Simms has a gun for an arm and should be given a good look.

Now that I re-read your comment that joke was a gem. My bad for missing it completely.

Jets wouldn't put Simms in there.......they would win too many games, lol

Seriously, at this juncture, I'd rather see Simms take over if/when Mark flounders..

There's hardly enough snaps to have a QB competition with 2 guys. You want to make it 4?

I thought this competition was rigged for Sanchez?

If it was rigged for Geno, why not have Geno start preseason game 1? I don't think it's rigged, I just think Sanchez didn't blow away the CS/FO and they are going to go with Geno this preseason game if healthy. If Geno throws 3 picks this weekend and then starts game 1 of the season, okay I see it being rigged. But right now, it's natural to want to see Geno with the 1s against another team. I don't see any "rigging" right now.

Sighs. He went to the dark side. Because that's what Jets fans want to read.

What are the chances that it is actually a competition and not rigged? You know, like Geno and Sanchez are actually competing for a starting spot? Because they have said ever since Idzik was hired that there would be competition at every position? Even quarterback? Because quarterback is a position? Right?

Wake up people. Manish is feeding us drama and we are eating it up because we are fools and we love drama. The reality is that nothing is rigged. The QB who gives us the best chance to win will start week 1. Period. No one has been announced as the starter because they haven't seen enough of Geno in game situations to fully evaluate him against Sanchez.

We dont really want to read it. We see it and react to it.... its hard not to when its such unprofessional, left field drivel. I think we should ban Mehta articles from this forum! Thats how much I hate his work.

It's strange, though. If he was really trying to get the ire of Jets fans, he could have said that it was rigged for Sanchez, used the notion of Sanchez getting the easy draw against Jax while Geno would be getting the shaft against a much tougher defense in the Giants.

It doesn't add up to just be floating some random conspiracy theory when it's probably what the majority of Jets fans want.

"The job is Geno's to win...."

NO SHIT. 2 specific events / dates determined that

    1) the Titans game, 2012
    2) the day Geno was drafted, 2013

    * honorable mention to the AZ game, and a whole bunch of other shitty occurrences...

This offseason was MARK'S to PROVE he deserves to be the starting QB, and that 2010 was just a sample of what he should be able to do....... and not the turd bowl performance put on the past 2 seasons.

Nothing was rigged in this competition.

There were a couple of factors that were going to play into things no matter what direction the Jets went:

    1. If Geno Smith was ready to play he was going to be the QB no matter what Sanchez did in camp. All Smith had to do was clearly pass the sniff test as an NFL QB and he was going to get the job.

    2. If Geno Smith was not ready to play and Mark Sanchez had a really good camp and pre-season games Sanchez was going to get the job by default although he would then have to continue the really good play in order to hold onto the job and he had a real chance of losing it when Geno was ready to go.

What we've seen so far is that case 1 did not materialize to date. It's not clear that Geno Smith is ready to go yet and so the Jets have not given him the job so far.

Case 2 has two problems at this point. One is that Geno Smith is not clearly not ready to play. He might be ready or he might not. We've still got time until the Jets must make the decision and they're going to use as much of it as they can.

Second, Mark Sanchez did not have a really good camp and pre-season games so far. He's looked exactly like the QB we thought he was although it's possible that his higher completion percentage in camp might extend into the regular season, unlike last year when his 63% completion percentage was good for a one game improvement against a weak pass defense and then promptly collapsed below his previously low career completion percentage.

In other words the two assumptions that would clearly define the Jets choice this summer have both failed to materialize. Geno Smith is not clearly ready to go and Mark Sanchez has not made a dramatic step up in his game to allow him to capitalize on that fact and force the Jets hand.

The odds at this point suggest that Geno will be named the starting QB but that's mainly because he began in the lead as camp opened and he's going to get the last best shot at making his mark in the Giants game.

If he falls down in the Giants game then Mark Sanchez may well still be named the opening day QB because he's the default in the event that Geno is not ready to go.

Because Geno was injured. The question wasn't "who do we want?"; it's "is Geno ready to play?"
