the blame's not directly attributed to Sanchez but he made the decision harder for the management. This led to the stupid management decision which was made to save some face, to show some loyalty to the QB that took them to 2 AFCCG. Idzik & Co. is not as coldblooded as some would make it sound.
I guess you are basing your idea about Simms sucking on his college resume, which I can't blame you for. It's the logical argument. And if he ends up getting a start this season, it's logical to expect him to suck. I wasn't able to see the Giants preseason game real-time and read about people on this forum being excited about his and kind of laughed it off, and I wrote it off as Brett Ratliff nonsense. I watched the replay of that game as saw a couple of very impressive passes from this guy. The touchdown pass made my eyes fall out. That ball was moving so fast that the camera couldn't track it. I even went slow-mo on the HD and as it was traveling through the air, there were frames where there wasn't a ball. But I wrote the game off for the most part, because he was an unproven and undrafted prospect that spent 2012 on our PS. Then he played the entire Eagles preseason game against a bunch of backups and I figured that I would watch the first quarter to see the flaws that limited action in the earlier games didn't show and then I'd go bone my wife and turn in early so we could head down to the coast for Sunday. I haven't watched an entire 4th preseason game since the early 2000s. My face was glued to my laptop for that supposedly irrelevant preseason game. I haven't even seen a Jets QB throw the ball as well as he did in that game. Not Chad, not 1998 Vinny, not KOB, nobody. I got excited and posted about it and had people tell me that it was because he was facing a bunch of backups. I cancelled my trip to the coast the next day and holed up in front of the big screen and re-watched the entire game to figure out what the he'll I had seen that could be explained away by backup players. He had defenders in his face the whole game and was throwing passes that would be impressive for a QB throwing from a clean pocket. He threw passes right into the bread basket in stride, threw a couple of great back shoulder throws... I think the most impressive part was that the playbook was limited into a game manager philosophy and he seems more like a gunslinger but was able to switch into game manager easily. He also threw behind players twice and the two scary passes into coverage that could have been returned by better players on the opposing team. So he does have flaws. But none explained by what players he was playing against. He was playing with backups as well, and elevated their game. Except for maybe Reuland, who is absolutely godawful. I have watched that game 3 more times since then. Trying to find why people think he sucks or only looked good because of posting against backups. I don't see it. I want to see this guy play. If only to prove that I missed something or that those throws were only thrown with the confidence that playing against backups will provide. I've gone into detail about what I have seen from him in that game, but I think I've gone on enough about this. People want Smith to be a diamond in the rough. I can't help but think they are settling for a garnet while the Black Star of Queensland is being used as a doorstop.
It sucks that he got hurt, especially since he more than likely wasnt going to play this year anyway. Even though I'm happy he will never play quarterback for the Jets again, it sucks that it was because of injury. He seems like a good guy, but he wasnt a quality QB given the surrounding talent IMO. Jets are currently doing the right thing, seeing what they have in Geno. He isnt the investment that Sanchez was financially or in a draft pick sense, so it will be easier to move on. After a season they can decide if they liked what they saw or if he was too mistake prone. I am curious whose decision it was to put Sanchez on the eligible for return IR. If it was Sanchez decision than I imagine the Jets arent happy about this. They lost their return from IR player now because of the surgery.
Now that Sanchez is completely out of the picture. I am eager to see how Geno plays in the dome...The two weather games sucked, road games have been piss poor. Lets see how the kid plays. Sanchez had no future here
What does Sanchez being "completely out of the picture" have to do with how Geno plays in a Dome. Sanchez has been out of the picture for weeks and was likely done forever here. I hope the spectre of Sanchez looking over his shoulder 10 weeks from now wasn't going to effect Geno's performance Monday night . _
Sanchez will succeed if he is surrounded by competent talent. You can not strip a QB of his weapons and expect him to succeed. Just look at Eli, he has lost his O line and now looks like absolute trash. Look at Flacco now that he lost some of his guys.... Sanchez lost his O line, Recievers, runningbacks etc. Thats why he struggled. I hope he finds a good spot and goes and finishes what he was unable to accomplish here.
Pretty soon we'll be hearing how Geno can't possibly perform without talented playmakers around him, a running game and a solid o-line. Wait, they're already saying that?!? _
Sanchez was never appreciated here because he was always viewed as the weak link to a Super Bowl team. Sanchez was screwed from day one, what rookie QB is expected to win the Super Bowl? ummm. Ironically though you can argue that in both championship games, the best player on the field for the Jets was Mark Sanchez. If he wasn't, he was a close second behind Revis.
That's the problem. Unless you find a QB that can elevate the performance of the players around them, you have to constantly find players who can elevate their performance.
There's gotta be a balance. There's gotta be SOME talent to rise up with--it can't all be Clyde Gates and Cumby and crap. Unless you're Brady. _
Only 2 QBs in this league can play with garbage. Brady and Manning. These so called "elite" qbs are now having major trouble now that they arent surrounded by top of the line talent.
