Do the Jets make an offer? 4th/5th round pick? http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24077085/team-preparing-bids-for-giants-wide-receiver-hakeen-nicks
I'd be happy to go over him in FA(provided the price is right) but we'd have to overpay in a trade. There's no way NYG trades him to us for anything other than a huge haul that he is not worth.
Another injury prone WR in a contract year for trade? No thanks. Hicks is never healthy and I wouldn't even pursue him in the FA.
Which also raises the question why are we signing Cribbs? He's Clyde Gates 2.0 but a worse route runner and ball catcher (not sure how that's even possible). Hoestly I'm not even optomistic that Holmes is ever truly "right" again, it just seems like he's going to be one of those guys that's getting bit by the injury bug for the rest of his career and he's going to be 30 in march. We're going to have to cut bait. So even if we draft a top talent in 2014 you're still talking about raw talent that will need at least a full season to get his NFL legs under him. For continuity sake wouldn't it only be smart for us to get a Gorgon or a Nicks now if we want to make a realistic push towards the postseason in 2014? If not and Holmes is still banged up or released that's Hill, Kerley, and a rookie WR starting in 2014, we're back in the same situation we are now signing Josh Cribbs. . .
If you want continuity, I suggest the Jets should look at two WRs and two TEs this upcoming draft. If anything, they can sign a low-tier TE / WR with upside to go along with those draftees for competition purposes.
this is a move tanny would be all over i dunno, might not seem worth it to idzik to give up a draft pick for a late season rental
shit, we might as well trade for Kenny Britt if we really want to go the injury-prone receiver route, he'd be a helluva a lot cheaper to re-sign.
Getting Nicks would be a great move for this team. He's the true number 1 we have been lacking for a long time. Only thing that worries me about him are his injury issues. He always seems to be dinged up. But as a player he would be a great addition to our team. I'd go as high as a 3.
He actually plays most games, but he plays hurt a lot and it often affects his performance. He's really talented when he's 100% but for the price he'll command in free agency, I don't think it'd be a smart signing.
My list of teams that could trade for him: Packers Niners Lions Patriots (unlikely though) Id much rather the Jets save a 4th rounder for a draft pick and draft an unproven receiver rather than trade the pick for a receiver that is nothing more than a band aid.
We signed him to be our KR as we lost our top 2 KRs in one game. We may have also have signed him to take Goodson's role in the wildcat.
Nicks had a down year last year and he's having an average year this year at best. Why anybody would think he's worth $12M a year in free agency is beyond me. Why anybody would think any WR is worth $12M a year is also beyond the pale. Championships aren't won out on the edge of the field. If they were then Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson would have at least one ring between them and the facts are that they don't. Think about that for a bit. Great WR's don't get rings any more. Why? The cap.
I'd much rather address the WR need in the draft, plenty of awesome kids who would be excellent for this team.
