Yessss!!!! ESPN reported last week that something was going to happen for us this week i guess this is what it was ! Happy to hear
First of all we all know that Coughlin had a rough season. But he's won two SB's. You don't really mean to suggest he is equivalent to Ryan. And the quote from Woody gave no indication it was anything but his decision. He didn't say we or anything like that. I would also point out that most owners know more about football than Woody. If the Rooneys decided to fire Mike Tomlin, at least you would know they know more about football than Woody does. In any event the issue is not whether Idzik has or should have "strict" hire/fire control. The issue is whether Woody makes these kinds of decisions solely on his own.
If the reports of the incentives are true, I am at least happy about that. Gives me the feeling Johnson isn't as much in love with Rex as it has seemed. I wanted to move on, but I'm not going to get pissed off over something that was rather inevitable considering Woody Johnson is running this team. I will say though, I would never hate the move as much as I hate seeing fellow Jets fans celebrating like I've seen on here. You'd think this team won something... nope just extending their mediocre coach...
Stability and defense-wise I'm happy... but boy does Rex need to become a better HC. Oh well, I'm happy for him and I really hope stability brings this team what it currently lacks.
I htink what you are saying is based on reports that the contract is not guaranteed after 2015 if no playoff appearances. If true that takes some of the sting off of this. Having said that I have no doubt Woody loves him some Rex.
Fans like you deserve to be locked in a room with a TV looping the entire Charles in Charge series while wearing a Scott Baio mask.
I haven't seen it reported anywhere. Cimini is saying that there's an easy out for the Jets if Rex doesn't succeed, but money/years for Rex if he does win so both sides win. Sounds like Rex traded guaranteed money for length/potential to gain the money through playoff incentives. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/34624/rapid-reaction-rex-gets-security It sounds like a solid deal to avoid lame duck but to avoid saying Rex is the definitely the answer
basically the earliest he would be fired would be after the 2015 season barring a disastrous 2014 year. we'll be winning by then, he'll be around for a little while longer.
Yeah if 2014 is disastrous, there's an out. If he wins the SB or 2014/2015 the contract pays him a lot I bet and he sticks around for 2016 which of course I would imagine we'd lock him up for longer
Like I already posted in this thread, this is nothing more than window dressing and a move to keep the media hacks at bay next year. However if Rex has a shitty year and doesn't make the playoffs the Jets could easily dump him still and they should if they're smart. 4 straight non playoff seasons (especially when that HC has no SB rings) demands a change at the top so we'll see how it plays out.
General manager John Idzik said he and Ryan have worked well since Idzik arrived a year ago and have the same vision for the team. "Rex is a phenomenal teacher and motivator. We are fortunate to have him as our head coach," Idzik said this afternoon. "The front office, coaches, players, this entire organization — we’re all in this together. We are all governed by the same motives and that is to build a perennial winner here with the Jets.” Sounds like their all on the same page. I doubt we'll be pegged to win 3 games by the prescient media scribes next year.
except by some jerk at walter football convinced we'll pick first overall in 2015... 6-9 win margin should be the mark we're looking at, but then we don;t know what the team will be made up of.
Unless Woody and Rex are running the draft and FA and putting Idzik in the telephone closet, then I agree that we should be pegged for between 8-9 wins next year.
