I've never seen anything that suggested he wanted a different coach brought in except for speculation by people who have papers to sell. Anybody who thinks that Ryan didn't do a damn fine job coaching this year is plain wrong. For all his flaws, few coaches currently in the game could wring 8 wins out of this squad....and Idzik knows that.
Idzik may very well believe every word he said, but you're kidding yourself if you think he'd say something negative about the deal after his boss just inked it.
Kinda silly argument. First of all, look at the offensive roster. There is NO ONE on that side of the ball with high potential to turn into a stud (that wasn't a rookie), aside from Hill. He has been the only talent drafted in recent years that could potentially be a playmaker at of the skill positions. Rex has NEVER said he has no clue of how an offense works. No coach would ever say that, ever. I'm sure he has only ever stated the obvious, which is he's a damn good coach and one of the best defensive minds in football, that's his forte and there isn't anything wrong with that as long as you produce at your forte exceptionally well. Which he always does, every year. To say he had nothing to do with Richardson being good is fucking stupid. The best talent in the world won't do shot if they are not put into positions to be successful. Ignorant statement, especially when you literally have zero clue on what happens behind the scenes, in the locker room, meeting rooms, film room and practice. You don't have an inside source to make a statement as full of it as that. You are the one looking foolish, you are completely excluding his first two years which produced well above expectations and were delightful seasons to watch. He was obviously above .500 those two years, .500 two years, and only ONE below .500 season. One. If you were to average that shit out it would not be defined as mediocre. Especially with the talent we've had the past three years, it's absolutely amazing he has gotten so much from this talent deprived team. It's laughable to consistently ignore all the good that Rex has given this team and fan base. You do reward someone if you see that he is exceeding the expectations that are given to said employee. In many peoples eyes he has earned every some he's made and he has gotten the most out of this team which would lead many people to believe he is an over achiever and someone that will bring great things their company if they ride it out with said employee. The guy had proven that he can make us winners, relevant, contenders, consistently good defense and a coach that every player in the league would love to play for. Why would you want a guy like that to be fired?
8-8, 6-10, 8-8 the last three years, and people think he is second coming of Vince Lombardi. I have never seen an organization and a fan base so SATISFIED with mediocrity. From reading the reaction on this board, I thought we signed a super bowl winning coach, not one who has the jets 4 games UNDER .500 the last three years. But we have CONTINUITY, right? Who cares if Rex hasn't delivered a winning season in forever, we HAVE continuity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have been and will remain CONTINUALLY mediocre under Rex. And after 2-3 MORE years of mediocrity, let's extend Rex again and preserve our CONTINUITY!!!!!!!!!!!! Just when I thought Idzik had a clue.
I am not a huge fan of Ryan either, but he gives us something we need desperately. Stability. If we had an established QB, if there was a Chip Kelly out there or we had a couple of SBs in the trophy case, maybe things would be different. But right now we are building our house on the ground, hire a new coach and that could easily become quicksand.

Haters gon hate.. Rex is where he belongs. Majority of the fan base, team players, and organization LOVE rex and theres plenty of reason for it. Who cares what some odd ball grumpy jets fan that expects perfection from a shitty ass roster has to say honestly. Have some patience.. were rebuilding and exceeding expectations at the same damn time. a combination of Idzik's great scouting and Rex's great leadership and defense with M&M at OC and ALL THIS MONEY FOR NEW PLAYERS and ALLTHESE DRAFT PICKS in a pretty strong draft class is just looking like all the key things to get us back into the playoffs next year. This is great news...

For the right price, any coach would be available. Especially one wanting to prove himself at the highest level for the first time. This is a Woody infatuation, plain and simple.

This has been debated time and time again. Rex is the head coach and to sit there and act like he has no responsibility for the offense is pretty stupid. Maybe this offense wouldnt be as terrible if the head coach wasnt clueless when it came to offense? He has even admitted as much and it isnt like im just saying it as an opinion. He has said that he isnt too concerned with the offensive side of the ball and the results show. This has been one of the most inept offenses in the league since Favre left and Ryan took over. Those stats speak for themselves. You can sit there all day long and blame the GM but Rex is the head coach and deserves equal blame for the offense as well. If he is such a great football mind, why is his defense going downhill every year since year 1? They were even middle of the pack last year. His blitz no longer get to any QBs. Would you still be singing the same tune if the Pats didnt giftwrap that 2nd game and if the that moron from TB doesnt hit Geno out of bounds? Luck was indeed on Rex and the Jets side this year. While Rex may of exceeded expectations the last year, the team was way below expectations the previous 2 years. Rex still has the same faults now that he had in year 1. Nothing about the guy has changed to show anyone that the results in the future will change. If any of you seriously trust Rex with revamping the offense, you have another thing coming....
Let me see, the defense (the only thing he is good at teaching) was the worst that it has been in his 5 years. The pass defense was absolute garbage. The pass rush is still so so. The team managed to squeak out 8 wins when they should of only won 6 games. You can only blame the "team" for so long before you look at the top and the coaches coaching these players to place blame as well. He deserves a ton of blame for the offense as well. He gets no get out of jail card for that. The whole "no coaching" thing is just sad and the only thing you resort to. You need to get some new material because if everyone thought like you, there would never be any turn around for new coaches because every team except 1-2 would be too afraid to give someone else a shot. What games were you watching to determine the future is bright? The team has a QB who was a bottom 3 this year, no receivers, a running back who is good but very injury prone, no tight ends, and an offensive line that is average at best. Constantly watching bottom 8-10 offenses year in and year out is becoming a constant thing with Ryan at the helm....
What is the goal in the NFL? To win the Super Bowl. In the entire history of the NFL only 29 head coaches have accomplished that goal. In the last decade alone the league has seen over 100 coaches get hired and only 8 have won it. The fact of the matter is hiring a coach that will win the Super Bowl is pretty much a crapshoot. The one common factor though of all those Super Bowl winning coaches that have won it over the last decade is that they have all been apart of their teams for 6+ years. Some won it early, some later, but the common factor amongst winning head coaches is the longevity. So will Rex win a Super Bowl? I cant answer that but I can say this, there isnt a coach in this league right now that has a Super Bowl Ring that hasnt been with their team for at least 6 years....
Consensus-building is all about getting on-board with the moves that the organization as a whole have endorsed. It's a valuable process for any organization and it leads to the best results in most cases. Once the consensus is established the agendas, assuming there were any, fade away and everybody devotes themselves to making the decision that was reached as successful as possible.
