I took a lot of flak over saying that this wasn't the year of the run. Looking at the new roster and such, the tea leaves seem to be falling away from 2014. Even Idzik wasn't all in as he stashed over $20mil for next year's cap instead of spending it this season on FA's. So, I ask all the folks who were so giddy about our SB/PO chances this season. Given our situation in total, do you still feel that way or would you be willing to wait another season or two?
I think a postseason appearance this year would be gravy, but I think the organization will start to make big steps towards competing for a title next year. That being said, if the bottom falls out and Rex is canned, who knows what would happen.
I honestly don't know what to think anymore,it sucks to because all other positions are pretty solid right now and one of the most important ones may cause a small hole in the ship and cause it to sink and sink fast
I still think 8 to 11 wins. It may be an overall improvement in play that leads to the same 8-8 as last year or the Jets could get lucky for a change and see things bounce their way for more wins and a possible playoff shot.
Sneak in the playoffs this year. Lose in first or second round. Idzik signs Darelle Revis. Drafts two more studs. Solidifies the secondary and picks up another solid WR in free agency. Jets win Super Bowl 7 times in a row.
Well, I think anyone who thought we were making the Superbowl this year had to be on drugs, but the playoffs, while certainly not an easy thing to get to this year, are still not out of the realm of possibility. Ultimately, we are rebuilding under a new GM, and I am pretty happy where we are now as opposed to couple of years ago. The team is much, much younger and more talented all around, and we don't really have that many holes to plug. The big question is if Geno demonstrates this year that he is our QB of the future, which would be huge. If he isn't, we still have that huge QB hole to fill, but other than that, we only need a quality corner (or two, depending on Milliner's health) as a glaring need. That's not that bad for a team that a couple of years ago had barely anything. As far as this year, I think people are writing off the season too fast. I have no idea how we will do, we could suck, but we could also do well. There are just too many questions right now to know anything for sure. If Milliner comes back and plays healthy and the way he did in December/first preseason game, and Allen can handle the second CB spot, our secondary (with Pryor and Landry) could suddenly look much better. Also, we have no clue how our pass rush will work. Will Richardson become a factor in pass rushing? Will Barnes come back and pick up where he left off last year? Will Coples put together a solid year? What will Babin do? If these guys can take it to the next level (think of the game against the Saints last year), maybe our secondary won't even matter that much. And then of course, there are all the question about Geno and the offense. So sit back and enjoy the season, guys, cause right we don't really have a clue.
This team should be pretty good. Super Bowl, I don't think it's in the cards; but get to the playoffs and anything will happen. We have a professional caliber team. Stout defense with or without a solid, true, corner. And it's going to be a much better offense with a hell of a ground attack. We have strong, vet, character players and a lot of young talent. This is a team that will compete. Fuck New England
No one got released today that would make me change my opinion on the Jets winning 10 games this year. If any fan feels any more of less confident after today's cuts Id love to know why. Patterson showed nothing in the few snaps he played. Hill the same. There are players currently on the wire that can come in and produce more than they would. No question about that.
Jimmy Gorappolo will reign as Super Bowl champion for years to come when Tom Brady goes down. He will overtake the throne of the AFC East and we will forever regret not drafting him! Although he went way too high for us. Damnit!! I wanted that fucker!
weeks 2-7..green bay, chicago, detroit, san diego, denver, new england..all have great QBs and/or great WRs...explain how we win any of those games with the CBs we have now? Rex will have to reach for miracles to win even two of them.
This is such a doom and gloom thread. We will have a good season this year, do I anticipate a SB, no. We will be extremely competitive though and with am improved offense I am happy about our situation goin into the season. Remember we are playing very vanilla schemes in the preseason, it's not the end I the world. Things will look much different on Sundays. Also, our long term is looking very promising as well. I agree with all of the cuts tht were made, they truly stuck to the best man mantra and Idzik isn't afraid to cut someone that isn't the best for this team. Hill, Gates, Simms were great cuts. It shows that they understand the value they have at other positions and kept guys like Barnes over these players that would barely contribute to this team. I'm happy with this team. Can't wait to watch what they do this year.
My position hasn't changed. We don't have the talent in all areas of the team to make a run. We have gotten better... so has everyone else. Our punter has been leaving teams at the 50, I haven't seen anyone do anything special on punt or KO returns. Our O-line is still to be tested along with our QB. Our D-line looks solid, behind them is anyone guess. Pryor has already been hurt, Milliner is hurt, Allen could be 1 hit away from missing more games... 09-10 we won a few games on special teams play, we won a few on defensive play and we won some on offensive play. I don't know if this team can win a lot with just 2 units playing average ball. I think our secondary could give up 25+ points a game, I don't know if our offense can hang with that. I think we lose the punt field position every game from what I have seen, leaving our D with a short field. Hope I'm wrong.
3 great QBs and 3 good QBs............Chargers can be beat and Bears defense is horrible we should have a field day running the ball that game
Objectively speaking the jets are an average team that could finish with anywhere from 7-9 wins depending on how things break. They are not super bowl contenders, they aren't ready to snatch the division away from the Patriots (although I could conceivably see them beating NE head to head at least once) and realistically they are a year away from being sure fire playoff contenders. However, they aren't some down and out team that will be lucky to finish with 5 wins either, they're a tenacious bunch with some smart coaching and developing young talent that could sneak into the post season if things go correctly. The biggest obstacle in the way of gang green's success is in just how quickly their young talent develops, namely Dee Milliner, Calvin Pryor, Jace Amaro and most importantly Geno Smith. if those guys have a good year, and all the other known quantities like Decker and the front seven do as well, the jets can reasonably be seen as playoff contenders. If not things will just be mediocre overall. I wouldn't even expect a horrible top 5 pick worthy season should things be at their worse, that doesn't seem possible under Ryan's regime as even the worse squads of 2012-13 didn't do THAT poorly. The worse that'll happen to the jets is that they come into next offseason with a bit of a base to build off with their front seven, but lingering question with their secondary and QB position. (and they'll have loads of cash to help with that process) Its a team building to the future with an opportunity to make a splash right now, but only if things go absolutely right. It sounds wishy washy but its what it is, we're somewhere between rebuilding and contending, with better odds at progressing a bit more at a few spots than regressing more.
Idzik will never go "all in" the way Tannenbaum did in 2010. I am perfectly fine with that though. Both approches have their benefits, they also have their negatives to. Tannenbaum giving up draft picks for expiring contracts is what did him in, it worked for 2010, but when 2012 came and we had no depth, and had big contracts on or cap space that limited our signings, we were screwed. Do I believe Idzik will put together a roster as good as Tannenbaum assembled in 2010? unlikely, but Idzik wont put a roster out there as bad as the roster was in 2012 either.
