I agree about their d, but young guys are still nobody; until they prove that they are somebody. The pats are ripe for the taking. Their offense has some serious issues if any of the previously mentioned guys go down. Brady, is a big trust guy; there are few players, right now, on his offense that he trusts.
Its clear you dont know a thing about football, I am not surprised though. And I dont need a crystal ball, anyone with a brain would realize the chances anyone drafts as good as Seattle did are very very very small.
This is not madden football that's why, a fumble, an interception, a 40 yard run by CJ, too many variables to mention that affect a game. A great QB playing against the jets is not an automatic 400 yard game. My only concern is Rex's propensity for being blitz happy, if he can balance that out with some disguised zone coverage, I believe it will keep the jets in these games that some guys are assuming the jets will be blown out in. JMO
Wow really people? The guy had a few good games in PRESEASON and your ready to claim him the next great QB?
We'll know by the end of week 8. if the team is 4-4 or better at that point they'll almost certainly reach the playoffs. The problem is in those first 8 weeks there are only 3 "easy" teams, the Raiders, the Chargers, Bills. the other 5 games are uphill struggles. The problem is the jets corners are banged up, and not established as good to start with. If Milliner is ready to go then the teams #1 CB (barring signings) is a converted Safety in Allen....and even he may not be clear to go (I haven't read one way or the other on either player)..if that's the case Kyle Wilson is the #1 Corner...It's not pretty.
Not wishing any bad on Geno, as a matter of fact he has shown smarts and improvement. Geno certainly has all the supporting cast surrounding him to help become, like I said in post, a Russell Wilson and I hope he succeeds as the next great QB. Then we all win as team and fans. That said. Jimmie Garappolo was a very talented QB in college (broke Romos records) and under Bellicheks tutelage will have at LEAST as good rookie year as Smith. Hmmm..a starting job with BB and Tom Brady schooling me , THAT'S a position with small downsize risk and the road to good things.
Anyone who thought we were going to the Super Bowl this year was out to lunch. I like the idea of building a contender and we have some really good pieces in place. My hope is that we have a good year and at least push for a playoff spot (I doubt we get one though), that we are able to keep our core together and then next offseason can fill some of our major holes through FA and draft (most notably CB) and next year be a pretty good squad. Now this all basically hinges of Geno proving this year that he is unquestionably a starter in the NFL, which I so far we have no reason to believe he wont' do. If he isn't the guy then we're pretty much fucked and back to square one. If Geno can be the guy and we have to add a deep threat WR, improve at CB and maybe upgrade Oline if necessary (I think our pass rush will be fine but if not then that as well) then we should definitely be able to make the playoffs, maybe even take the division with a declining Patriots and (hopefully) nothing too exciting from the Dolphins and Bills.
Who in their right mind thought 2014 was a all in year! Hilarious, am nobody knows if Idzik's approach will payoff, hell he could just be another Sandy Alderson
I'm still going with 10-6 this season. I don't think winning those close games last season was a fluke - we gained valuable experience last year as a young team.
Who has Bill Belichick or Brady ever tutored that has become successful? The BB coaching tree is filled with failure and no Brady back up had amounted to anything.
Yeah Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallet, and Matt Cassel. Those 3 guys learned so much from Belichick - they are currently tearing up the league right now! It's funny, Jet fans still think the Patriots have some sort of aura about them that each time a player goes to NE, the player becomes some prodigy.
The success of this team (this season) will be measured by more than just 'SB or bust': 1- Can 2nd year QB Geno Smith show command of the huddle, poise, NOT make terrible decisions, win games with this arm and his feet? Will Geno show significant growth over what he showed last season? If he can, then year 3 for Geno could be huge, and a big part of this season will be a success. 2- Will our 'best running attack in the NFL' mean anything? Can we keep those big bad QB's on the sidelines with TOP? Can our running game dominate Defenses that have morphed to keep up with passing attacks? Can our running game close out teams in the 4th qtr? If the Jets can produce a Curtis Martin-esq running attack, that will be another success. 3- Will our new WR core show promise? Can Decker/Nelson/Kerley/Amaro compliment our running game, put up points, and erase all questions about our WR group for next season? If so, another huge success. 4- Can our offense put up 20-30 pts/game with regularity? 5- Can Pryor, a rookie, have any positive affect on our secondary overall? There's so many plot lines with the Jets this season. They need to show significant growth in so many areas. If they do, then 2014 will be a success and TGG will be buzzing about our possibilities in 2015 and beyond. Throw in a PO appearance this season and wow....icing on the cake.
And again Mangolden, the Jets dont need to be Seattle. If they can draft well enough to be a consistent playoff team, that is all we need. If you keep getting in the playoffs, you will eventually crack through, ask the Giants, Steelers, or Ravens. The Giants made it 4 straight years, but on the third year they won it all. The Ravens went to the playoffs 5 straight years and in the 5th year they broke through. Tannenbaum put together a very good team but he was trading away draft picks, and trading for expiring contracts, it eventually caught up to him when he had big contracts on the books, little draft picks to use, and no cap space to spend. Its easy to say it was a bad model in hindsight, but had the Jets beaten the Steelers, and won Super Bowl 45, no one here would be bitching about the good moves he was making.
