Snacks was also part of "the last 6 years" draft class and he now plays for another team like most Jets homegrown stars with the exception of The O line and David Harris its been guys coming and going from year to year
Name a Jets trade for a draft pick that has actually paid off.The Revis one didn't really matter ,We still could have drafted Richardson at 9 instead of Dee Millner who is one of the latest Jets draft busts.People seem to think because we get a draft pick for Wilkerson if we trade him that automatically means the guy who we draft is gonna play at the same level,We are one of the worst drafting teams in the NFL I have zero faith in a Wilk trade for a pick.I would be on board if it was for another player of his caliber but not a pick unless there's a franchise QB involved
John Abraham for #29 overall Nick Mangold worked put pretty well. It's the only comparable situation outside of Revis for #9 overall Dee Milliner. We're 1 for 2 with what appears to be a much better drafting GM this time around.
yeah, i mean maybe he isnt quite as good as fitz. maybe he doesnt have quite the chemistry fitz does. but at 4 years younger and at 1/3 to 1/2 the price to me im calling the texans every day to try and make it happen. i know he isnt favre but he does have a bit more arm strength then fitz, which could offset some of the chemistry. He has had some really good stretches of play. id take the chance on him. offer a performance based 4th-7th and call it a day
a less mobile fitz. he is a gutsy player. very composed. a bit better arm but not a slinger. tough kid with a chip on his shoulder
or, we could trade the only dlineman slated to make 15+ million, rebuildin the draft while our other guys our on their rookie deals, and create an infrastructure where when the next guys deal is up we can pay him without worrying about it,
if you dont draft well, it doesnt matter anyway. drafting is how you compete in the NFL. if We keep wilkerson and Mac drafts as poorly as his predecessors we will continue to get worse anyhow. You dont turn down draft picks because the last 2 GM's sucked at drafting. you make the smart moves, you believe in your scouting and staff and you move forward. Signing Mo to a big deal is the kind of move you look back at in 3 years when he is 28 and the jets still failed to make the playoffs and you say "WTF was our GM thinking". Like realistically if we cave on fitz and mo ill be here in 3 years and people will be like "we gave 35 million to a washed up glorified backup and a DE on a team that couldnt even make the playoffs"
Revis was more for Milliner. Had we kept Revis, I think we would have taken Richardson ninth overall. Milliner was a blatant need pick.
I hated losing Snacks. You're talking about a few guys tho. It's pathetic how bad are drafts were. Our core just isn't good enough anymore There's a rollover in the cap era, and you have to have talent coming in and a salary structure to accommodate that process. We've had shit coming in forever. It's gotta be reset. It's obvious now I'm holding out hope that Petty can evolve. And Mac can restock as Petty becomes capable of competing with his peers in the next generation of players in the NFL. You draft well and you compete. It's that simple
Good post OP. Well thought out. Restructuring Brick and Mangold is key to relieving cap space but I don't think Brick will cut anymore than $2 mil and mangold $1 mil. That gives $3 mil in cap relief. I don't think Decker and Marshall will take any cut, both earned their money last season, they were a top 3 WR duo in the league. Cutting Breno and Winters I feel is a must they both are struggling out there. That gives approximately another $5 mil. So that roughly is $8 mil in added space from cuts and adjustments. Not bad.... Trading Mo is an option if the price is right... If some team wants to give us a top 10 guard and a 1st for Mo it will be a hard deal to pass up. That type of deal could be 9-12 mil in cap space.
to me the savings and cuts on the oline dont really save you money... if we cut breno and winters we need 2 new starting lineman. and your probably going to spend close to the 5 million you saved cutting them.
Great post . Could be a prediction of what actually transpires: Mo gets traded, Hoyer is our new QB, not sure what we do about Ferguson. The Jets are just about out of money so some big restructures will be on deck but who Mac chooses will be up to him which is the best news in years for this team
Remember we almost signed Hoyer last off season. The interest was there. He chose the Texans over us.
