It would be interesting to watch him read Guerrilla Warfare by Che Guevara on the bench after he lost his job. But I'd still pass.

Colin Kaepernick would come cheap, and he has a higher ceiling than any quarterback currently on our roster, and any other free agent qb the Jets are considering as thier bridge qb. The question you ask yourself, is the juice worth the squeeze? Meaning is his talent worth the national anthem baggage from this past season? Maybe for a 1 year vet min deal...with that said we are not the franchise to take that chance. He's publicly hated as much as Michael Vick was coming back into the league with the Eagles.

No one out there that can really justify any money. We need to rebuild the OL, and get more young bodies. Hopefully one of our QB's can handle the job. If not next year's draft.

"Best case" if they signed Kaepernick is that he lives up to his potential and beats the other guys out, but given his streakiness, never gets them to a SB, thus preventing the Jets from that long awaited championship for as long as he's here. And of course, if he does do that well this year, they'll sign him to an expensive extension that will eat up cap space, and also they'll win enough games to always be in draft purgatory.

"Worst case" is that he continues his antics, and the NY fans crucify him, and he sucks, so that even if he was signed cheap, it would still eat up resources.

I just don't see any good coming from signing him.

I don't see the need for a Vet Qb on the roster at all. I'm not sure how much more "mentoring" the FO/CS thinks Petty and Hack need but at this point, they need more real game snaps than mentoring. This isn't at all like Rodgers on the bench behind Farve. This is a team doing a complete rebuild needing to see what they have at every position on the field. The more time Hack/Petty get behind center, the closer to an answer at QB we'll be in the long run.

The ambassador to Britain isn't going to let this anthem kneeling jackoff of a distraction be the face of the Jets.

I agree with you however we're probably going to sign one I would think. It really makes no sense as I too want to see what both Petty and Hack have a for a full season. We're expected to suck anyway so might as well roll with what you got before finding a longer term solution after next season.

The difference between McCown and Kaepernick, besides age, is that McCown is a backup and Kaepernick is a starter. I don't mind if they sign McCown because he isn't coming here to start. If they sign Kaepernick, it means he'll most likely be the starter and that's a problem. I don't care about his on-field political statements. This is America and everyone has the right to express their views. I only care if he can play football. Nevertheless, he would be an accomplished veteran (he did take a team to the SB) coming to a team with a roster depleted of veterans. I don't think he is a good candidate to rebuild a football team around. For what it's worth, I would feel the same about Nick Foles who I thought was the best FA QB on the market.

Looks like Jets are going after McClown, not Kaep. ALTHOUGH there may be some 'quiet' looks going Kaep's way. We just had a WR who played the last 4 yrs for the 9ers in for a 'visit'. Why would Macc do that? Maybe we need another WR? Or maybe Macc as digging for a little more insight into Kaep?

The Giants just re-signed some scrub back up QB on the same day they extended JPP ($40M). Connection? Turns out the scrub QB and JPP share the same agent, so I KNOW there was some eye-winking going on there. What does this have to do with Kaep? I don't know who his agent is, or who else that agent handles, but if some team is in talks with a FA or a player that shares the same agent with Kaep, that team may have to bring Kaep in 'for a look' just to help out other negotiations. A favor to an agent (and to Kaep) so to speak.

Does anyone know who Kaep's agent is, and if that same agent handles any of our star players?

Kaepernick was decent when the 49ers were stacked with talent, and crappy when they weren't. He doesn't make other players better, but he's not awful and does have some upside. He's your typical "game manager" QB. While I wouldn't be opposed, I'd rather just avoid the distractions with him.

I don't understand calling a QB who sucks at throwing the football and shows consistent bad judgment a game manager. My idea of your typical game manager is Alex Smith, Chad Pennington, etc. Guys who take few chances, minimize turnovers. That's just not Kaep.

the problem with his ceiling is,although it may the highest of the available, it is not high enough. kaep was good on a completely loaded team

The notion that a QB is good, but only on a talented team applies to pretty much every QB in the last 20 years not named Peyton, Brady or Favre. But don't forget, Alex Smith pretty much had the same talent and couldn't take the team anywhere, so we know Kaepernick is better than Alex Smith. In addition, Kaepernick has taken a team further than any Jets QB since Namath. That has to mean something to a franchise that has been living in QB hell for almost 50 years.

Alex Smith took the 49ers to the NFC championship and would have gotten to the SB if Kyle Williams hadn't blown it. Also Smith was playing very well when Harbaugh switched to Kap, so for all I know, he might have won the SB.

When Kaep had to make a throw he came up short. Of course now we have to hear all the bs about his stances and that's the reason he's not wanted. I sincerely doubt Andy Reid would rather have Kaep manage his O over Smith
