I'd rather have Harbaugh as our HC. There are a ton of retired football players who would probably make good Presidents of Football Operations, but not a lot of HCs who are experienced and good in the NFL running around. I think he likes coaching, and probably wouldn't be interested in an administrative job, but if he were, I'm sure that he'd probably do a very good job. Who would be hired as HC? Even though DeFilippo seems to have done good work with Wentz, that's only one QB, and he has no experience as a HC. I'm sick of the novice HCs that have to learn on the job. If hiring Harbaugh as Pres. of Football Operations meant that we'd have to have another novice HC, I'd be dead set against it. I want an experienced HC above all else. If we do get a novice HC, then I want an experienced OC and DC, no first-timers there.
I'm pretty sure that Mangini had lost the team by the end of the season. I think they would have rebelled if Mangini had been back.
I wouldn't have any problem hiring Mangini as Pres. of Football Operations since he did seem to have a pretty good eye for talent and knew how to build a football team. I think he would recognize a good HC, and for sure he wouldn't put up with the penalties, sloppy play, and inconsistent play. My main fear with him is that he wouldn't get along with Harbaugh and would probably even lean towards hiring a former DC as HC.
I remember Favre tore a tendon in his shoulder and tanked the back end of the season to keep his consecutive game playing streak alive. I'm pretty sure you're right players probably did hate Mangini. I think Woody fired him because of the way the Jets folded. Favre won a lot of games for the team that year but he blew chunks down the stretch.
You went right for the low hanging fruit on that one. I expect a better analysis of that failure of a season from you sir....
Whoever,if anyone,is hired for next year is walking in to some big time pressure to win immediately. 2nd year blue chip prospect qb and 90 mil in space? There’s really not going to be much of a honeymoon period. Next years a win now year regardless of who is here
Whoever it is better be focused on building a top flight offense. The teams that win consistently generally rank high in rush yards and points scored. Pretty sure it’s always been that way with a few standout defenses bucking the trend. The Jets almost made it happen that way a couple times, but why try to be different? Top 10 ground game and top 10 passing game, consistently. Sure it’s easier said then done, but is it any harder then trying to win with one of the best defenses in the league (which isn’t happening consistently anyway)? Give me points damnit.
The league decided years ago that the best way to keep fans engaged is to have high scoring games. They've changed the rules, and how the rules are enforced to achieve this result. Trying to buck that edict is a fool's errand. Ever wonder why games that are low scoring at the half, all of sudden become shoot outs in the 2nd half? It's not coincidence, it's manipulation. If you don't have an offense that can take advantage of this, you're screwed. Defenses are neutralized to open up scoring. So the Jets persistent quest to build a "shut down defense" is doomed to failure. It's long past time they woke up and realized this.
Why do you keep mentioning Woody's son? Do you know something we don't? Is his kid running the team or even making any suggestions regarding anything other than concession operations? For the record: Woody Johnson has two sons - both under the age of ten.
Favre's arm was just a small piece of the puzzle, but If you can honestly tell me you weren't screaming at all the asinine play calling and game "planning" that season, I might agree with you..... or I might call you NYJUNC
Favre had 2 TD and 9 INT's in the last 5 games of that season. He had 21 TDs and 21 INT's that year. It's a math problem that points to Favre.
No argument there at all, but when you know your QB has an injured arm, have one of the the best running games in the league and you're playing a team with a battered front 7 in wind and snow, and aren't running the ball down their throats until they show they can stop it; that falls on the coaches. That whole season was a story of attacking the opposing teams strengths as opposed to weaknesses "Hey, they'll never expect this"
Your wish may come sooner than you think imo How embarrassing is it for the Johnsons to see these 2 fools they extended be outmaneuvered and out coached...Bowles gets outcoached by H Jackson ..Can you imagine what Marrone/Coughlin will do to him on Sunday??? Mac can hang his hat on getting Darnold but the rest of his deals for this team are iffy at best ...we cultured Teddy like a pearl and Mac only gets a third for him?? Not saying a first from NO but why not a second since they are ready fro a SB run this year!?
They did stop it. We ran the ball 25 times and couldn't score. Sometimes when you fall behind and the game is ticking away you have to throw the ball.
Cannot believe last offseason they gave McIdiot and McToilet 2 year extensions after back to back 5-11 records. What did Einstein is the defiintion of Insanity? Doing the same thing...
