Ok too much humor. Sorry. Anyway a real plan. 1. Our own free agents resign Anderson between 12-14 million. Figure similar to Tyrell Williams but with cap going up and another year he'll make more. Resign Poole. Played well for us and is a good slot. Not sure how much but he'd be nice to have back. Resign Beachum and have him compete at left and right tackle. If he doesn't win the job he is a great backup piece. Those are my top three. Might be missing another player or two to resign but my top three picks. 2. Free agency: Don't overspend. Sign guys coming off the fourth year of their rookie deal. Players that have shown promise but won't break the bank in money. Example I am all for Sherf. Just don't want to pay an extra 5-10 million to get him. Bring in as many offensive linemen as you can. Bring in young and hungry receivers. Much like what the Bills did last year. 3. Draft: Today we are at 7. Today I lean towards Thomas from Georgia. I love the idea of Lamb but with other receivers later in the draft I'll get the tackle. That being said and if we are lucky maybe we are in a spot to trade back and get more picks I'd like that too knowing how many holes we have to fill. Overall I do believe with a good offseason this team can get to be an 8 win team next year and continue to build. That being said I fear Douglas can get the right pieces but Gase won't know what to do with it and that would hurt us.
I think Dillon is going to shoot up the board if/when he runs a good 40 for a guy that's 245 pounds. I'd take him in a heart beat but I think he's more of an early third/late second depending on how he works out. I hope we can trade down. With Maccagnan I forgot what a trade down was. He would also get raped in the middle rounds on any sort of trade down we did. And pickup like a conditional 7th to a team maneuvering in the third like an asshat. I really hope Tua falls to us and the couple non QB interested teams in front of us are set on the player they want.
Ideas on how to use him better? Or are we going to use the vague approach? He's been needed to pass block a ton. It'd also help if he didn't jog his routes from time to time. We could split him out some more for sure. I don't really like the idea of leaving him on an island back there with Powell though, who isn't the greatest pass blocker in the world. Or trying to block with Wesco again. That ended poorly. His receiving useage is about on par with what his career numbers are. Slightly down in a couple categories but he's getting the ball.
I think Dillon will fall to at least the 3rd. Most view him as a fullback type. I think he could play that role bit also be a great power back. As for the Maccagan drafts he was horrible at every aspect. Couldn't trade down worth a crap in any round and could draft a decent player or player that fit our scheme to save his life. Be nice to get 2 first from Miami, Oakland, or Jacksonville for Tua or whoever is available at 7. But I think we could easily get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
Do you want me to email you the playbook for him, or do I have to embed it here? Seriously, I'm not the HC, Gase is. And he's SUPPOSED to be an offensive whiz, but somehow he hasn't been able to figure out how to employ a HOF RB. And note, I'm not saying he should be coming up with ways for Bell to duplicate the numbers he's had when he played on a good team, but certainly he could be producing better than he has. Except...Gse doesn't like him and didn't want him, and has a reputation for burying guys he doesn't like.
No, but it's not unreasonable to have a discussion on player useage and how they could better be used without resorting to "IDK, that's why he's the coach!!!!!" How is he burying him? He's getting the ball a ton. He could be better used. When he has gotten the ball in space he hasn't been super effective. He's also drawing a ton of attention as he's the best threat we have. They highlighted it on Thursday night. When he ran a swing pattern, the Ravens ran two defenders towards him which helped open the middle up. He had the luxury of having a HOF quarterback throwing the ball to him and was flanked by a HOF receiver. It opens up a lot of space on the field. Now he's the only guy beyond a couple #3 receivers. I keep hearing "not using him correctly." I want to know what everyone believes the correct way to use him is beyond getting the ball in his hands as much as possible.
No way is this team dealing with Miami to possibly land them a franchise QB that will haunt them from the same division for the next decade.
Try designing plays to get the ball in his hands when he has room to do something. Look at how BB was able to get Edelman the ball even when everyone knew the ball was going to him. Or, use him as a decoy if he's drawing that much attention and get the ball to the open guy. Or on a broader level, look at what great coaches do when they don't have the players they prefer: they do like Bill Walsh did and invent an entire new offense. You want t drag this down into the "trees" of individual plays, when it's all about the "forest" of failure Gase is lost in.
I think you're wrong on all accounts. I think we will deal with Miami just like we dealt wiyh NE this year. And I don't think Tua will stay healthy to haunt us for the next decade. I hope he does as I don't like to see athletes hurt. But I doubt itm
Right. The bigger picture guy who wants to fire the coach after 14 games. Edelman is a completely different player, quick as hell and Brady fires the ball into the ground at him because he's the best in the league at catching it there. It's a little bit easier to move Edelman around. That's the point I'm trying to make. You can't get Bell in space because he's the key player to stop on the Jets and really the only one. He had tons of room in Pittsburgh because there was incredible spacing due to other targets. He played with two receivers who combined for 159 catches, 2,450 yards in 2017 and a top 5 offensive line. Don't forget that Pittsburgh has always had tightends that can block. You think he didn't have more room to operate than he does here with Jameson Crowder and the four backups he's playing with in front of him? But I'm sure that's all a result of the the terrible scheme we run and nothing to do with the offensive talent.
Brady’s washed up? The guy is 42! Hate him or like him the guy has a pretty impressive track record. Jets’ QB avg span as starter on last 2 decades was what 1.5/2 years? Back to original title thread, I think the key and the starting point is to draft key players and have a freaking good draft for once! And to grab couple of extra picks.
Not a chance. Comparing dealing D Thomas trade to a future franchise QB trade isn’t even the same league. How soon you forget Tua was expected to go #1 pre injury and it’s not career threatening
Its not. But its not his first injury and I have a hard tome believing its his last. I thinks he's ok. Burrows is better and has no injury history. Trevor Lawrence is betyer and has not injury history. Its not that it is career threatening itself its that its multiple injuries. And he could be big... or he could fail bad. But for multiple big picks like 2 1st and a 2nd or more IDK who we are trading so they can get him, thats 2 oline or wr or whatever to help Sam, whom we traded big for.
Also not a FFQB yet. He's a prospect. He has as much or more chance to fail as the WR or OL we get. And in Miami I'm gonna lean to more because that whole team needs a rebuild
No doubt but since that's not going to happen until after 2020 at the earliest we have to move on to our next most pressing need.
We could do a lot worse than to draft the next Julio Jones without having to trade up. Julio Jones has gotten his team to more Superbowls that I have seen the Jets attend in my lifetime.
Youre welcome to your opinion but Tua was a clear fire #1 pick by many scouts before his injury. Go back and look it up and youll see countless articles. (tank for Tua ring a bell). Before Burrows had a break out year this year, no one was even talking about him being a #1 pick. People had Lawrence ahead of Burrows by a wide margin. Tua has had some back like injuries though and im not ready to label him injury prone ala Quincy Enunwa and others we have seen come through here that literally cant make it through a full season within missing games. All players will get nagging injuries and play through. You talk about this guy like he is made of glass and has missed multiple college seasons and he hasnt at all. He even made 22 straight starts at one point. Back to the main point, there is no way in hell this team lets the Dolphins of all teams trade with them to pick a QB that they will be playing against for years to come. Its not a realistic scenario. Out of the division, definitely possible but no way for the Dolphins.
