I go through every position group and share what I think the Jets will do. Feel free to let me know what you agree/disagree with
Thanks Penny ..good Post The only position group I disagreed with was at RB where I think Perine is gone and Josh Adams keeps beasting for us ..a lot left in his tank that you don't want another team to acquire.
QUARTERBACKS Zach Wilson Mike White - Johnson likely can be picked up at anytime, White is surely the #2. RUNNING BACKS Tevin Coleman Ty Johnson Michael Carter LaMichael Perine - Adams the guy who gets pushed out of the room but I really like how he runs the ball. Yet there's something the brass thinks he's expendable and this is two coaching staffs, or 3 including the other team he played for. Coleman the likely starter, but this is strictly a RB carousel. I could see Ty or Carter running away with this. WIDE RECEIVERS Corey Davis Keelan Cole Jamison Crowder Elijah Moore Denzel Mims Vyncent Smith - I believe Smith makes it over Berrios...Smith has the deep speed and was one of the better WR's in camp IMO. I like this group in addition to Cager/Jeff Smith. Berrios likely makes it to another team though. TIGHT ENDS Tyler Kroft Trevon Wesco Chris Herndon Kenny Yeboah - Kroft easily the best TE here. Wesco will play FB/TE. Herndon may make it based upon there being not much else out there, just underwhelming for sure. Yeboah likely made the roster with a strong game last night TACKLES Mekhi Becton Morgan Moses George Fant - McDermott injury hurt the depth here, Edoga may come back and be another tackle option and replace one of the guards on the roster. IOL C- Connor McGovern Corey Levin James Murray G- Greg Van Rotten Alijah Vera Tucker Dan Feeney - Feeney stinks, hope AVT can stay healthy. Think I'd rather see Murray/Levin at guard over Feeney at this point. EDGE John Franklin Myers Bryce Huff Ronald Blair Hamilcar Rashed - Rumors of the Jets bringing in a pass rusher. I'd say they will, another THIN spot due to injuries. Kyle Phillips maybe apart of the edge. INTERIOR DL Quinnen Williams Sheldon Rankins Folo Fatukasi Nathan Shepard Johnathan Marshall - Strength of the team, these guys SHOULD make things easy on these young LB's. LINEBACKERS CJ Mosley Hamsah Nasirildeen Jamien Sherwood Blake Cashman Noah Dawkins - LB is THIN. Totally expect JD to bring in some LB help. CORNERBACKS Bryce Hall Bless Austin Brandin Echols Javelin Guidry Justin Hardee Michael Carter II Jason Pinnock - Tons of youth... I expect 2 of the kids to hit the PS. SAFETIES Marcus MAye Lamarcus Joyner Sharrod Neasman JT Hassell - Veteran group, Don't care for the backups and Davis has missed a ton of camp so it may take til at least Week 4 until you potentially see him join this safety group. SPECIAL TEAMS Matt Ammendolla Braden Mann Thomas Hennessy PRACTICE SQUAD WR Lawrence Cager RB Josh Adams* QB James Morgan WR Jeff Smith CB Elijah Campbell CB Isaiah Dunn INJURIES T/G Conor McDermott- Easily the best backup the Jets had on the interior. T Chuma Edoga- May gain a spot after he gets up to speed. Tackle is thin. DE Jabari Zuniga- Needs to get healthy but missed a ton of camp. Still an EDGE player where there's not much on the current roster. Kyle Phillips- Ditto ^ S Ashtyn Davis- Missed a ton of camp LB Jerrad Davis IR DE Carl Lawson CB Zane Lewis G Cameron Clark INF Vinny Curry
Nick Mullens was cut by the Eagals today after they acquired Minshew. I could see him as the backup QB considering his familiarity with the offense and CS.
No problem. the nflpa should fight to keep it at 16 permanently with the addition of regular season games . They should also get the game day roster expanded to 53 . Instead of worrying about practicing less they should be fighting for more members getting more opportunities.
https://nypost.com/2021/08/28/projecting-the-jets-53-man-roster-for-2021-22-season/ Projecting the Jets’ 53-man roster By Brian Costello August 28, 2021 Quarterback (2) Zach Wilson, Mike White Early in training camp, I thought James Morgan would be on the team, too, but after watching him struggle in camp and in preseason games, I think the Jets will just go with Wilson and White. Douglas likely will try to sneak Morgan onto the practice squad by not making him one of his initial cuts, but doing it closer to the Week 1 game. Running Backs (4) Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson, Michael Carter, La’Mical Perine This is an easy one. Josh Adams did not get any carries at Green Bay, a bad sign for his prospects of making the team. The only complicating factor is Perine is now dealing with a foot injury. Wide Receivers (6) Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, Jamison Crowder, Denzel Mims, Keelan Cole, Braxton Berrios This is an interesting position. The first three are no-brainers. Mims clearly is still trying to win the coaches’ trust and now has been sidelined with a hip injury. Still, he is too talented for the Jets to give up on. Berrios gets the nod as the sixth receiver in part because of his punt return ability, but also because he had a strong camp. D.J. Montgomery, Jeff Smith and Vyncint Smith all had good moments in camp, but will get caught by the numbers game. Tight Ends (4) Tyler Kroft, Chris Herndon, Ryan Griffin, Trevon Wesco Wesco is now more of a fullback than a tight end, but we’ll still list him here. This group is not great, but Kroft had a good game at Green Bay. Griffin is recovering from a hamstring injury. Offensive Line (8) Mekhi Becton, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Connor McGovern, Greg Van Roten, Morgan Moses, George Fant, Dan Feeney, Jimmy Murray It is still a toss-up as to who will start at right tackle, Moses or Fant. The loser of that competition will be the backup swing tackle. Feeney has struggled while filling in for an injured Vera-Tucker, but the Jets gave him $3 million guaranteed, so he’s not going anywhere. Defensive Line (8) Quinnen Williams, Sheldon Rankins, John Franklin-Myers, Bryce Huff, Folorunso Fatukasi, Nathan Shepherd, Ronald Blair, Hamilcar Rashed This unit took a hit last week with the loss of Carl Lawson for the season. Lawson moving to IR opened up a roster spot for Rashed, an undrafted free agent. Blair has been injured throughout camp, making his status to start the season a question mark. Linebackers (5) C.J. Mosley, Jamien Sherwood, Noah Dawkins, Hamsah Nasirildeen, Blake Cashman The loss of Jarrad Davis for two months to an ankle injury makes a thin group even thinner. The Jets may be counting on two rookies to play a lot. Dawkins has emerged as a potential starter over the past week. Douglas may be looking to add to this group from the waiver wire. Cornerbacks (8) Bless Austin, Bryce Hall, Michael Carter II, Javein Guidry, Isaiah Dunn, Brandin Echols, Justin Hardee, Jason Pinnock Another unit that is frighteningly young. Hardee is on here for his special teams play. This is another group that might have some additions after cutdown day. Safeties (4) Marcus Maye, Lamarcus Joyner, Sharrod Neasman, J.T. Hassell Ashtyn Davis is still coming back from a foot injury and likely will stay on the PUP list to start the season, meaning he won’t be on the active roster until midseason. Neasman has gotten a lot of playing time with Joyner sidelined over the last two weeks. Specialists (3) Matt Ammendola, Braden Mann, Thomas Hennessy Another year, another kicker. Ammendola had a strong training camp and beat out Chris Naggar and Sam Ficken. Douglas may be looking at kickers on the waiver wire, but Ammendola has shown enough to get the Week 1 nod.
My projection is as follows: QB (3): Zach Wilson, Josh Johnson, & James Morgan RB (4): Coleman, Carter, Johnson, Perine (I would keep Adams over Perine and try to put Perine on the PS) WR (6): Davis, Crowder, Cole, Moore, Mims, Berrios TE (4): Kroft, Wesco, Herndon, Yeboah OL (8): Becton, AVT, McGovern, GVR, Moses, Fant, Levin, Feeney (I hope the Jets surprise and cut Feeney even though he is guaranteed $3 million, and replace him with Moore or Murray) Offense: 25 DL (8): Q, Rankins, Fatukasi, Shepherd, JFM, Huff, Blair, Rashed (or a camp cut) LB (5): Mosely, Sherwood, Nasirildeen, Dawkins, & camp cut CB (8): Hall, Austin, Guidry, Carter II, Echols, Hardee, Pinnock, Dunn S (4): Maye, Joyner, Neasman, Hassell Defense: 25 STs: Mann, Ammendola, Hennessy Injured players that will return during season: A. Davis, J. Davis, McDermott PS: Marshall (DT), White (QB), J. Smith (WR), V. Smith (WR), ???
Great post. It’s beyond time the league expand rosters. It may limit top end salaries a touch, but will also bring on more paying union members as more guys make teams.

I never understood why game day rosters would be less than full roster. Maybe saving hotel/travel costs from back in the day??? Anyone know?
found an article that may help explain… https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ho...oes-the-nfl-have-inactive-players-on-game-day
