I'm sure that I am not the only one watching the replays, the past game included, when Mangold's body flexes in some crazy direction its not meant to go in, and you figure that he's out for not only the game but the rest of the season. The next play or two, he's back in. The sideways bend in his knee this weekend was ridiculous, and my money says that if he wasn't wearing a knee brace, as he did during his college career, we would have lost him for the remainder of the playoffs. You could tell that he was babying the knee for a few plays following, but he was definitely doing what was needed for the team. The hip thing in one of the prior games is another example. I guess we chalk it up to alot of luck, with a sprinkling of body composition and pity from the gods above...
Yeah, on the field goal I thought for sure his leg collapsed, shattered, and broken under at least 700lbs of Oakland weight.
I'm sure the braces helped the knee, but it is pretty amazing how some guys have the bodies that can just take more of a beating than others. Wait, I'm not sure if that came out the way I expected..... hmy:
When it comes to pain tolerance, Nick Mangold is the anti-John Abraham. Ironic, since they were essentially traded for each other and a large part of the Jets not wanting to sign Abe to big money was his seeming inability to play through injury in the big games.
 Abrahams 2006 numbers, 8 games, 15 tackles, 4 sacks; the falcons must be happy with their 6 year, 45 million dollar man.... hmy:
It is not just the bending of the knee on that play, but he practically did a split. I cringed watching it. Mangold almost got turned into Girlgold. If that happened to Abraham, he would have been out at least 8 games, in playoffs or not.
Mangold is having an impressive season considering he's a rook. Now, all we need is a mauling Guard (FA or draft) and better run blocking from the rooks and I think we're set at line. Was surprised to see Adrian Jones get into the game. i actually thought they might throw to him so close to the goalline. (wasn't he a converted TE).
You're not being fair to Abe... He has his next contract 7 years from now to worry about!!! The man need to consider his future!!!
You wish. But Mangold is quickly becoming a favorite among the Jets faithful. Plays with heart and doesn't let injury take him out of it. He's a hard worker, and I like that.
I wore mine to the Raider game so it has now become my lucky jersey. It will not be washed this week (some nasty tailgate stains on it, yuck), and will be worn again proudly this Sunday. What can I say, I'm a superstitious bastard..
Hehe I was actually going to buy one this year but couldn't find it in footlocker etc. I'm sure they will be in stock next year. As far as Mangold goes he's been great and very durable. It's great that we have a nice young line that has age on its side in the two most important positions (C and LT)
I'm very proud of this guy. I mean, we lost freaking Kevin Mawae. He was our brick. I think it was overlooked how this rookie just came in and dominated just the same. So far he's shaping out to be a better pick than Ferguson.
