I get the asset management angle, but frankly I'd drop or trade Davis along with Mims, Cole and Smith, and look to add a couple of studs in FA and the draft. Keeping both Crowder and Berrios to go with that new, better talent makes sense to me. Am I missing something?
Davis can’t be moved because of his huge dead cap number. And as much of a schmuck as he was on the field this year, he still offers more upside than Crowder does. Crowder is ok. But he’s one of those players that ends up on the Jets and is the best of a bad position group so we overrate them a lot.
Crowder is 29 and will be on the decline soon. Berrios is playing well at what will probably be his ceiling or close to it. I'll choose Berrios to be the 4th WR moving forward for the next two years. This should leave #1 - (New) think everyone is in agreement here via draft/FA/Trade. #2 - Corey Davis #3 - Moore - only at three because I think he can play all three WR spots and want him on the field at almost every opportunity. 4# Berrios - ST play, trick play/replacement for Moore in some situations. #5 - next cheap depth with upside #6 some dude like V.smith. #657 - Denzel Mims Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Berrios is a guy named on many teams websites as a guy they want for their teams. I feel he is going to get expensive quick
i'm guessing as of now probably 4 years for 24 mil. he'll be 30 when it ends so we'll have him locked in on his prime years and as a WR3/4 and PR/KR I think it's fair but we have to expect him to play a lot. wouldn't suprise me if he's our WR3 next year starting in the slot with moore and davis outside. I think jeff smith has earned a roster spot too. that leaves 2-3 spots for WRs in the offseason
To be honest, CC, I have no idea what the cap implications are. I don’t really read too much into what happens with contracts via trade because there’s no way anyone makes a move for him so it’s irrelevant.
In this lineup we lost Cole and Crowder and replaced them with #1 guy, perhaps someone we will get in the draft. We still need another solid veteran. Or if we don't go WR with one of the top picks, we will need a good FA signing or a trade. Basically either a #1 type FA, like Robinson, plus a lower draft pick or a high draft pick plus a Cole type veteran, who doesn't drop the ball. Could even be Crowder, but ideally someone with a bit more size and less injuries.
Robinson ain’t coming here man. I imagine he’s going to be in ring chasing mode as a lot of receivers start to do at his age, on their third contract. He’s been subtly unhappy with the trash throwing him the ball and has had the unfortunate situation of having Bortles, Trubisky and the mosh pit of Dalton/Foles/Fields throwing him the rock this year. He’s going to a team with a good QB this time around.
Corey Davis slander is absurd - he had a disappointing year but he’s not some slouch. He’s totally fine as long as not the primary option like he was early in the season. If Moore develops and they draft or sign another really good WR, Davis will be fine.
We would get a CAP hit for sign in bonus that was already paid, which is about a mil, nothing more than that. Joe Flacco for instance had a sign in bonus of 2.5 mil, and that number stayed on Philly's CAP. We only were on the hook for his prorated base salary, and basically ended up with only around half a mil cap hit.
Yeah, it looks more likely like we will draft a WR with our top 40 pick and then get a FA or keep Cole/Crowder. Though who knows - Robinson had a down year, if money is there, he will bite. Mike Williams would be a nice option too. I am just not sure JD will spend again on WR given what we paid Davis and a relatively deep WR draft class.
Man get a BIG BOY for Wilson to throw to, Mike Williams would be nice…a capable TE who can do the same thing would be nice. Having Berrios and Moore are good and all, but there’s no big bodied guy that can just go get it on this roster
Actually, targets have been 70 for Crowder to 65 for Berrios; the big difference is in snap count at 531 for Crowder to 390 for Berrios. Special teams plays are not included in those numbers.
Well that would work if we all hadn't watched Stone Hands Davis drop catch after catch after catch, if he had caught a few of them Wilson may not have had at least two bounce of Ints and a bit more confidence lol
I think once Crowder went down to 5m he checked out mentally but Cole has been a huge disappointment, he made some great catches early on but then as you say has got worse as the season progressed maybe he didn't like being so underused? He won't be back and neither will Crowder.
Objectively speaking he's truly risen up the ranks. Since being stolen from the patsies his role has expanded each and every season. I guess I figured he'd get better but honestly looking at it now, you see he's one of the most reliable, hard working performers this team has. The pro bowl honors seem to the first of many. We must put this is perspective though, he'll always be a ST player that plays a minor role on offense. So with that said, I can find no earthly reason why he shouldn't be resigned. He's as deserving as anyone has ever been. For me now, it should be just finding the right salary and years. Without really knowing what the going rate for a similar player is, I would think something in the range of 5 to 7 million per season for about 5 or 6 seasons would be most beneficial for the Jets and Berrios. I look forward to this getting done....
