Great point I agree 100%. Been saying that for the longest. The Jets drafted defensive linemen in the first round it seemed every year and still couldn't get any pressure on the QB or stop the run. A wide receiver like Chase could help Zach a lot. Everyone is beating up on Mims but our big wide receiver free agent signing stunk. Dropped a bunch of passes. I Hope Douglas has a better game plan this offseason. Zach development is paramount and he needs some weapons
Agree with a lot of what you're saying but I wouldn't waste a pick on a QB they need to get some everyday players in this draft. They have White and Flacco to man that position should Zach be injured. They can get a young QB next year or on cut day if need be. This draft should be about drafting receivers' WR/TE types, running backs, and offensive linemen. I wouldn't take any defense till after the 4th round as Saleh defense scheme sucks and anyone we take will just be pointless. Concentrate on building up the offense..
I don’t think they should draft a QB in any round because they are never gonna play the guy or give him a fair shake, so it would be a wasted pick
JD did it with Morgan, it’s a developmental QB, it has been done before. Dak Prescott was drafted in the 4th round and Cowboys had Romo and a veteran backup. Kirk Cousins was drafted in the 3rd even after Washington drafted RG3. Flacco is washed up and White has had plenty of chances to establish himself in the NFL and has not, Jets don’t need to hold on to them forever. I’m sure JD is going to get starters from first four picks, anything from 3rd round on is gravy.
Are you convinced of this already? They need help with pass rush and LB spots. Even if his scheme sucks, Jets can’t simply leave a good DE or LB on the board if they fall to them.
What determines a good DE or LB? The Jets have drafted at the top of the draft for decades and they have had sprinkles of success in the draft especially defensive lineman. I'm just saying it's time to change the philosophy. How many times have the Jets gotten the lead only to lose the game cause they could not stop a 2 minute offense? The league is geared to score let's get on board with that trend.
A defensive end like Bosa that can make a play when it’s needed determines what a good DE is. What about a LB that can stuff the run in the hole at the LOS instead of 8 yards down field? I believe we should build up the team in all three phases. Jets have 4 picks early in the draft, they can get 2 players on each side of the ball to help this team prepare for this football season.
If they waste one of their top 40 picks on a fucking developmental QB Joe Douglas should be fired on the spot.
I don't think Corey Davis will be as bad as he was this year, especially if surrounded with more weapons. He might have felt the pressure of being the "#1" guy. I'd be very happy going into next season with Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, rookie WR, Braxton Berrios, and a depth veteran piece like a Sammy Watkins or Cedrick Wilson at WR. Add a veteran TE and pair them with Trey McBride or Jeremy Ruckert and the Jets are cooking!
The Bengals just won their first road playoff game ever! Their OL couldn’t block anything yet they still won?! Why?? Because they have elite playmakers!!! Chase got doubled it led to plays to the TE or Higgins. Chase in single coverage he makes a play. The notion of using high picks on positions that are not as impactful as others is truly relevant in todays NFL. Wilson needs a stud WR to be his go to guy and then mix in Moore and Berrios like they do with Higgins and Boyd. Then a safety valve TE like Ertz or Shultz that can offer some plays in the middle of the field.
Funny but Jet fans and media have never had the patience for a rebuild. Now they want to do it right, like the Bengals? Next year is year 2 of the rebuild. Who will we want to fire first?
The Bengals won yesterday because of their defense. Their offense didn't take over the game. In fact they were the ones primed to lose on a last second FG before their defense stepped up and made a play.
Yes, how often has a Jets coach gotten better? Bowles? Gase? Herm? Saleh is exactly like Bowles zero adjustments in the game.
Fair enough, I’m actually not a fan of this CS and I believe a quality veteran CS would turn this team around much faster with a solid draft this year. However I know Jets are stuck with them so there is no sense in complaining about them anymore.
Sorry, I'm not that kind of dude that just sit back and thinks puppies and rainbows with my sports team. Nothing wrong with calling them out but Saleh should be in the hot seat as he and his staff underperformed last year. They will have to show something this year and I mean significant progress.
I’m not puppies and rainbows either but I’m not invested anymore. I watch the games come on the forum and that’s it. I don’t care what the Jets do during the off-season anymore because the product on the field has been so bad.
Only losing organizations change out their GM and coaching staff every 2-3 years. You put "everyone" on the hot seat which leads to dumb decisions being made.
I think we're mixing up cause and effect here. Losing organizations change their coaches and GM's frequently because they're very bad at picking good coaches and GM's. They aren't bad because they switch often, they switch often because they're bad. Saleh is a bad coach. At the very least he's not a good coach. Good coaches turn teams around very quickly, look at McVay.
