Join the club…I’ve been watching since the 70s…and for the most part, it’s been a lot of this

A nice spurt in the 80s with the Sack Exchange, then a nice almost there with Parcells in the late 90s, then Rex in the 2010’s

    That’s about it

At current market Fields is worth maybe a 6th round pick. Are we really looking to go the season without a QB for a 6th round pick?

disagree on that assessment. Kenny Pickett, a lesser QB, went for a 5th just a couple weeks ago

Pickett and Fields are about the same level of QB all things considered. Fields has the higher upside but I dont think teams care that much when it comes to backup QBs and thats what both of them are. Big difference is Pickett costs peanuts and is a FA after this year, Fields will cost money this year and next year. No one is trading for a bad backup QB that you can't even get rid of without eating money.

Browning is better than Fields though. They'd have to downgrade at QB, give up picks and add money to their books in 2026.

At this point Fields does not have more upside than Pickett. Neither really have any upside at all, but what we saw these first 2 games is exactly what Fields has been his entire career. Pickett spent last season on the bench in PHI and will do the same again this year. He becomes a more valuable prospect simply through the notion that sitting and learning “might” have helped him. We now have evidence that Fields didn’t learn anything on the bench last year, so you know what you’re getting.

They just signed Mike White and Sean Clifford. There was never a world in which they traded for Fields but there definitely isn't now.

Last time the Bengals needed Browning to start for a long stretch they went 4-3 with no OL and a terrible D, he threw for almost 2K yards on 70% completion with 15 TD and 9 TO. That's far from bad when you're talking about a backup QB.

they had a Super Bowl caliber roster 2 years ago when Browning played. Literally, it was the reigning AFC champions. Yeah he went 4-3 with that team, Fields went 4-2 with far less talented roster just last season.

If they thought Browning was as good as you said he was, they would not have signed Mike F’ing White at all.

They want to win though and I don’t blame them, they are probably looking in many directions for an upgrade

Why wouldn’t they sign White? They need a backup to Browning.

The Bengals have had a terrible OL since they drafted Burrow. And the defense in that AFC title year was bottom third by all metrics. And they signed Mike White because they need a body behind Browning. I don't think either of us feel like talking about Jake Browning anymore though. He's a better option than Fields for a myriad of reasons and it's one of the many reasons why they won't trade for Fields.

I don't think he's that good. I think he's better than Fields and a FAR better option for the Bengals than trading for Fields.

Can’t say I understand this conversation at all. The Bengals were NEVER trading for Fields…why the fuck would they? Mike White is better. Don’t know much about Browning but whether he’s better than Fields or not, they are probably close…Fields is no upgrade to Browning.

The only issue is that their OL is not great and a guy like Mike White might get killed behind that line, whereas a guy like Fields can run around much better.

But (a) we were never going to trade him, and (b) I can only imagine that if we made that call, we’d get a bunch of laughter on the other side of that phone.

And no, I don’t think Fields is better than Pickett either…I’d say they are probably close…backup caliber QBs…Fields of course is way more mobile.

But we’ve seen what Fields is. 3-11 for a handful of yards. That’s not just bad. That’s scrub level. Yes he had a good game week 1 but even then he wasn’t the most accurate in his ball placement and he looks much better because he ran for 2 TDs…if you look at the passing game yes he had a great completion rate of over 70% which I love, but only 211 yards…so most of it was short quick easy passes. That works when you can run the ball.

But when you can’t, like against the Bills, then it’s not nearly enough especially when you are down and need to come back. This team is not built for that.

So anyway, Fields may be worth a 5th or something like that, but no way we are doing that and no way the Bengals are doing that
