AG is in his second game. There isn’t a coach in history that had a clue what they were doing by game 2. Every great coach would tell you the same. That said, the problem is Woody keeps hiring these first timers while the franchise has now degenerated to a rudderless ship with no identity. Not even considering the wild notion of us becoming a super bowl team, but what we have desperately needed is leadership that has proven to have had some success leading an NFL team. If for no other reason just to bring credibility to the franchise. But alas, Woody loves his first timers….

Woody has been burned, fried, charred, incinerated, and cremated by hiring 1st timers and he isn’t even once shy. He’s literally the walking definition of insanity. It’s like every time it all goes to hell Woody thinks “hey, I know exactly what will fix this, a former DC turned first time HC! And even better, let’s get a first time OC to partner up with him! Why didn’t I think of this last time!”

    100%

    So fucking sad but true

Dude has literally NO football knowledge and keeps doing the same fucking shit over and over. And don’t forget hiring rookie GM to pair with these rookie DCs

Pretty sure Rex won his first two games and took the Jets deep into the playoffs in both of his first two years.

Cimini reporting this morning that AG declined to answer whether Fields could lose his QB1 role while injured.

If that is really where we are right now then this AG regime run is going to get even uglier a lot quicker then I thought it would.

Why? It would seem to me that the player demonstrating he's most suited to help the team win is always the one who should be playing.

It's year 1 and game 3 in on your supposed "new era of jets football" regime. You brought in and committed to 26yo Justin Fields in the offseason. A guy who offers a substantially better developmental chance of giving us a potential upside answer at QB going forward then Tyrod freaking Taylor. In a season you predictably went into, from any reality acknowledging viewpoint, being a bottom 5 projected football team.

Anything short of "Justin is our guy" right now is just more same ol same Jets imo. It's way too early for that type of desperation hint for immediate wins stuff to be popping up.

I said it before we signed Justin Fields, I said it after, and I'll say it now. If this regime can't develop and/or manufacture league average'ish QB play out of Justin Fields then they all need to go, once again, *before* we even consider the attempt to waste another 1st round pick on QB. End the same circle cycle of fail already.

That’s an interesting point of view…I hadn’t thought of it that way before regarding Fields. My opinion on Fields coming out of Ohio State was not good…I saw how inaccurate he was, and he doesn’t see the field, he doesn’t process quickly enough, and he’s just not a very good QB. His only real upside is his ability to create with his legs. That’s good but it’s not enough to make a good QB. I thought it then, and I haven’t seen anything out of him to make me change my mind. I just don’t think he’s very good and I don’t think he will ever become the long term solution at QB. Two different teams, the Bears (who, like the Jets, have never had a clue on how to develop a QB) and the Steelers (who are a much better run organization top to bottom than we are) both threw him to the curb. They did not see any potential worth trying to develop.

So how much is on the player and how much is on the coaches?

I just think if you’re going to use development of Fields as a measure of how to evaluate our coaches, that may just be an automatic fail then. I don’t think Andy Reid could get much more out of Fields honestly…the dude just isn’t an NFL caliber QB.
